Desensitising the pup one step at a time π
We started with a sparkler and will work up to fireworks, using the food in a bowl as a jackpot reward, you can see her tail waging and we were able to move the sparkler all around her with no issues π
When moving to fireworks we will work it in the same manner , step by step, rewarding all the way to build a positive affirmation with the distraction.
Note: If she was uneasy with the sparkler we would make distance and repeat, gradually getting closer until the pup becomes more comfortable before adding extras, or if very nervous we could start with noise on a phone to mimick the sparkler π

Nala is one of our day train pups ππ
Here Alan is introducing some free shaping with her.
Free shaping is a method of teaching behaviours whereby the dog has to work out what we want (hence the small empty space we work in) and we then pay behaviours we want until we get a finished behaviour. It's often slower at the start and we have to allow the dog to be in charge more, but in the long term it creates a dog who tries to please us more readily and works out tasks quickly and easily as they are programmed to use their brain π§
(That's a simplified version π
)
Do you think you'd like to train your puppy like this?
Puppy training ideas π‘
Forgot to post this, this is from 2 weeks ago, she's bigger now π« π
Showing your puppy new pictures, whether it's "needed" stuff or not is always a good idea. It teaches them to listen, it encourages motivation from the pup, keeps training fun and builds your bond with the pup π Learning builds brain power π
Yes an around command isn't something we'll use everyday, but it's fast, fun and when she's older I can do directionals in a park around trees with no resources and burn off some steam π

puppy food training session
We always get asked "how long should a training session be?" Well, that depends on the pup/its motivation/the goal, this is an example of one of our sessions. Full puppy session, bar 30 seconds as the phone memory ran out π
Puppy is 10 weeks old in the video and this is a typical food training session, which is followed by a 10 minute free time/toilet/drink time before crate rest in which she always has a nap.
In this session she eats her whole breakfast through hand feeding simple exercises, some new, some old...these exercises in the video will help her with heel work, loose leash walking, sits, downs, recall etc in the future.
No it's not 100% perfect, but she's only a puppy AND it's a training session, it's not supposed to be perfect π
P.s. training pouch would make it easier for sure ππ
