With a new year here! We thought we'd take a moment to reintroduce us!

Welcome to Redefined Dog - Behaviour & Care. Here at Redefined Dog we offer behavioural consultations as well as offering care services to clients who train with us. Collectively we have 20 years of working with dogs (as well as lots of other animals!) So who are we?

Meet Dee - Owner and Head Behaviourist. Dee has been working with dogs for 15 years. She holds a Bachelors degree with Honors in Canine Behaviour and Management, is an accredited ACE Associate Tutor, and holds certification from IMDT, PACT and ABTC. Dee worked in one of the biggest animal welfare charities before setting up Redefined Dog to support dogs and their guardians. Dee uses a holistic approach in all her behaviour consultations. Exploring the emotional, mental and physical wellbeing to understand a dogs behaviour.
In her spare time Dee can be found with her two dogs Cairo and Nellie or watching disney movies!

Meet Jayne - Dog walker and Training Assistant. Jayne has a huge passion for dogs, and all animals! She was been working with dogs for 5 years and is currently in her final year at the Royal Veterinary Collage studying a Bachelors of Bioveterinary Science. At the end of the year she will be starting a Bachelors of Veterinary medicine! Jayne has undertaken ACE workshops with her dog Milo as well as attended several animal behaviour conferences. Jayne helps with the care aspect of our dogs but also assists Dee in a multitude of ways during behaviour consultations. In her spare time Jayne can be found with her dog Milo or scrapbooking.

Meet the dogs - Cairo, Nellie, Milo.

Cairo is a Miniture Poodle, who didn't have the best start in life. Rescued from a puppy farm, Cairo is a sensitive boy but a great teacher. Cairo has helped many dogs with their sensitivities around other dogs as well as showing the world that being blind doesn't stop you having fun!

Nellie is the newest member of the RD family, a Springer Spaniel she has a zest for fun! Nellie is on her own training journey to work along side Cairo and Milo to help support our clients dogs and teach us all to have fun!

Milo a cavamat is our handsome gentleman. He also supports us helping other dogs with their sensitivies. That's when he gets out of bed! Milo teaches us to have a slower pace in life.

Dexter and Pablo!

These two had a blast on their walk together, but the key to this successful walk was managing our expectations and open communication.
At the start of the walk, our goal was to just walk together in parallel.
Both boys have had similar training programs to manage their reactions around unknown dogs and were working beautifully around each other. With open and constant communication, we discussed the boys' meeting- leading to a successful introduction.
We continued to walk to a safe area where we spoke about allowing the boys offlead. With everyone involved happy, the boys were let offlead and had an absolute blast chasing each other, sharing sniff spots, engaging with their guardians, and calm interactions. Amazing progress for both these amazing boys!

Frustration πŸ’₯

I was once asked in an interview to explain what fustration is. I answered, this question is frustrating as each individual will deal with it in their own way, meaning you will never get a correct answer.

Frustration in dogs is the same, each individual will deal with frustration differently. But it's often grouped together, both Pepper and Dougie can be frustrated on the lead but their "whys" are completely different. Their behaviour programs are completely different but ended with the same goal.

Understanding the "why" of a behaviour is crucial to finding safetly, connection and relief for both the dog and their guardians. Finding the "why" reduces fustration, finding the "why" can change the behaviour.

What do you see? πŸ‘€

What do I see? I see a dog being allowed to process something new (and potentially scary) with no pressure to interact. I see a dog who feels safe and comfortable to be curious. A dog who knows if he needs support, I am there for him.

We stood here for a few moments before Reggie let out a big sigh, walked away, and gave a beautiful shake off. We saw a dog a few moments later, and we did the same, we watched, processed, felt safe, and moved on.

Allowing dogs to process these experiences with no pressure to interact can set them up for success, whether that be for training or a calm, relaxed walk.

The superstar that is Dylan! 🌠

Dylan has been having several training walks with myself and Cairo. As Dylan's history with other dogs is unknown and his big feelings towards dogs in the distance we introduced a muzzle just in case. Dylan really likes his muzzle, using fun games it doesn't worry him at all!
Dylan also really took to Cairo, having a calm steady dog around really helped Dylan to relax as there was no pressure on him to play or protect himself. After a short while Dylan started to copy Cairo, sharing sniff spots and walking along side each other.
Because we had built a strong relationship outside with the dogs, coming into the home was easier. Again Dylan copied Cairo after a brief explore both dogs settled down.

Next week is adding Nellie into the mix! So proud of this boy!

"All the better to hear you with!"

Lovely lady Alba has been doing so well with her behaviour modification plan! We first met a few weeks ago and introduced her to the world of ACE freework and set some foundations for her training. Alba can struggle around unknown dogs becoming vocal and distressed. Since our last session Alba and her guardians have worked really hard to implement her training and it's really paying off! Today we had a lovely relaxed walk around an unknown dog at a close distance with no reactions! Looking forward to our next session!
