Today is .

Did you know that vets are four times more likely to take their lives than the general population?

We get into this career because of our love for animals. We love our work but it doesn’t stop it from being challenging, stressful and difficult.

We care deeply about our patients and we want to help them with the hope to send them home with their owners. Sometimes it’s not possible and we are there to give them a respectful end to their life.

We see and experience death often daily and become so attached to our patients ❤️ We work long hours, weekends, nights, and holidays to provide care to all furry friends. It’s a rewarding career but can be tough at times.

If you are a veterinary professional, student or non-clinical worker who is struggling, please contact Vetlife.

Please be kind to your vet staff, you never know how much they needed your kindness that day 💚

Do you like travelling? A bit of "me" time? Here's a role which suits those who would like to make an important contribution to several of our teams and also to our clients. Our team of van drivers cover a lot of miles in a day visiting our own clinics as well as other veterinary practices and some farms. You get to see the countryside and country lanes as well as the main roads.
The day can be varied, and subject to change if the roads become congested or closed, so we seek someone who can plan routes but also adapt if things change. You may someone who is looking for a couple of days every week and who would enjoy travelling around the countryside in this lovely part of the world. Please share.

❗️WARNING - Scenes of surgery (look away now if you’re squeamish)❗️

Storm 🐈‍⬛

Storm was admitted this week for a general anaesthetic stitch up after he returned back home with a 2 inch wound on the left side of his chest.

While Storm was under general anaesthetic we were able to give the wound a debride, clean, and flush and then sutured the skin together.

He is currently recovering well at home with antibiotics, pain relief and strict rest. He is not sure how he feels about the buster collar though 🤨

Well done for being so brave Storm 💙

Triaditis is not a singular illness, but a combination of three separate illnesses that frequently occur together.

It can be serious condition but is usually treatable. Nunu has been very brave with his ongoing blood tests and check-ups 💙

Ben 🐈‍⬛

Ben was at our Malmesbury hospital yesterday for a dental with X-rays.

He was diagnosed with Feline Odontoclastic Resorptive Lesions. This is when cells called odontoclasts destroy the tooth’s surface, this starts beneath the gum line and gradually dissolves the root of the affected tooth. The disease continues inside the tooth to the crown, leaving the pulp cavity exposed leading to pain and sensitivity.

Here in the x-ray taken you can see Ben’s lower left canine is effected so was extracted. He had the rest of his teeth scaled and polished while under anaesthetic and is now recovering at home 🐈‍⬛🦷

Well done Ben for being so brave 💙

Today is National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day 🐈

This is the perfect opportunity to schedule your pets checkup. Ongoing regular check-ups are important for your cat and can help detect signs of early illness or disease. Catching these signs early is the best way to help your cat live a long, healthy life.

Reasons why to visit the Vet:
🐱Cats are very good at hiding signs of pain or illness. The Vet may be able to detect any abnormalities before the problems advance or become difficult to treat.
🦷Dental checks - Peridontal disease is considered the most common disease in cats. During your cat’s visit we can discuss your cats dental care and give advice on how to keep your pets teeth clean.
💉Annual vaccinations - Vaccinate your cat to help prevent them from getting any infectious diseases.
🪱 Flea/worming treatment - Prevent your cat from having internal/external parasites.
⚖️Checking your cat’s weight - This can be checked at each visit and provide information to help keep your cat an ideal weight. Obesity can put your cat at risk for diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease and more.

Tips on how to make your cats visit as stress-free as possible:
🐈 Spray their carrier with a feline pheromone spray. Spray or wipe it on the carrier or bedding for 30 minutes before placing your cat inside and heading to the appointment.
🐈Place familiar bedding/towels in the carrier as bedding with your scent on can make them feel more secure in their carrier.
🐈Jot down questions or changes you’ve noticed since your last visit. Things such as eating habits, weight, activity level or unusual behaviour are important to monitor and discuss with the Vet.
🐈Cover the carrier with a blanket while you’re in the car and waiting room. It can be scary for cats to see out of their carrier, especially in a waiting room full of people and other animals.
🐈When you arrive at the vets place your cat’s carrier up high as they can feel very vulnerable when on the floor. Don’t forget to sit in the cat-only waiting area away from any dogs.

👩🏻‍⚕️Don’t forget we are now running Senior cat clinics with our Registered Vet Nurses. To find out more please give us a call 😊

Ticks🪳

Ticks are small parasites that feed on the blood of mammals. They are most active in the warmer months and are commonly found in long grass, woodlands and areas with lots of wildlife. If you find a tick on your dog, it is important to remove it quickly and correctly.

Removing the tick:
- Use a tick removing tool and twist the tick off. Make sure not to squeeze the tick’s body or leave the head in as this can increase the chance of your pet getting a disease. If you’re unsure how to remove a tick, speak to your vet first.

How to prevent your dog from ticks:
- Avoid places known for ticks 🌱🌳🌿
- Check your pet regularly after walks 🐶
- Give regular parasite treatment to your pet 🦠

🐾Tetbury Pet of the Month 🐾

Grass seeds are very common around this time of year, they might look small and harmless but in the wrong place they can cause severe irritation.

Here are a few things you can do at to protect your dog from grass seeds:

🌱Check your dog over after every walk. Removing seeds early before they get lodged deeper into the fur is much easier.

🌱Keep the hair around your dog’s ears and paws short to minimise the risk of grass seeds getting stuck in their fur

🌱Try to avoid grassy areas with abundant grass seeds

Today we are celebrating International Cat Day 🥳🎉🐱

Today is a great day to announce that we have achieved a Silver Level Cat Friendly Certificate from the International Society of Feline Medicine 🤩🩶

The ISFM Cat Friendly Clinic accreditation is an internationally recognised award. This means we have met the criteria required to help reduce stress for cats during their stay with us and aim to promote high standards of care for your cat.

What does this mean for you and your cat? 🐈

✔️ Gentle handling - our staff are trained to handle your pet respectfully and gently
✔️ Cat Only Waiting Area - There are raised areas on which to place your cat carrier which will be away from areas where other animals may be waiting. There is also a visual barrier to give the cats an extra sense of security.

✔️ A range of equipment such as blood pressure monitors and cat specific weighing scales to provide a high level of care to our feline patients
