🐾 SMILLLLEEE Bruno 😬
Bruno was a very happy boy when he came to visit us yesterday and wanted to show off his teefies to all the Vets & Nurses ❤️
👀 This rare type of smile (submissive grin) can often be confused with a display of aggression so it is very important to always understand an animals body language.
🙂 A happy grin is usually accompanied by a loose relaxed body, soft eyes, and a waggy tail.
🙃 If a dog is showing signs of stress, they will often appear to have their ears back, panting, tail tucked, with a crouched/tense body and the whites of their eyes showing.

🐢🐢Speedy the tortoise is still with us at Summerleaze, and is currently enjoying some sunshine in the garden area.
We would love to reunite Speedy with its owner
Proof of ownership required 🐢🐢
Don't tell all the pets, but our nursing team have a tasty supply of treats for the pets that are staying with us! ❤️😊
This is Shirley enjoying a cheesy treat as part of her care plan 🤣

Following on from yesterday's post about grass seeds, this video demonstrates how the seeds can move and become embedded in your pets skin with only a little friction applied 😭
This is the grass that was removed from Flo's ear 😣
Flo was given some medication to make her feel sleepy so that the vet Jen could quickly remove the grass with the least amount of discomfort or stress.
We hope Flo feels much better without the grass! 🤞😊
Beautiful spaniel Flo came to see one of our vets Jen today as an emergency as she was vigorously shaking her head after being out on a walk.
The most likely reason for sudden onset head shaking is a foreign body.
The spring and summer months are times when we would consider a grass seed as being the culprit, but the foreign material was actually grass!
Video 1 is of a camera being inserted into the ear and it was clear to see what was causing Flo's discomfort 😣
🐈⬛Lyla enjoyed some tasty food on recovery from her anaesthetic and dental treatment today!
🫘🧀🦐 We ask that clients withhold food for several hours prior to their pet having a. anaesthetic, so as soon as a pet has recovered enough our nursing team encourage patients to eat.
💗 Lyla was a pleasure to provide care for today and we hope she makes a speedy recovery 🥰
You may never have seen behind the consultation room in a veterinary practice.
So take a look at the work our vets and nurses do on the front line every day to look after animals in veterinary practices, hospitals, in the field and on call - so that they receive the best possible care.
Thanks to Molly Case for the poem you have written about our profession.

Gizmo enjoyed a tasty treat at her 2nd vaccination appointment 🐟🐠🐟
Lots of things can make a pet have a positive or negative association with a vet visit. Providing treats during a visit at reception or in the consult room can assist in improving positive association 😊
Love is in the air 💗 💗 💗
Beautiful Jaya is very excited to have some fuss and cuddles with reception team member Tanya🐾☺️
Happiness is playing with my giant Brussel sprout toy 🤣
We would love to see photos of your pets & their favourite toys!

Natasha came in to see us today to be spayed. You can tell that she really enjoyed her post anaesthetic snack 😋 🤣
🌾 Welly’s grass seed story 🌾 Welly presented to us after a weeks history of sudden onset coughing. After a trial of anti inflammatories made little difference, our Vet Dan decided a bronchoscope was needed to search for the main suspect: a pesky grass blade…. Just as predicted, the grass seed was sat within an air passage leading from the trachea to the lungs (also known as a bronchi). We wish the lovely Welly a speedy recovery, and remind our clients to never forget how much havoc grass seeds can cause!
Little Holly was in for her dental today after some smelly kisses were noted. Here she is sharing kisses pre dental (with vet Udhari) and post dental (with vet Callum). We think Callum got the better deal ( orange scented kisses post dental) 🪥

✨Endoscopic Foreign Body Removal✨
3 Vets, 2 Nurses and 1 foreign body later…(📸 swipe to see the team fish it out!)
Yesterday we saw the lovely Ziggy, who had cheekily helped himself to an item from the wash bin. It was too large to pass and was sat in his stomach, causing a partial obstruction.
Where possible, endoscopic retrieval is attempted to try and avoid surgery, and works particularly well for fabric type foreign bodies.
Luckily for Ziggy, our team were able to pull out the culprit!
We hope you have a speedy recovery little one ❤️
