Hi all! After an amazing Christmas and New year, along with a lovely break to Mauritius, we are back to business.
We have been very busy here at Essex Silkies, all our pens have been piled high with new bark... meaning no more muddy pens! Whilst our own garden is still a tad wet, all our Silkies are currently living a life of luxury.
10 tonne done, another 10 tonne to go!

We have integrated all of our keepers into our breeding pens and of course being Silkies, they don't just take themselves off to bed, they make us put them all to bed manually every night which is probably amusing to watch, but its one of my least favourite chores! Anyone else have this problem, I'm sure you do!

We are now open as usual and cant wait to welcome back our lovely customers!

A single cuckoo hatched yesterday, so we popped her in with mum and all is well.
Luckily she was broody anyway so has sat with her the whole time.
I’ve taken food and water to them today, and mother hen eventually knows I’m not a threat, she’s stopped pecking me and let me give chick some water.

Today in the garden was lovely. Cant wait for the chicks to be roaming around soon🐥
Baby chicks mostly in their new homes now, some more to go in a few weeks and some we kept back that I couldn’t let go of, making bonds with these fluff balls is done in a blink of an eye. I could easily keep them all, but Im so happy with the loving homes we found! Last few remaining 😄
