Thank you to everyone that came on our group walk today. I know it was a tough one and some struggled, me included! Myself and Nick have different views on our most favourite walks which adds to the variety and certainly pushes me to do more hills than I would otherwise which although I don't appreciate at the time feel a great achievement after. We loved having you all join us be that for all or just some of the walk.
For those who were new don't panic we have shorter walks with less hills πŸ€£πŸ™ˆ.
I hope all the doggos sleep well πŸ₯°

Don't worry if you usually see Lyn then she is still here and working and calls will be redirected to her (please call via normal call and not whatsapp). She will be on hand for any emergencies.

We still have a few spots on our walk tomorrow if you have a sociable dog and fancy joining us. Info in events. Or we look forward to seeing you when we return πŸ₯°

A fantastic session covering recall with this little one. If you think that training recall is about calling your dog to come to you and giving them a treat and your dog often ignores you then think again. Recall training doesn't even start with getting your dog to come to you 😱.

Early start today to go and support one of the PUP crews first ever agility comps like a proud Auntie and Uncle. We love all the achievements our clients make. She had a tonne of fun and for her first time in the environment did amazing. Its daunting doing these things for the first time. Very proud of them πŸ₯³πŸ₯°

A walk in the woods, nothing very amazing about that. In fact we do it quite often with this chap as he loves sniffing all the fab scents. However today it was a big deal. We vary our walks with this chap one day in the week we do field, one day woods and one a village walk alongside another one of us who has other dogs. For him the woodland walk is where he relaxes and sniffs the most. We have never met another dog there or a person and he can let his guard down. But last week he sniffed something and got a shock. We presume he got stung by a wasp or similar. He was jumping all around. Trying to escape his harness which he hasn't done since we first started with him. Rubbing himself on the floor. Firstly I let him calm for a second and gave him a minute to check him over and assess the situation. He stopped panicking and was rubbing his nose but he wasn't swelling or having a bad reaction so we just took our time back to the van. He kept stopping and not wanting to walk but then as I imagine the sting subsided he trotted back. When home I made sure his owners were aware and advised at least an antihistamine but to monitor and seek vet help if necessary. Although subdued he was fine after a while and back to himself. However today it was back to walking in the woods. We got out the van and he was hesitant so we just stood for a bit and processed. We went on some more and at the gate to the woods again we took some time. Same walking round. There was no forcing or bribing just allowing choices and no pressure. Now why am I writing about this? Because what happens if your dog has a negative experience when they are out that isn't so obvious as being stung. What if they freak out at hearing a cat deterrent or power line or see something that triggers a memory. It's easy to understand our dogs when we know the reasons but what about when we don't? Forcing our dogs through it because we know the situation is safe is not going to help them to learn and process. It doesn't matter why they are feeling anxious. What matters is how we handle it to allow them to overcome and feel better. This may be as simple as giving them time or may be a whole long behaviour modification process. Just because we don't understand doesn't mean their emotions are not justified.

Waking up in the pitch black after all last nights rain felt miserable but driving around watching the most stunning pink sunrise and blue skies emerging definitely changes the mood very quickly. Looking to be a beautiful day 🌞

As the nights get shorter we are more limited with what we can do. We only have one more week left of evening classes. Group Walks will move to street lit places, torch walks and weekends and man trailing the same. Unfortunately over November we are even more limited as we avoid after dark due to the amount of people letting off fireworks and the last thing we want to do is to have dogs out with fireworks going off. So please bear with us and if you want to join us the availability will be very limited so book early and plan your whole life around your dogs social calendar 🀣🀣πŸ₯°
