There seems to be an ever-increasing number and diversity of light therapy products on offer - some for use in the veterinary practice, others for use by pet owners at home. The range of conditions that some claim to treat appear startingly broad.

It can be hard to understand the products because they are accompanied by a whole lot of unfamiliar jargon; and because there's no regulation of this type of product, there is no official source to go to for guidance. This month's module is an explanatory piece for anyone who needs help making sense of what is on offer. It will help give a better idea of the questions to ask the next light-therapy sales rep you come across.

Good that this article highlights that washing of owner hands after touching treated pets and washing of pet bedding are possible routes to water pollution by fipronil and imidacloprid. But the focus on vets ignores the fact that fipronil and imidacloprid products are widely available, including from supermarkets and are promoted as subscription products for regular use, by pet stores and online providers.
