Good morning everyone, here is some news that we have suspected would come in to force for a little while.
Please take time to read it, as it will affect all poultry keepers.
In short, all poultry keepers, regardless of size of flock, must register their flock with DEFRA before 1st October 2024 (1st September 2024 in Scotland).

I’m really sorry everyone, I’ve just heard from our supplier that the point of lay hens won’t be coming to us on Monday, and we will have to wait until the week of February 12th 😞
But, on the plus side, we should be getting 5 different types in that delivery!! 😀

As this year comes to an end, we would like to say thank you to all of our wonderful customers.
We have managed to sell all of our birds just before Christmas, and we are expecting the first of the hybrid hens in February (fingers crossed!).

I’m the mean time, we hope that you all have a Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing you soon.

We have 30 RIR X LS hybrids chicks for sale. These girls will be great egg layers when they grow up. They were hatched on 4th October, they are £7.50 each and they are probably the last hybrid chicks we will have this year.

We have some truly beautiful Salmon Faverolles available from Tuesday 6th. These wonderful large fowl hens are one of only a few breeds that have 5 toes instead of 4. Their kind nature makes them a real favourite at the farm.

I’m sorry to say, we have some bad news.
Unfortunately the delivery of hybrid hens that we were expecting today, won’t be coming. This is a situation that is completely out of our control and we are as disappointed as you are.
We have been told that the delivery should be with us late next week.
I’m really sorry about this, but we are doing what we can to resolve it.

Here is the latest update from DEFRA.

Mandatory housing measures for all poultry and captive birds are to be introduced to all areas of England from 00:01 on Monday 7 November, following a decision by the United Kingdom’s Chief Veterinary Officer.

The housing measures legally require all bird keepers to keep their birds indoors and to follow stringent biosecurity measures to help protect their flocks from the disease, regardless of type or size.

This will extend the mandatory housing measures already in force in the hot spot area of Suffolk, Norfolk and parts of Essex to the whole of England, following an increase in the national risk of bird flu in wild birds to very high.

There were 82 cases of bird flu in October 2022 making this the worst year so far. Please follow all the measures on the DEFRA website to ensure the safety of your birds.
