Fireworks can be scary for some of our dogs, so leading up to the big night you can provide them with a desensitisation program, something like a video of fireworks on the tv, in order to get them used to the sound of fireworks going off. You must give them lots of praise if they don’t react to it and if they don’t like it you can provide them with a cosy, safe space, like a crate for them to hide and keep them safe. Watch there body language tentatively so you can see if they are frightened or not. What is being shown here is called breed fulfilment. This is satisfying what a breed of dog is bred to do which Yoda’s is to chase and kill. E.g. a rat catcher. So for a dog like yoda to gain this breed fulfilment the best thing for him to do is to chase and rag a toy, fulfilling the need to chase and kill, HOWEVER, it should only be done under control and guidance… While committing to this breed fulfilment you can also implement and reinforce lots of obedience, for example: leave, wait and, impulse control and most importantly, the always present leadership!
