Not an easy walk today and not many pics as we're were really focused.
Super proud of all these girls. We went to the river but it's fishing season and the weather is mild so it was very busy with anglers.
The girls were so good staying with me and not bothering the fishermen, but there were lots of treats involved! Well done, girls 💪💖🐾

Amber had a Lap Spay (Laparoscopic Spay) at Briar House vets in Broadstairs yesterday.

Thank you to all my clients who changed days or times this week to accommodate this. We really appreciate it. 🙏

I thought I'd share our experience for other who may be looking into spaying their females.

Amber is now 3 years old and has had 4 seasons, her first being at a year old. Her next season was after another 10 months and had a heavier blood flow than the others. The last two have fallen into a 6 month pattern.

We wanted to let her mature and develop as much as possible before spaying her and planned to have her spayed after her 3rd season but missed the magic window of around 3 months (when their hormones have calmed down from their last season and before they start picking back up again for the next one).

We wanted to go for a Lap Spay for Amber because it is less invasive than a traditional Spay, removing just the ovaries through keyhole surgery,  rather than the ovaries and uterus in a traditional Spay. The surgery time is shorter, and the recovery time is quicker.

Amber had a pre-op assessment to make sure she was healthy for surgery.

Our vets recommended a small meal in addition to her usual dinner the night before surgery and no food the day of surgery due to the anaesthetic and risk of choking.

My husband took her for her appointment in the morning. The surgery was about 2 hours after she was admitted and made comfortable. And she was discharged about an hour after surgery. (Aprox 4 hours in total).

She was very drowsy, cold, and hungry after surgery and also anxious.

When they got home, she had a small meal and lots of cuddles and sleep while the anaesthetic wore off, and she warmed up.

It took her a while to want to go out for a wee, and she has been quite clingy to my husband.

This morning, she is looking a lot perkier and more like herself but still having lots of cuddles.

She's not to stretch up or jump around and no exercise or walks for the time being. We have a post-op check on Monday (after 3 days),and we will see what the vets recommendations are then.

I hope you find this useful. Will keep you posted on Amber's recovery.
