This month we decided to launch a new feature to our social media posts…

Today we pay a special tribute and big cheeky shout out to a very well loved Parrot called BERTY 🦜

Berty is 25 years old
He is a Congo African Grey (slightly bigger than a timneh African grey)
He was inherited two years ago, he had hated humans for 10 years since an aunt passed way and he tolerated the uncle. 🤣

He now likes tickles, helps his owners clean his cage with the kitchen towel, he tries to dust!

His best attribute is his ability to make his owner laugh, he will sing “always look on the bright side of life”, do the Dixie horn, the Adams family, shouts “come on then”, calls his owner some colourful language and himself names when he breaks his toys.
🤭😆
He also says “Hello Berty/good boy Berty/oh Berty!” And belly laughes loudly, especially if he hears his owner blowing raspberry’s at the dogs 🤭.

His most annoying trait (everyone has one!) is the shrill scream noise he can make, it goes right through you! 😱

He adored eating or more smashing pumpkins over the Halloween period. 🎃This was a new thing he took to this year.

He is a very active and demanding little man!
It certainly sounds like Lisa Cole has her hands full with this one. 😁

Lisa buys cage accessories, perch covers, toys and large sacks of Johnson & Jeff Parrot, Lean & Fit seed mix to make sure that Berty is kept happy.

PET TRACKERS…what’s your thoughts?

Due to our own personal experience of a Lost Dog (still missing after 2 months) we are more and more entrigued to know about pet owners thoughts on trackers.

There are plenty on the market, suitable for dogs and cats, but do you use one?
Can you reccomend one? There are the simplistic apple air tag’s right uo to the more robust and extreme terrain Garmin ones.

The pictures attached are some examples of those around. Some have subscription fees, some don’t.

The horror stories I have heard of dogs wandering off and the personal painful situation that we are going through at the moment has brought up the topic of trackers enough for us to warrant putting them on all of our dogs! No matter how well trained or biddable they are in nature.

The final picture is a gps tracker image from a woman who lives in the UK, a screen shot of her own app that shows how far her lost dog went in 4hrs! They jumped the fence from their own home (on the day the owners were going on holiday) and just headed off. Thankfully due to the tracker the owner found them and got them home safely. But this kind of experience makes you realise that you don’t want to wait for the moment you think “I wish I had bought one!” It is probably worth doing it now!

In light of our recent experience with a beloved dog going missing…and she’s STILL MISSING. 5 weeks on!

We wanted to offer FREE chip scanning today at the pet shop.

Pop in! Bring your doggy, we can come outside to you if necessary. We will scan and help you identify the chip company that you would need to get intouch with to make sure your details are up to date!
It’s SO SO IMPORTANT!
It’s arguably more important than a dog wearing a collar or harness with a tag… especially if they escape from home and then get lost.

Please pop in to speak to Mairi today and she’ll help.

The unauthorised microchip database PetChip info has stooped to a new low, by sending out emails to the customers they have already scammed, asking for more money to keep the microchip registered!!

If you are unlucky enough to have paid and registered your dog or cat on the PetChip info database, when your pet is lost and then has a registration check to get them home, the microchip will read as unregistered! The pet can be rehomed after seven days, as we have seen already.

It would be helpful if Defra and the veterinary profession could help pet owners and alert them. It would be easy to show customers, at a pet’s first veterinary treatment, how to check and update their own registration. They could reach so many pet owners if the will was there to support the whole microchip system.

Pet insurance companies could warn and advise their customers too!

🐾LUTTERWORTH BRANCH REFURB🐾

😆We are very pleased to announce that our Lutterworth practice reopened a couple of weeks ago

🤩Our Lutterworth practice has undergone a huge transformation that has doubled its size and created a state-of-the-art facility to care for pets and provide enhanced treatment.

📆This project will enable us to offer new services and more appointments to local pets.

🩻The project has increased the number of consult rooms from two to four, as well as delivering a new X-ray room, two operating theatres, dental suite, separate kennels and cattery for our inpatients plus an isolation area for very sick pets.

🐱A cat-only waiting room that’s away from dogs and furnished with shelves so carriers can be placed off the ground will make a trip to the vets less stressful for feline patients, while one consulting room will be exclusively for cats.

🦮Canine patients will benefit from entering into cat-free zones to reduce their stress levels and the cat ward and dog kennels will be designed to give in-patients all the creature comforts they deserve.

🐾We would like to thank all our staff, clients and patients for their understanding and patience during this transformation and we apologise for any inconvenience this refurbishment may have caused.

😁We look forward to welcoming our clients and patients back into our newly refurbished practice!

🐾We are excited to announce that we are having an open day on Saturday the 9th of September between 10am-2pm. This will allow the chance for our clients to be able to visit the practice and look around our brand new facilities- more info on this to come👀

☎️The out-of-hours service for the practice will continue to be provided by Northlands Veterinary Hospital in Kettering.
