I was able to join in on my advanced Paley group at the weekend! We all had great fun and learnt a lot putting 5 the dogs though some tricky exercises (they did ask for it to be difficult 🤣)

Rules For Owning a Gun Dog 💕

1. Spend time with them each day. You are their everything.

2. Don’t hide your excitement, let them see the kid in you.

3. Your expectations of a bird dog are high but their expectations of an owner are higher.

4. Don’t sleep on it take them to the vet.

5. Go hunting with them at least one time just the two of you.

6. Tell your new friends about your old dogs.

7. Their falses aren’t the only ones in the field.

8. Judge your hunting friends by how they treat their dogs.

9. Always stop to pet them.

10. Stop walking, sit down you will see how much they love you. Enjoy it.

11. Treat puppies like puppies and treat your 12 year old like he still is one.

12. Know when to retire them and give them everything they want. They gave you everything they had.

13. Have patience when they are hard of hearing...it’s the birds fault.

14. Show your boys that there’s reasons to be gentle in this world. Bird dogs are just one of them.

15. You helped her down the stairs when she was young now help her up them when she is old.

16. Take the picture every single damn time. It’s worth it.

17. Enjoy their determination even when it’s not after a bird.

18. When it’s time to say goodbye don’t leave his side. Hold him. He knows what’s happening and he’s happy you are with him.

19. Remember them, visit the places that made you both so happy. Think about her while you stop walking and sit down with her daughter on an October afternoon.

20. Understand that you can not fill the hole they left in your heart but remember them and they will be with you every step of the way.

The second dog in my re-introduction posts is Ava, she’s a 3 year old working cocker spaniel. She is small but mighty, being only 10kg.

She’s my retriever-spaniel. I have trained for more like a Labrador, she picks up, does charity working tests and is pretty awesome at scurry events!

She’s a fabulous asset to the team, will be out picking geese on day (yes geese! She drags them!) and work for clients/friends who want more experience the next!

The OG - Woody

I have a lot of new followers and with the beautiful photos has taken recently I thought I’d re-introduce the pack!

Woody ‘ginge’ is my 7 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback from

He was my first dog, having grown up with a ridgeback I knew I wanted one of my own. He has shown and qualified for crufts, modelled, been a sp**ge dog, been do***ng in and is a great role model for the pups.

Before Easter we were very lucky to have Courteney Lawrence, from CL Canine Solutions visit us to talk about what it takes to work in the dog training and behaviour industry as a young female – with the addition of ADHD and dyslexia.

The students ranged from Level 2 to degree level Animal Care learners and all were very engaged and keen to ask questions. They were also besotted by Courteney’s two dogs that she brought along – Ava and Fern! 🐕 🐕‍🦺

Today was madness!

Is it really possible to experience so many weather conditions in 90mins??

We had sun, then rain, then hail, then rain, then wind, followed by glorious sun.

How does a lady dress for these weather conditions ?

Very badly in our case 🤣🤣🤣 warmth/dry far beats coordinated and stylish EVERY TIME.

Young dog workshop 18th Feb 9-12pm! Lunch supplied afterwards 12-1pm.

This is ideal for handlers and their dogs who are new to gundog training!

We will be covering, focus in a group, obedience, retrieves in a combination of cover, barriers and obstacles. Memories, marks and an introduction to blinds and hunting.

Open to ALL breeds as long as they are happy to retrieve. Longlines can be used.

We got up to something a bit different last week!

At the end of last year I was asked to give a talk at The Caldecott Foundation which I was delighted to do!

Caldecott School recently had a visit from Courtney Lawrence at CL Canine Solutions. Courtney is a respected dog behaviourist and trainer in Kent, and she gave a short talk about her job to students from our secondary school. Students were then invited to have a go at handling her two working cocker spaniels, and to experience how important the right type of communication is when handling animals. Courtney told us all about herself and how she came to choose her career and start her own successful businesses. We would like to thank Courtney, Fern, and Ava for a fantastic visit, and allowing us a glimpse into their working lives.

Welcome to my new page and adventure.
I left my managerial job this year to follow my heart and become a Canine behaviourist and Trainier.
I am studying Canine behaviour and training at the CIDTB who are CFBA accredited. I have also been shadowing trainers for the last 2 years who specialise in obedience, working gundog and pet gundog training. I have been in the canine industry for over 4 years including canine nutrition.
We have 6 dogs, 4 working, 1 retired and 1 sofa surfer 🤫
My aim is to help owners and dogs to fully understand each other and have a harmonic relationship. Whether that be as family pets, pet gun dogs or working dogs!
