Wow it’s a hot in the UK right now, I hope everyone is ok and your pets are coping too, as I was doing my pet care rounds today I thought I’d do a video as extreme heat is a worrying time for me. Excuse the no make-up but I’d been doing a lot outside in the heat to keep the chickens and horses comfortable and was baking myself to be honest! 😮‍💨 Thankfully Pet Lodge has aircon so the little pets are thriving

12/08/2024

Petpals has the aircon on - pets are relaxing. In my house it’s boiling… I think they’ve got the better deal! 😂

24/06/2024

Remember, if it’s too hot for your hands or your bare feet, then it’s too hot for their paw pads! ⚠️

If you’re unsure whether it’s okay to let your pet go for a walk on pavements, a simple way to test the temperature is by holding your bare skin on the tarmac for five seconds ⏱️

If you find it painful, then your pet will find it painful to walk on!

To protect your pet, it’s best to avoid walks during the hottest part of the day, which is usually between 8am and 6pm. If you can't safely exercise your dog, missing a day won't hurt.

[Visual description: A close-up picture of a dog’s paw pad which looks very red and sore after being burnt from walking on a hot pavement.]

Easter is feeling like a distant memory…we had our regulars back and just loved caring for them again and catching up with their owners. There is such a trend here now of the same pets coming at the same times of year that they tend to go back into their usual walk in bedrooms and have the same neighbours…amazing! Saying that because of bio security guests can’t touch unless they are from the same household. You will see a group in the photos of 4 Bunnies’s where they can see and touch, that is a special dividing panel specifically for that situation as they can see and touch at home and I also use it for bonding bunnies (a tricky business at times!). I’ve added some photos of the children enjoying their ponies….so this was our Easter, at home on the farm together!

May we introduce you to Sienna who has come and joined the PetPals Family! At 18 years old we hope she will take over from 27 year old Bobbie and be Amber’s move up to a bigger pony. Amber has had 6 years riding and caring for Bobbie but Bobbie is an old girl and really needed to slow things down. Bobbie will not be leaving us she will now be loved by Aidan age 6 as a lead rein pony enjoying picnic hacks no doubt and if you remember Popcorn our shetland she will now be loved by Ava age 3 🥰 Talk about keeping it in the family!! 😂

This was Amber on Christmas day reading out the cards she had made each pet 🥰 and delivering veggies!

Thank you to everyone who sent their little furries to us this xmas, most are going home today but we have loved having them 😍

𝐋𝐞𝐭'𝐬 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐦- Wendy will be here as I'll be taking a holiday, it will be business as usual for our regulars but we won't be taking any new pet owners on during this time. Wendy always lives on site with her partner when we are away and so the supervision is the same and many of you have met her of course! The only difference is we will not be running at full capacity - if you plan to use us please BOOK ASAP as I don't want her to work too hard, she may never cover me again!

We’ve had a lovely weekend at home - we darent leave as it was so hot and we needed to watch the dogs and ponies closely, small pets fine with their aircon!

But we were exited to welcome our new family member Tiny Tim! He loved getting out of his tortoise table and into a large enclosure to climb some rocks and sun himself!

WARNING Very Dull Post - I admit defeat pretty please can everyone name their pets belongings in particular their pet carriers and bowls. I know your pets and their routines in fine detail but this week it’s been a brain teaser remembering whose carrier or bowl is whose 🙈 is this an over 40 thing?! 😝

I promise you don’t need to label your pets as they are close to my
heart 🥰

This isn’t aimed at anyone just will really help me remain organised and I’ll also invest in a sharpie!

Amber and Bobbie were living their best life this evening at Pony Club. Amber is not long off of the lead rein and going it alone and she’s doing so well, that kindness is always there as she leans forward to pat Bobbie at the end to tell her she’s a good girl 🥰

We always try and be flexible and arrange a set up to suit the guests. The main thing is they are settled and happy during their holiday. When this little chap needed to be with his friends but not actually in with them it wasn’t a problem, we popped him in a large piggy cage inside their large walk in bedroom and they’ve been chatting away 🥰

Amber’s new chickens with the original members all loving life 🥰

As you can see behind Amber we have left a large paddock to support insects during ”No Mow May” and it’s thriving. With Kent’s Insect population declined by 70% since 2004 (Kent Wildlife Trust) I encourage everyone to leave some of your garden space or even verges to grow and if you worry what will the neighbours think just pop a sign up

Oh my goodness what a week, our dear little Popcorn had winter colic (pony tummy ache can be life threatening 😔) and I had to call the emergency vet on discovering her not looking well yesterday morning, amazing response as they arrived in under an hour and gave medication and instructions on care and I’ve done around the clock and I’m now hoping today is a better day for us both. Animal care isn’t for the faint hearted …i’m shattered and I’ve been up through the night. She’s poo’d and eaten so that’s good. The shavings on her are due to her enjoying a good sleep after her pain relief kicked in.

Calling our house bunny owners …

Are festive plants toxic to rabbits? 🎄

Christmas is a time when we adorn our houses with many outdoor winter plants, but are these safe for rabbits?

🎄 Holly (particularly the berries) is very toxic to rabbits and should definitely be kept out of reach.

🎄 Mistletoe: It’s meant for smooching, not munching! Like holly, mistletoe is harmful to rabbits so make sure it’s kept where it should be – high up!

🎄 Poinsettias: Contrary to belief poinsettias are not actually toxic to rabbits, but the milk-like sap it produces can upset your buns’ tums, so it’s still advisable to keep these out of reach.

🎄 Pine needles: If you have a real Christmas tree, you’ll know what a pain (figuratively and literally) pine needles can be! But if you have free-range house buns, you might not want them rockin’ around the Christmas tree. Pine needles are mildly toxic and while they won’t cause any severe harm, they can cause irritation, discomfort, and possibly diarrhoea. They are also indigestible and can cause a blockage in the gut.

If your tree has been sprayed with any chemicals, such as fake snow, then this a big no no!

While most rabbits have a natural instinct when it comes to toxic plants, it’s always better to be safe than sorry, so please keep these plants out of reach from curious little ones.
