One to one home visits can really get things off on the right paw 🐾 Zyla here has had 3 homes in her first 11weeks!!

Mainly because most people highly underestimate what a working spaniel needs but she’s definitely found the forever home with Mikie! Her new owner already has taught her to sit every time she greets a human! She’s the perfect mix of firm rules and time dedication.

When a dog is shaking we automatically assume two things- it’s highly stressed and NEEDS OUR HELP!

It’s extremely rare any of the dogs we work with go through this response because we don’t flood dogs, we layer it up within their capabilities but occasionally we meet a sensitive soul (and it’s usually fearful of guests which trigger this when we enter the home) and the shaking happens. But it’s NOT bad response.

It’s an adrenaline dump- definitely no help required (and the same can be said of us too!). It means the danger is passed and the animal is calming itself down. The stress hormones are being removed and the body is returning to a state of normal.

I always say to owners, adrenaline (your dogs worst enemy) can only be removed by two ways- noise and movement. This is why if I have a non stop barking dog and I start jogging with him or just letting him run, the barking will stop! Shaking does the same thing.

So next time you see your dog shake know that he’s just been through something very stressful but he’s calming himself down now- and you don’t actually need to do a thing except remain calm yourself.

Dogs being 99% wolf means we can learn a lot through their research. I enjoy studying nutrition and disease (this came from a study on tooth decay) but my favourite is of course behaviour and pack dynamics.

Their empathy and nurturing side never fails to inspire me. ❤️

I love these three ❤️ it’s always slightly more chaotic when more dogs are present but the change when they’re quiet and listening is so apparent!

Pugs are one of my favourite breeds ever, I miss having one around.

Thank you so much Debbie, we really appreciate your lovely review ❤️

…. And literally just to prove a point (we’ve actually seen THREE of these situations this week!)

Blue bullying Guinness when guests come, around food, toys and sometimes at random. Whilst I as there Guinness the Labradoodle relived himself in the garden and Blue went tearing after him!!

But this can be turned around with just a few more rules and teaching Blue to tolerate the other dog having toys, using positive reinforcement.

Here’s something I DO see everyday (almost) a frenchie attacking the other household dog!

Hugo has just moved in and was absolutely fine with old Bob at first but now has got to a point (mainly out of habit really) of lunging silently and hanging off Bobs cheek when ever he sees him! Bobs 7 and really just wants to relax (and have a tonne of treats of course).

Today took a while to convince Hugo but towards the end of the session we had both dogs within a metre of each other with Hugo purposely looking away and controlling his behaviour himself. It will take a few months of repeating this to trust him again but he will get there.

Both dogs are actually very balanced and loving, Hugo himself is really soft and without any attitude problem! It’s just something that pops up a LOT with these guys but, like anything, can be turned around again.

These two cockapoos couldn’t be more different in personalities and it gives them very different behavioural issues (as well as copying the other anyway!)

Cooper (grey) is very balanced but stubborn (means everything has to be repeated many times) and Rey is hyper sensitive. When a dog is this sensitive I have to take the pressure right off so I worked with Cooper to demonstrate.

Just me telling Cooper to give me space or say no firmly meant Rey had to leave the room! (And no she’s never been abused!) Rey needs a lot of rules to make her feel safe but they have to be put in place gently and by people she already trusts.

Worked on the beach 🏖️ with Baloo!
Pretty cool, even though I’m in black jeans and boots and everyone else is in bikinis 😂

He’s an amazing guy from the Ukraine and loved learning how to mentally stay within our bubble outside, so we can start to retrain his lunging at bikes and recall with other dogs around.

We visit dachshunds one of the most…. But not usually for pulling! Omg Luna is an absolute TANK on the lead- no joke she’s really strong and GALLOPS everywhere 😂

When dogs pull a lot we’re looking for progress not perfect, and for Luna we started teaching her instead of galloping just a trot will do. Everything’s extremely exciting for her and gradually we’re looking to tone it down, get her listening and learn that pressure on the lead means come back not lean harder!

(With lots of breaks running around like a lunatic, naturally)

This gorgeous old boy is Finn, he’s sleepy and meanders around and loves a fuss…. But he’s bitten so badly, resource guarding human food, that two people needed hospital treatment!

I came to meet him to start to reverse this behaviour by teaching him that good things happen when guests eat popcorn! (And other food too!)

I actually did my latest podcast on him and exactly how we’re going to make this situation safe and turn his behaviour around.

(He is a sweetheart really- he just thinks the human food is his and he’s not keen on sharing with strangers 😂 )

Train Recall with Your Dog

Remember dogs only learn by association of action or association of +\- consequences.

If your dog runs away as you call to him he’s learning to associate that cue word with running away!

If he gets to greet another dog whilst running away he’s learning it’s also rewarding to run away!!

I met Nellie who’s only 16weeks but raring to go! Everything makes her massively excited which leads to some serious pulling- and in the future will definitely affect her recall!

Nellies energy and lack of focus was a tricky one but we discovered that it was simply the reward wasn’t valuable enough for her. Once we switched to using chicken she turned in the perfect pup! Walking to heel giving us her FULL attention and sitting near dogs and children!

Evidently anything else simply wasn’t worth her time 😂

I saw Bear, a VERY lively (and big!) cavapoo for separation anxiety. For Bear this is something he’s carried with him from a tiny puppy and it’s now just habit. The first thing we always work on is finding the best, most comfortable place to leave him and build up from there.
We work on not following around the house and then we work on building up time spent in a specific room, whilst people are still in the house, before we think about taking those scary steps outside.

I’ve just started a new podcast (for just $3 a month!) and the first two are purely separation anxiety sessions and what we used to overcome this problem.

On the theme of updates….

Here’s Bruno after only 3 months! This boy would bark incessantly at dogs on a lead (and off lead run off to great dogs too 😂) now look at that recall!

“Hi Tilly. Thought we would share an update with Bruno. This is generally how he is up the woodland trust now. Occasional gets over excited but just tends to be everyone's mate. So happy with him now 🥹🥹”

One session- three months of application blooming well done!!!

Just received this video of Lenny, who I saw last year. Before he couldn’t tolerate being touched like this at all in his bed and would bite!

His owners have put the work in to get him to this wonderful place ❤️
Thank you for the update!

“Thanks for all your help and advice! We couldn’t have done it without you. “

Something new is afoot! 👀

I’m now podcasting about individual home sessions, with tailor made programs to help individuals. Rather than just a general program, one size fits all, this looks at the individual and which techniques I would use and why.

Episode one is about the dreaded Separation Anxiety 😥 from a 9yr cockapoo who moved a year ago and has never really settled.

To gain access just costs $3 per month!!!

Don’t worry I will still post my free podcasts too 😉

Today I saw a dog running on the road with about 4 people jogging after her! Luckily I managed to serve my car in front of her to block her into someone’s walled drive and get hold of her.

⭐️ Using my trusty slip lead! ⭐️

The cause of major debate slip leads are absolutely perfect in certain situations. Lassoing dogs without a collar and dogs that bite (so you don’t have to get your hands close) and also guaranteeing they can’t escape either!! (apart from pugs of course)

I took her to the nearest vet and fortunately she was microchipped so her owner could be called.

Happy days
