As we get ready to welcome the new season, we also welcome some autumnal hazards for our furry friends. But, could you spot a poisonous plant before them? 👀

During this time, when the summer blooms turn to autumn leaves, many plants and trees start to produce berries and nuts, which can be both tempting and toxic for pets.

It’s important to be able to recognise those hidden toxic plants so you and your pet can keep away from them ⚠️

Here’s a handy list from our vets, to help you spot some of the most common ones to look out for!

What is this?
This is a herbal supplement for Arthritis. Our boy has been limping on and off for a while now. I give him arnica for pain and this supplement I made which has burdock, ginger and devil claws.
He is no longer limping back to normal.
Herbs have many different uses and that's what is great, we have many different options for every health issue.

Please be careful when out & about with your dogs this summer

"Death follows minutes to hours after exposure to a small amount of this toxin." As the weather gets hotter, ponds can start to have "algae blooms." The water itself can look like pea soup, or like green paint is spread on the surface of the water. Some of these blooms are cyanobacteria, which can produce potent toxins. Many dogs are exposed when they wade in the water and either drink the water directly, or lick it off themselves when they come out. There is no antidote; treatment is supportive and many dogs don't survive. If your dog gets into a pond like this, bathe him immediately. If he has any symptoms, bring him right in to a veterinarian. (Many ponds that look like this are not dangerous, but it is not possible to tell which ones are toxic and which ones aren't except by having the water tested; therefore, it is safest to keep your pets out.)

7 simple steps to keep your pet safe as the temperature rises...
• Make sure pets always have plenty of fresh water to drink
• Provide adequate ventilation at all times
• Avoid exercising dogs in the heat of the day: especially older pets, brachycephalic breeds or dogs that you know have heart or lung problems
• Provide shade from the sun in the hottest part of the day
• Watch out for early signs of heatstroke, such as heavy panting, restlessness and lack of coordination
• Never leave dogs in vehicles: "Not long" is too long
• Contact a vet immediately if your animal does not respond to efforts to cool it down.
