🌟🌟🌟🌟 CAPITAL DAUPHIN 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Thank you to Capital Alpaca for your kind donation to our stud service auction🙏

Capital Dauphin is an exciting young Rose Grey male who we are really excited about. He is a part of our first crop of cria from Beck Brow Hit For Six. Dauphin's dam, Houghton Beau is our best producing grey female, who consistently gives her cria very fine, dense, and stylish fleeces. Dauphin has had a highly successful show career so far and is continuing to mature in impeccable style. With his impressive pedigree and fabulous fleece traits, Dauphin has a wealth of strong genetics to pass on to his offspring.

Dauphin's fleece is bright, very dense, very fine, and impressively uniform. Judges have remarked on how similar in micron his white and coloured fibres are. His transition line is very low and his fleece stays fine and stylish into his extremities. Though he has not yet been colour tested, his sire has been tested as EE/aa and his dam is Ee/aa (Grey). So, Dauphin's base colour is either EE/aa or Ee/aa and he has clearly inherited the grey gene from his dam.

Conformationally, Dauphin is very much like his father. While he does not have a large frame, he is well-balanced and well-proportioned. He has good capacity through his chest, and good substance of bone. He has an attractive head that is true to type and has very good fleece coverage. Dauphin was a chunky and healthy cria. We expect his offspring will be the same! Though he is not yet two years old, he is showing signs of being an early worker (like his sire).

Please note that he was sheared less than a month old. The staple length and fleece weight is annualised.

This year was a first for us in that our show season started two months early. It was an interesting experience in that it gave our youngsters the opportunity to attend a smaller, quieter show before the attending the dazzling National Alpaca Show in March. That show was the Northern Show up in Scotland. It was a busy time for us leading up to the show as the weather had been atrocious and I had been away in the USA for a bereavement, so out halter training was going a bit slower than usual. I’m am happy that we made it to the show, even if we had the muddiest juniors there! 😬🫣 I am proud that my “big boys” each earned a sash and every junior placed in the top 4 (apart from one wee boy sucking his bits way up from the cold 🤣). Overall, it was a wonderful weekend away! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Thank you to judge Barbara Hetherington and the Northern Alpaca Show organisers for putting on a great show!!

The last of the autumn short fleece shows that we attended was the 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Welsh Show 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 While others weren’t so lucky, we were able to make it through the storm in order to attend the show. Because of the storm, the show ended up being smaller than intended, but it was encouraging to see an high quality alpacas filling the show despite the lower number of entries. Well done everyone!! A belated thank you to judge Barbara Hetherington and the Welsh Alpaca Show organisers for putting on a great show!! 🤍❤️💚

It was a lovely, relaxed weekend for us with a small show team of 5. We were proud to have all alpacas place within the top 3! Hi Everyone!

We have two big jobs happening on the farm over the next two months which we could use a hand with. Volunteer sessions would last one-hour per task and you are welcome to sign up for one job or to do both if you are interested and have two hours to spare!

1- Halter training our young alpacas. This is teaching them how to walk on a lead (a bit like a horse or a dog) so that they can compete in alpaca shows and are less stressed when being handled later in life.

2- Sorting fleeces in preparation for spinning into yarn. We need extra hands to help pick bits of vegetation out of the fleeces and to get them packed and ready to send off to the mill.

Feel free to get in touch via pm, phone, text or email for further info and to book in a slot. Currently we are only looking for one or two volunteers per day. So while we can take weekend volunteers, weekdays are preferred since there are more days to fill! Volunteers are welcome to book in on an individual basis or as a pair with a friend or family member. For safety reasons, we can only take adults and teens.

Thanks for reading and I hope to speak to you soon! 😊

Happy New Year from Capital Alpaca! 2023 was full of tribulations which kept us busy, but some really great things happened as well. We have had a great holiday break and are ready for what’s to come 🙌 We look forward to a year filled with alpaca love. Roll on 2024! 🥂🎆🥳

Well, after our crazy summer, things are starting to settle down, and I finally have time to catch up on things. I would like to introduce you to our 2023 crop of cria (apart from pets who already left for new homes). It is so nice to see an improvement in our herd year after year. We have had some very smart ladies and gents born this year! 🤩 Like a show, they are pictures from dark to light, with grey (our favourite colour) leading the way!

Well I can’t believe how quickly summer has turned into autumn! We attended our first short-fleece show of the season with an abbreviated show team (due to car trouble we had to take the small car and trailer). Despite our small team, we had a very successful show!
Thank you to Tim Hey for your thorough but swift judging. We are honoured to have our grey male, Capital Dauphin, mentioned as a part of the top 3 alpacas in Tim’s final remarks leading up to announcing the Supreme and Judge’s Choice.
Our little Maeve came along as well and was so excited to compete in another Young Handler class! 😊 We had a great time after looking at horses, sheep, goats, and all sorts! It was great to be a part of the first ever alpaca event at the Stokesley Show. We can’t wait to come back again next year!

Hello friends and followers! You haven’t heard much from us the past two months as we’ve been in the throes of the worst birthing season we’ve ever had. This year we have seen more problems unpacking than we have seen in all previous years combined. It has been a very chaotic, time consuming, traumatic, and expensive season for us. As a result, I have fallen far behind on correspondences and updates. I am working to get caught up on messaging people over the next couple of days.

