💚Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month 💚

May is Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month, a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our veterinary nursing teams. So today, we're saying a big thank you to all of our incredible Veterinary Nurses and Patient Care Assistants.

Without their hard work, dedication, and expertise, we couldn't run our practice to the excellence care we give for our patients.

To celebrate the start of VNAM, we're featuring a handful of incredible VNs and VCAs who are not just professionals, but also have heartwarming stories to share.

Thank you to everyone in our nursing team ❤

Veterinary Receptionist of the Year 2024! 💙🩵

The British Veterinary Receptionist Association (BVRA) will open nominations for their receptionist of the year award on the 15th of May!
This year the nominations are split into two categories, the ‘Practice Choice Award’ where colleagues can nominate one another and the ‘Client Choice Award’ where clients can nominate members of our team. We will be posting information on our client care team throughout May, June and up until the closing date of the 17th of July.

Our team of committed receptionists support the whole practice in taking calls, booking appointments and procedures, and offering a friendly face and a listening ear to clients and colleagues alike. They clean, reply to e-mails, keep our shop stocked and request and dispense medication. Plus of course, the most important job of all is to provide our four-legged friends with an endless supply of biscuits! 🫶

You can find out more, and vote at: https://www.bvra.co.uk/veterinary-receptionist-of-the-year-award/

Meet … Tabby 🐾

Tabby came in for a health check and 1st vaccination with our vet Chloe.

Aren’t they adorable 😍🐱

There are lots of reasons to get your cat vaccinated, such as:

💉🦠 Protecting them against deadly diseases.
💉🦠 Helping to prevent the spread of certain
diseases among other felines.

Did you know………

Cats are effective breeders and female cats can get pregnant from a very young age!!

The benefits of neutering a female cat can include:

🐾 preventing behaviours associated with being in ‘heat’, which can include calling, spraying, and trying to escape or wandering further than normal🐱

🐾reducing the risk of womb infections
reducing the risk of tumours and certain cancers, for example mammary cancer (which is over 90% less likely if cats are spayed before six months old) 🐱

🐾 helping your cat to stay healthy. Female cats can have up to 18 kittens a year!! and can cause females to lose condition and be more vulnerable to disease 🦠

For more information about neutering please contact us and we can discuss best options for you and your pet 🐾

🩷 If you are part of our Pet Health Club, our plan includes 20% off neutering 🩷

Meet Tuko 🐾🤎

Tuko came in to see our furry friendly vet Chloe for a dental today. Just like our cats and dogs, ferrets also require regular dental care. Thankfully Tuko only required a scale and polish and no teeth were needed to be extracted. 🪥🦷

As you can see from the photos, he was a fan favourite among the team and recovered well from his anaesthetic 🤎

Ferrets have fantastic personalities and make great pets but they do require a lot of care. 🤎

Meet Georgie - our very own Easter bunny 🐰🩶

Georgie came in with her best friend Rudie as she had been having problems with her teeth. In order to fully assess her teeth, she required a general anaesthetic. Once asleep, vet Chloe, was able to fully assess her mouth where she found an ulcer on her tongue due to some overgrown teeth. Her teeth were burred down to make them nice and smooth 🦷

Once she was awake, she was reunited with Rudie who had missed her whilst she had her procedure. We always recommend for rabbits to bring their friend. Georgie recovered really well and went home that evening. 🩶

This time of year rabbits are often popular as new pets but it is important to remember that rabbits require a lot of love and care as demonstrated by Georgie and Rudie’s wonderful owner.🐰🩶

Meet Zeus🐶🐾

Zeus came in at the end start of last week feeling very poorly. His owner knew something wasn’t quite right. Based on his clinical signs, our vet Chloe, was concerned about the possibility of him eating something he shouldn’t have.

He was promptly sent to a local referral for further investigation where they found that Zeus had indeed eaten something that was causing a blockage. Unfortunately, the surgery would have taken the costs beyond what the family could afford.

This is where the IVC care fund came in. Thanks to this, Chloe was able to use her allowance to get Zeus booked in for an exploratory laparotomy to remove the foreign body. Where we found a piece of toy rope!!

We are pleased to say that since Zeus has made a fantastic recovery and will be able to return to his normal activities soon🐾

Today is 💛National Dogs in Yellow Day💛 created to raise awareness about anxious and reactive dogs.

Some dogs often need space to ensure they feel comfortable and confident whilst out and about, but it can be difficult for others to be aware of this. Dogs in yellow was created so that anyone in the area of a dog wearing yellow (lead, harness, bandana etc) are aware that the dog prefers space and to not be approached unnecessarily. 💛
It is important to remember that these dogs are good dogs even though they prefer not to socialise with other dogs.💛
