Here’s a little snippet of our environmental class, this morning! 💪🏻🐾
Just look at how well they did & it’s only the first class! 🐕🐾
The environment, or the place where you train your dog in; will have a huge impact on how they learn and the techniques you will need to use.. and we want to be able to have their focus on us in and around places they find exciting and fun, how do we do this?
Well we did this by making ourselves more exciting rather than our environment by using movement & calming techniques! 🐾

Our evening 1-1 session with Pipo! 🐾
Pipo is a little 18 month old Romanian rescue, who has been in his forever home for the past 9 months and is settling in good, bar a few little hiccups with walking on lead, reacting to dogs on lead and the allowing his natural instincts to take over.
In our first evening session, we took him back to basics, changed the equipment & started working on checking in with us..
✅ Keep it simple & easy when you are retraining ✅
As you can see from the first two clips he’s disinterested in both of us and is more interested in his environment… after we made a few adjustments & started name recognition paired with positive reinforcement he started to acknowledge his handler! 🦮🐾
I can wait to see this little one in a few weeks🐾💪🏻🐾

Let’s talk about Focus… by PLAYING TUG🐶🐾
A unfocused dog is a dog that lacks fulfilment. A dog that has no outlet for their internal drivers/motivators. This builds a feeling of dissatisfaction, often leading to fear/anxiety and unpredictable behaviour including aggression.
Play is the perfect outlet for our dogs, in many ways no different to humans playing sport. It brings feelings of contentment and fulfilment.
Through the process of developing a dog and teaching them to play, the dog learns to differentiate between the toy and our hand.
We use play to teach our dogs to think through arousal. This process ultimately makes them safer in society. A dog that can get excited by something, yet still follow handler direction, is a very well trained dog.
Theses two dogs have been doing our environmental classes and just look at them! 🐾🐶

Our puppies were put through their final test… the threshold test! 🐾
Yikes! The gate blew open. Where is the puppy/dog?
A delivery at the front door. Oh no, the dog/puppy ran out😱😳🤯
This is an important concept and something I teach to all of my dogs & puppies when they are young.
They are never allowed to move through the front door or the backyard gate without my say so!❌🚦❌
Have a look at these guys giving it a go for the first time tonight & myself at the end teaching Rosie how to do it!
You can just see those clogs working! 🧠🐶🐾

When you get creative head on! 🐾Absolutely pleasure to be apart of these Ivy & Rock training journey! 💪🏻🐾🩷💙
Dog training & handling isn't always sunshine and rainbows🌈 ☀️
Dog training and handling isn't always sunshine and rainbows🌈☀️🐾
It's easy to get that view on social media. We all brag about our highs and when things go right…But you rarely see when things go wrong.
❌It happens more than you think❌
In this video we have Ivy. Ivy hasn’t been around bikes before but has been around other moving objects such as a skateboards.
✅ The first two clips of this sessions is ivys first introduction to the bike, as you can see from the video she is relax, under threshold & responsing to rider.
However that does all change.. This is not what is shown when it comes to training, how & when thresholds are broken.
📚📖For educational purposes, I’ve added in what frustration and going over threshold looks like..
For Ivy; once she was showing these signs we stopped & focus more on her outlet. We could both see she was frustrated & hyper fixated on the bike, instead of pushing her, we then change the training session to a play session to let her have her outlet & chance to realise all the built up frustration!🐾
Check out Rosie’s “drop it” command! 💪🏻
Teaching a dog to ‘drop’ or ‘drop it’ is such a fundamental skill, but it’s easily overlooked🐶🐾
Be sure to not confuse the "drop" command with a "leave-it" command.
A “leave-it”cue should only be used when your dog encounters something they want to engage with; it's your cue to tell them to ignore something or not to touch something ❌⛔️❌
A "drop it" cue is used when your dog already has something in their mouth that you would like them to put down, like dropping a ball during a game of fetch🎾🐾
Our puppies learning to settle 🐶🐾✅
Often puppies can get really excited easily when they go to new places or meet new people or dogs. This is why some puppies/dogs find it difficult to be calm around distractions.
These outbursts can lead to your puppy doing unwanted behaviors, such as barking, jumping up, pulling, and even not listening to you.
It’s possible to teach your puppy how to relax and even settle anywhere and everywhere.
Examples of when the settle is useful:
• Many of us now work from home, and trying to work with your puppy bouncing around is virtually impossible; a good settle will be invaluable📤📄📃
• Some days you just need to sit down with a cup of coffee — or something stronger — and you need your puppy to be able to settle down and relax too☕️🍷🍾
With teaching a settle you want to try an not give them as much guidance from eye contact as possible, what you want to achieve is them settling down by doing your act of nothing! 🐶🐾
Yes that’s right, rewarding them for doing absolutely nothing! Yes!🐶🐾🐶🐾🐶🐾🐶🐾🐶🐾🐶🐾🐶🐾
Here is our puppy class giving it a go! Just look at them! 👌🏻🤩👌🏻
😍😍 Isn’t this little guy just the cutest thing you’ve ever seen! 😍😍
This is Terri! He’s a 15 week old Shiba Inu, he’s currently booked in with us doing a 6 week 1-1 puppy course!🐾
We are on our 2/3rd week of the puppy course and just take a look at what this little man has learnt so far…
- puppy position fluently, sit, down, stand & from stand to down.
- sit & wait
- down stay
Theses 3 commands are difficult for puppies to learn depending on their breed/genetic, but this little guy needs a gold star for wanting a challenge, let alone learning theses 3 new commands but also learning around distractions too! ⭐️🏆⭐️
Well done Terri & Lorna 🐾💜
From last night puppy class, this little girl learning how to sit & wait🐾
🐾 One of the absolutely most important things to teach a dog is the ‘wait’ command. It means ‘pause until further instructions.’🐾
Wait:
• Teaches your puppy to down regulate - to go from an excited state to a calm one.
• Builds the understanding that your puppy needs to ‘calm down’ in order to get what they want.
• Reminds your puppy that activities and privileges happen on your terms and you aren’t a butler who exists just to cater to them.
• Helps them build self control so they have a stockpile for when you really need it in more exciting situations.
The more you ask your puppy to be in their thinking brain instead of the impulsive & instinctive brain, the easier it will be for your puppy in the future🐾🐶🐾

Today something unexpected happened…. TURN VOLUME UP ⬆️ ⬆️⬆️
Yes that’s right, some d**ks decided that they were going to let off a LOUD explosion in the park.
No one was expecting it, there were families with young children around & dogs minding their own business..
I on the other hand was putting in some practice from what I had learnt yesterday from J & P Canine Academy Seminar (which was incredible btw! Highly recommend & will be going to the next one!)
All I want to say is… Thankyou🐾
• Thankyou for doing that unexpected thing, you’ve helped indirectly strengthen mine and hers bond.
•Thank you for showing her that when things like that happen unexpectedly to still have focus on me & be with me.
• Thank you for your reckless behaviour, I now know that she’s had a positive experience around loud sounds so the next time something unexpected happens she won’t be scared, so Thank you🐾
So proud of Lulu today!🐾💜
