Dustie is a regular on our Horse Agility days and camps.

I also work with her and her human, Debbie, out and about hacking to work on their confidence together. Last week we were out and came across a closed road. It was a narrow country lane but the man at the barriers told us we’d be able to get through. We continued on and came across a big lorry taking up the road. Parked on the verge slightly in front of it was a van… the gap was only just big enough for Dustie. In fact initially I thought we’d have to find another way! Debbie dismounted and Dustie tackled it expertly, calm, relaxed and safe 😎 A little further we had another smaller truck and a digger to walk between, although this gap was more spacious it was still impressive as to how this pair handled it.

Horse Agility training is not only good fun and a fantastic and varied sport, but it also comes in use in all aspects of your horse life 😁

Today Susan receives her MBE. What amazing recognition for the work done by everyone at Jarjeer. They are the most dedicated, compassionate team you could imagine. Well deserved.

Just leaving for Windsor Castle.

Bumble the sheep came over to help with Jake’s session today 😍 she gave Liz some instruction on where to go and then had a stand off with a cone. 😆

It’s great to see Jake back on form after some physio treatment.

The ambulance that Jarjeer are having built is vital for their work. The current truck needs replacing and what they are replacing it with will allow equines to travel much more safely and comfortably, as well as being fitted out to provide care on route. Jarjeer collect abandoned and injured equines in the most dire conditions you can imagine, and the transport needs to be up to the job. I can guarantee every penny raised for the ambulance will be used for this good cause and that this will be a huge help in the welfare of equines in Morocco. So if you can spare a few pounds it would be so appreciated.

I also have a stable at my yard now which is a small second hand tack shop, all proceeds to go to Jarjeer. We have loads of stuff! If you come to a clinic feel free to take a look at what we have, or if you want to do some second hand tack/equipment shopping let me know!

Yes, I am a UK taxpayer and I would like Jarjeer Mule and Donkey Trust to reclaim the tax on all qualifying donations I have made, as well as any future donations, until I notify them otherwise.

During our August camp we were joined by a cameraman to film for an episode of FEI ride. 😳Thank you once again to our August campers for helping to get our sport “out there”. A sport that is horse friendly, marked on horsemanship, allows all equines to compete together, has walking only classes for horses or handlers who need that slower pace and is welcoming and friendly to everyone. It’s not just a sport but a great way of spending time with your horse, working together and taking your horsemanship to levels you may not have thought possible.

Well done everyone, having a huge camera on you is very off putting but you were all great. 🤩

I’ve recently started working with Gail and Anwen, with the aim of helping them develop their confidence in each other. So lovely to see such a difference in their latest session 🤩

Fred always strikes a beautiful pose when the camera turns on him.

I know what you’re thinking, ba****ck again! Yes indeed, his human did remember I was coming this time but forgot his girth. I love people who remind me of myself 😁😂

I’ve been working with Merlot and Shiraz in preparation for loading for moving. They are big lads with not a lot of “life experience” at all and can be quite nervous. We haven’t got a lorry to practice with so I’ve been using the stables to work on being enclosed and giving them some tools that will hopefully be some help on move day. They’ve not had great experiences in the past and I know the lorry itself will be a trigger but any preparation we can do to beforehand will all help.

They’ve been going into the stable with me, turning halting and waiting before coming out and also walking in with a pallet alongside to practice being more confined and then backing out. They have learnt to target towards a cone. It’s been quite a big deal for these big flighty boys. This week we progressed to them being confident enough to go in without me which is fab 😊

Note, although there’s hay in the stable they had free access to hay on the yard during training too.

A little update as we head into Autumn.

This week in particular I’ve noticed the equine’s coats changing in preparation for winter. Summer is never quite long enough is it?

I love Autumn, I think it’s beautiful and I’m looking forward to the leaves changing colour. I’m just not so keen on what comes after that with how wet our winters are getting.

I had planned to make it over to Morocco this Autumn but some of you will know I sustained a leg injury some months ago. It’s all been going fine so last week I had a lovely day out with Chris and our dog at Hawkstone Park. Anyone who’s been will know it’s a fairly big walk with a lot of steps, climbs and drops. It was a real test on my leg, and unfortunately it failed 😖 it’s not been good the last few days so I know that I’m not ready for walking mountains yet. However I am determined to get it right for the spring.

Reflecting on summer, it’s been brilliant and busy. We had some fantastic camps and I’ve also been busy out seeing people and their equines, from donkeys to Arabians, from Shetlands to Draft horses and everything in between 😆

Inara the mule has enjoyed doing a few demos this summer and the herd are all fine. Those who know me will know I have a herd of 6, plus Alfie and Spirit who I term “the boys”. I’ve always had them separate for no other reason than circumstance but this summer they all met for the first time as I moved the boys in next to the herd. They’ve been getting to know each other over the fence ready for a big move coming up where everyone will be leaving the field and moving over to the yard and fields across the way where the boys were previously at. We are just waiting for a fencing overhaul and a creation of Fort Knox (we had an awful incident caused by the hunt last year that I do not want to repeat!). The yard has better facilities and will make everything easier for me this winter.

It also means Inara will have an arena to use and next year I plan to host some education and demo days open to the public (her demos until now have been for my campers and our friends).

For now, I’m busy planning Halloween Horse Agility 😁🎃

How has your summer been?

First proper sit on for Merlin today 🎉 lovely to see both him and his friend Kip who also had a session and is so much more confident these days. Lovely boys.

A photo one of my admirers took last week. I’ve done 3 demos this summer and I’ve loved it! I come straight over when I see people appear and duck under the tape the human puts up to keep the horses off the obstacles and out of the way. Some exciting changes going on soon, herd on the move and I’ll have my own arena to play in so can keep up my skills over the winter. I’ll be up for some bigger demos next year 😍

When your client forgets you’re coming 🙈🤣 so you make do ba****ck in a headcollar 😁 the beauty of less is more training, no need for tack!

Looks like I’m wrapped for winter! Looking forward to it warming up again next week.

We had a fantastic camp over the weekend 🎉

That’s our last camp for the year done. I’m already planning ahead with ideas for next summer 😁

Thank you to everyone that came to one of the camps, you were all great sports and tolerated my sense of humour brilliantly. 😉

The camps consisted of obstacle lessons, challenges, wild agility on the big course, a demo from World Champion Inara the mule, competitions and more 🤩

Our teamwork game was very popular and I loved the team names we had. Well done to team Draygo’s Girls from July, team August Angels from August and from the camp just gone… The Muppet Show. 🤣

Thank you to my helpers too, as always most appreciated.

I may have said my last camp was busy and important 😬 thank you campers! It’s a lot of pressure when a big camera is on you but we all did very well! We are about 18 minutes in.

A couple of weeks ago, The International Horse Agility Club were asked to appear as part of Ride Season 5. What a wonderful opportunity to share this sport with a wider audience. We hope you enjoy it. Here is the link to watch it.

A huge thank you to Hollie and Ivy, Debbie and Dustie, Marilyn and Patches, Karen and Zoro, Amy and Dickie, Lana and Splash, Juliet and Oakey, Heather and Rosie for being happy to take part. Tina for letting us film at her yard and Lisa and Sarah for their valuable help.

I quite often end up visiting yards I’ve visited before. I’ve never been taken back this far though. Today Lulu worked with me in the school for the first time, and we managed some lovely relaxed pole work (we’ve not done this before so not quite champion agility standard yet 😂). But it was the first time I’ve gone into that school for 30 years, as it’s the school I learnt to ride in!

Check out comments for a photo of me learning to ride!
