Some important advice 🦔♥️

🙏 PLEASE!... If you see a hedgehog like this no matter what time of day, DONT IGNORE IT.
**PICK IT UP!
**BRING IT INDOORS!
**PLACE IN A HIGH SIDED BOX WITH AN OLD TOWEL TO HIDE UNDER IN A QUIET WARM ROOM!
**OFFER A SHALLOW DISH OF WATER ONLY-NO FOOD!
**CONTACT YOUR LOCAL RESCUE!
With temperatures on the rise, hedgehogs are starting to wake up from hibernation but it can take 48hrs to fully reboot so you may just see a hedgehog lying around like this one.
Please don't walk by...
Please save a life.

ORPHAN SEASON.
Found a baby animal in need of help?🐇🦡🦊🐥🐣

When it comes to saving the life of an orphaned animal a wildlife rescue depends, primarily, in the finder providing the first most important stage in critical care – WARMTH. The most common cause of death in an orphan is hypothermia; killing the animal faster than dehydration, or the lack of food. Hatchling birds, and newborn mammals, are unable to regulate their own body temperatures and are therefore dependant on their mother's body heat to keep them warm. Once a tiny orphan becomes hypothermic it's very often too late. Therefore, before contacting a wildlife rescue, be sure to provide the orphan with supportive warmth. A towel or soft fleece covering, just on its own, will not be sufficient in keeping the animal warm; an additional heat source needs to be supplied, either in the form of a wrapped hot water bottle, or a sock filled with uncooked rice and microwaved for a minute. A gentle warmth is what is required, so it's very important to keep checking that the heat source isn't becoming too hot.

To ensure your orphan stands the very best chance of survival; please, ALWAYS, take the animal directly to a wildlife rescue and, NEVER, attempt to rear it yourself. It is also very important to NOT give either fluids, or food to the orphan.

🐇 With Spring fast approaching we are anticipating the arrival of lots of baby animals, so we wanted to share some advice on leverets (baby hares). Unfortunately, we admit leverets every year who have been picked up by well-meaning people who believe they've been abandoned.

Leverets are born fully furred with their eyes open, and mother hares will leave their young hidden in long grass for the majority of the day, only returning to feed them a couple times. If you come across any leverets on their own, please don't pick them up unless they are in immediate danger! It's unlikely they've been abandoned and by picking them up you could be taking them away from their mother.

If you find a leveret and you're concerned it may be injured or orphaned, please don't touch, and call us or your nearest wildlife rescue BEFORE interfering. Wild animals do so much better when reared by their own kind. Thank you ❤
