Here’s Bert showing off his recall like a pro!

One of the hardest things to do when training the recall, is to get your dog to come back to you when there’s something more exciting around, another dog, a bike they want to chase, or in this instance a little boy on his tractor! 🚜
We had of course firstly worked on his basic recall skills on a long line, when he had mastered that, in an open but enclosed safe space. Then we increased the value of the things in the environment, using high value rewards and making sure to release him quickly, so coming back didn’t always mean the end of the fun!

NOTE - Bert is a family members dog, and I know his temperament well, I don’t usually use my children as stooges! 🤣

If you are interested in no longer having to chase your dog around when you want them to come back, bargaining and pleading, give me a shout 💁🏼‍♀️☺️🐶🐾

At this time of year, posts circulating around social media regarding rapeseed are shared extensively and understandably worry many dog owners. The posts usually state that rapeseed is highly poisonous to dogs, and can cause signs including haemolytic anaemia, blindness, damaged nervous system, digestive disorders and breathing problems.

These posts are misinformation. The signs mentioned are only seen in grazing animals, and most dogs remain asymptomatic after exposure to rapeseed. Dogs can develop gastrointestinal upset if they have ingested some of the plant, and there have been reports of skin reactions which resemble burns, but this is extremely rare and does not happen to every dog which comes into contact with it.

🐾Are you looking to socialise your pup in a controlled environment?

🐾Socialisation with other dogs at an early stage in puppyhood can go towards shaping how your dog perceives other dogs and interacts with them.

🐾In order to support our pups through this integral part in their development, it’s important for us to understand how to do this appropriately. This involves learning how to read and interpret our pups behaviour and body language in new situations, and know how to support them accordingly to ensure that the situation is a positive one!

🐾Sessions will be at an introductory price of £10 per pup, and will be 45 minutes long.

🐾Thursday evenings at 6.30pm

Message me for more details and to secure your place.

** Pups must have received their 2nd vaccination at least 2 weeks before attending, and be under 6 months of age**

Hi and welcome to Millbank Mutts!

I’m a Registered Veterinary Nurse with 21 years experience, and a back ground in Dog Training.

I’m based in Maghull in Liverpool, where I am very lucky to have 3.5 acres of land, and an all weather arena, all of which are dog secure.

I have trained my own dog to competitive obedience level, and believe training should be fun, fair and kind, for both the dog and the handler!

I’m insured, and DBS checked.