Our troubles have included three caesareans, of which only one of the dams survived. We were able to get the first cria adopted, but the second was the last birth of the season, so she is a bottle baby (and a milk thief).
We have also seen a maiden with ring womb, a uterine prolapse, and stillborn (and stuck) cria from a 5 week overdue maiden.
Apart from the stillborn cria, we have also lost one cria to internal damage from labour, one to a congenital defect in the larynx, and one PTS after a kick from a female left him with broken bones and a poor surgical prognosis.

Though this season has been quite a trial, it has not been all doom and gloom. We have 26 beautiful cria on farm. It’s nice to see the quality of the cria crop increase from last year. This year the browns have won. At least they aren’t all boys! Our split this year is nearly even with 14 boys and 12 girls. Here’s the breakdown (all Huacaya except the one Suri noted):

10 Brown (6 male - 4 female)
6 Black (4 male - 2 female)
4 Grey (2 male - 2 female)
2 Fawn (both female)
2 White (both male)
1 Roan (aka Modern Grey) (female)
1 Appaloosa Suri 🤷‍♀️ (female)

Here are a couple of pics, but we’ll introduce some on the youngsters properly in coming weeks 😊

Exciting news! We are happy to host our very first event!!

Join us for an educational day aimed at breeders both large and small. The day will consist of presentations focusing on fibre improvement, density, and colour genetics. Additionally, Art of Fibre will be holding a testing clinic at the event, so if you have fleece you want tested feel free to bring it to have it tested there and then.

Get in touch to book your space. We hope to see you on the 25th!

Shearing was just over a month ago and we are finally getting round to getting our fleeces ready for show and processing. We are really pleased to see improvement in our fibre year after year. Here are this year’s fibre test results (note shearing days varied last year so sample lengths range from 9-12 months). Not included here are old alpacas, sold alpacas, some pets, and our little Suri herd.

Some difficult decisions had to be made this morning… An abbreviated show team (so as to fit in one trailer rather than two) is off to the BAS National Show at the Telford International Centre. They will cared for and shown by Maia, our very capable assistant herd manager. Some of you may already know Maia from BAS courses, shows or from our Instagram.
Whist I have been so looking forward to attending the show this weekend,I don’t want to be the one to give everyone Covid 😬🙈 I’m also feeling pretty shattered already and it is only my first day of testing positive. Coincidentally, Stuart had Covid before me for nearly a week and today tested negative 🙄 If only it was the other was around! Ah well… While I am gutted to not be at the show, at least I wet to watch the live feed and I look forward to attending other shows this year.
Best of luck to all competitors! Hope you all have a great time!! I look forward to catching up with you all at the next few shows 💕 - Kim

We are delighted to be able to take part in the BAS stud auction this year! Capital Camber is an exceptional young male. His fleece is impressively fine, very dense with matchstick staples, bright, and uniform in micron, with remarkably thin primary fibres. Camber will be used in house only this year, so this is the only outside mating available for him until next year.
Follow the link to bid and good luck!

🌟⭐️🌟STUD SERVICE AUCTION⭐️🌟⭐️

✨🌟⭐️CAPITAL CAMBER⭐️🌟✨

“Capital Camber is an exceptional young male who we are really excited about. He has had a limited, but very successful show career so far, and is continuing to mature in impeccable style. With his impressive pedigree, he has a wealth of strong genetics to pass on to his offspring.

Camber's fleece is bright, very dense, exceptionally fine, and impressively uniform. His fleece aligns itself in solid matchstick sized staples. His first fleece scored an impressive 86 points under Judges Mary-Jo Smith and Barbara Hetherington at the Heart of England Autumn Fleece Show. The sample tested for histogram during this show tested in at 12.9 micron, but I have listed his first fleece micron as 14.4 because that's what it was on the sample pulled from the mid-side at shearing. As you can see from his most resect histogram from October of 2022, his second fleece is maintaining its fineness and uniformity beautifully. Even into his second fleece, his primary fibres are exceptionally fine and crimp nearly at the same amplitude as his secondary fibres. His transition line is very low, and the fleece he carries up his neck is very long, fine and stylish.

Conformationally, Camber is correctly built. He stands on a well-balanced and well-proportioned frame. He has good capacity through his chest, and excellent substance of bone. He has an attractive head that is true to type and has a massive amount of fleece coverage, giving him that “teddy bear” look. Camber was a large, chunky, and healthy cria. We expect his offspring will be the same!”

Thank you to Capital Alpaca for your kind donation🙏

White Nonbreeding Female looking for a new 🏠

📍Macclesfield, Cheshire

Kalika is a sweet and friendly 4 year old female. She is not halter trained, but is very easy to handle. While she is very pretty, she does not meet our breeding standards, so we would love for her to find a home where she can be cherished as a pet 💕
Kalika will need to go to a home that already has pet females. Unfortunately females cannot be kept with pet males (even when castrated). Alternatively, if you don’t have any alpacas but would like to buy a trio of alpacas, I have others available.

PM for more info 😊
