HOGLET 🥰
Following on from the previous post, we couldn’t not share this video of him tucking into some yummy food.. he’s just too cute! 😍
Pregnancy scan 🌸💗
We couldn’t resist sharing with you this short clip from a recent pregnancy scan! Can you see him wiggling and then lifting his little paw?! 🥰
Reunion 💗
😍🐾💗Time for a happy story! 💗🐾😍
This little monkey was handed in to us earlier today after he was found running around some fields.
Luckily he was microchipped and we had seen his story shared on social media, so we were able to contact the owner and give them the good news!
It turns out this lovely boy had been stolen when the owners house was burgled by people with crow bars… which is horrific! Despite this, he didn’t seem at all phased by his adventure, and was happily making himself at home at Icknield, giving lots of cuddles and kisses, which was beautiful to see!
We are So so happy that this story has a happy ending for this gorgeous pupper and his family!
Please use this as a reminder as to why microchips are extremely important (and a legal requirement), as it means we can reunite you with your fur babies💗
(Owner kindly gave us permission to share their reunion😊)
HEDGEHOG CUTIE
How cute is this little guy?! 🦔
We have had lots of hedgehogs bought into us recently!
Hogs are nocturnal and shouldn’t be out in the day time, so If you see one, then it’s most likely in a spot of trouble! Pop on a pair of gardening gloves, pick the hog up and place it in a cardboard box lined with newspaper, and then give the vets or a wildlife rescue a call for some advice!
Just bare in mind, in the summer months females can come out late afternoon in search of nesting materials and extra food, so if they look active & heathy leave them well alone 😊
Although we love hogs here, we are by no means specialists, So will usually refer these sweeties to a rescue centre for rehabilitation. 💗
It's a hard life being cute
Sleepy bunny relaxing before any medications were even given!
Cuteness overload or what? Our little hog is off to a rehabilitation centre to continue to be fed up before release. We think he quite enjoyed himself 😍🦔
BE TOXIN AWARE! Some may find the video clip distressing.
This little dog presented at IVG Harpenden having wandered off over some fields and returning extremely distressed and wobbly. Quickly she deteriorated and began seizuring (fitting). Despite multiple doses of medication for her seizures, they remained uncontrolled. The owner, the vet and the patient were transferred to our Luton surgery where we have the facilities to deal with this kind of serious condition. As a result of the seizures Ruby’s body temperature was dangerously high so she required gentle cooling. Once at our Luton surgery this could be achieved by placing her in a bath and using towels soaked in lukewarm water to cool her down. The video clip shows some subtle tremors and the team’s efforts to cool her down. You can see how confused Ruby is of her surroundings and how distressed she is.
Unfortunately, after this initial intense treatment Ruby was still seizuring and so for her best interests she was placed under anaesthetic.
After a period of about 2 hours, with 1-2-1 care from a vet and numerous nurses, her anaesthetic was reversed to reassess her condition. Her seizuring had stopped but her mental state was very uncertain. It was unclear at this point whether the damage to her brain would be permanent.
Ruby stayed at the practice for just 2 further days before being discharged home. She made continued steady progress and was luckily, a very tough cookie! Ruby now is doing very well at home and you would never know to look at her the ordeal she (and her owner) went through. The situation could very easily have been different if her owner hadn’t acted immediately.
If you ever suspect your dog has had access to, or eaten any sort of toxin please call the surgery immediately. If you know, or have any suspicion of what the toxin is, it is vital that you tell the practice. Also when walking your pets please be vigilant. In Ruby’s case the toxin could have been anything, and we will never know w
