Just been to check this place out before I book, what a lovely gem of a place. Easy to get to, peaceful quiet place to take your nervous dogs. Lovely lady doing fabulous coffee and other beverages. Toilet is a plus.
Good sized dog area not too large so great for recall training. There is some agility equipment for those with the more active dogs.
Very impressed, open 7 days a week.
Go book your dogs a session, you wan be disappointed

Star of the day at Windsor Championship show was Rose, first in special beginners and best special beginner in breed. We could of then gone on to special beginners group but I opted out as Rose get very nervous showing with the bigger dogs. She also came 2nd in post graduate bitch.

Such a lovely day today at The National Dog today. My girls did me proud, Franki the tear away got 2nd in puppy class and Rose 2nd in special beginners and a reserve (4th) in post graduate. Thank you to Cherry Huyton for a fabulous packed lunch and too all the lovely poodle people who give me great advice and confidence to keep going. Plus a big thank you to the lovely judge Mr Albert Wight for thinking my girls are worthy enough for a placing. Home now chilling in the garden

Crufts 2024, fabulous experience, although we didn’t place Rose made me super proud of how she handled everything and to be on the famous green carpet with so many quality poodles was an amazing feeling. This little girl did me proud and I couldn’t be happier with her. She has come a long long way in the last 12 months.

************* LETS TALK FOOD ***********

Dog food it’s a minefield!!

Canned food, pouched food, cold pressed kibble, heat pressed kibble, lightly steamed food, raw food ?????

Today we are talking about kibble

Let me try and simplify things for you………

Puppies need between 25-29% protein in their diet
Adult dogs between 21-25% protein

Sounds simple ? ……..Ok so the protein in the food needs to be as high meat protein as possible. Some of the food companies put very little meat in their product because it costs money, so then they bring the protein levels up with bulkers and fillers, the only thing I can describe bulkers and fillers as are haribo sweets

This causes masses of behaviour issues:
Hyper activity
Lack of focus
Lack of concentration resulting in lack of learning
Under growth and development
Mouthing/barking/jumping up
Shadow chasing
The list goes on and on

So what do we do……..we look for a food high in meat protein (at least 50%) any more will be even better. Now here is where the food companies get very clever.

They say on the front of the bag “high in meat” and a percentage but when you break down the ingredients on the composition of the bag it turns out there is very little fresh meat and more “meat meal” or “meat derivatives” yes this is animal “parts” but not meat, it will be beaks,wings,feet etc

An example of some meat percentages:

Royal Canin - 0%
Hills science -0%
Eukanuba - 16%
Pedigree - 4%
Bakers - 4%
Harringtons - 6%
Skinners - 0%

Ardern grange- 5%
More - 24%

Millie’s wolf heart - 52%

Platinum - 70%
Eden- 65%

Shocking isn’t it! That some of the vet recommended most expensive foods have 0% meat content

Cold pressed or heat pressed ?

Heat pressed is cooked at high temperatures very quickly cooking most of the nutrients, meat juices out of the food

Cold pressed is cooked at very low temperature for long periods keeping most of the nutrients in the food

So take a look at the composition of your dog food and see if you have high or low meat content, it may explain a few behaviour issues you maybe having

I would like to introduce you all to Scott, this is the start of his fifth week at Aliwags. Having completed his OCN level 3 in dog grooming he approached me about getting some salon experience. He completed two trial days with me and I made the decision to take him on full time. His enthusiasm and passion for dogs he has in abundance and he is proving to be an asset to Aliwags already.

Also my little Brodie adores him.

Not posted in a while as I have been so so busy, but I had to share this lovely girl. Tilly is a delightful jack rascal and came for her first visit to aliwags. A joy from start to finish and was so happy playing with the toys that she would of quite happily stayed all day. Such a lovely character, so glad to of met you little Tilly. 💚🐾💚🐾💚

I met Ralf the Cocker Spaniel for the first time last month and this is a short video of him yesterday. I know it may seem unremarkable at first - however given that his owner had taken him to the vets to be groomed under sedation on the advice of a previous groomer, I think he has made enormous strides. After meeting and talking to his owner his first visit was on the 18th June and yes, he was nervous. Time, patience, short weekly sessions and just over a month later he let me bath, groom out and clip him off!. Well done Ralf, I’m so so glad your owner stopped by for a chat when she did.

Maddie - Springer Spaniel is just 8 months old. When she first came in she had that curious look as if to say, what's all this about. She was lovely to work with, such a sweet girl and soon settled. Once she'd had her bath and groom, I put her on the floor to have a wander. She spotted my Bedlington curled up on his bed under the counter and as you can see, in this very short video, she did her very best to entice him to play with her - he wasn't the least bit interested but look at her tail wagging, she was having a great time.
