~A conversation with Dotty~
A minute of conversation, communication, cooperation. And not a single word spoke.
You may have heard that 95% of your dog’s communication is non spoken, and likewise the vast majority of the conversations we have with our dogs have nothing to do with at we say to them. The way dog understand what we a telling them are far more nuance, subtle. It’s our movement, our body language, our emotions…
To have the word that we do say to our dogs have meaning there are many steps we have to take, and many associations your dog has to make to actually give them a purpose.
On a typical walk, Dotty will probably only hear 3 words from me, and anything else is fluff.
Listen to your dog, SHOW them what you want from them and empower the words you do use.
Your dog smells first, sees second and hears last.

How to piss off your dog twice in 1 minute 🤦♂️😫
Giving a dog all the freedom they want in the world will probably make it a very happy dog…and also a dog that more likely than not won’t listen to you should the unexpected happen!
Training should unlock freedom, never forget that!
We are now taking in enquiries for next year season, make 2024 the year of the Dog with us!

March 2020:
- “I’m thinking of becoming a Dog Trainer”
Boss - “I think your having a tough time right now and your not thinking straight, we can’t let you go but we will give you some time to think things through get sorted”
On this day, 3 years ago, against my better judgment and common sense, after quitting my job in the summer and with nothing but a Slip-lead….we launched Dotty Dogs.
This one has pushed me harder than I could every push myself, she’s show me the meaning of unconditional love and has taught me everything. She truly is one of a kind, my best friend, my partner.
As we move towards closing the year, I’m sat here, watching her snooze knowing the only thing she’s dreaming about is what stinky dead sh*t she can roll in tomorrow…and I wouldn’t have it any other way. To another 3 years (and many more) with this one ❤️
Teaching a HIGH DRIVE dog to ‘let go’
/
High drive dogs have a strong motivation to continue a rewarding experience, ESPECIALLY if that activity is tapping into their ancestral instincts!
This is why its important to teach them how to ‘switch off’ this drive on command.
This cant be done by simply telling them to do it, or taking fun objects away from them in hopes that they will get the idea. All this will do is make the more incentivised to keep it and create future problems by trying to avoid you and run away with said objects.
Every behaviour needs a consequence, so firstly we need to give him a reason to stop the game (by no longer making it fun for them).
- Long lines will be your best tool to keep him with you and prevent him playing the even more fun game of ‘Keep Away’.
Your dog, (depending on how motivated they are) will eventually drop the object they have been wanting to keep. It’s important to LET THEM DO THIS BY THEMSELVES!
The split second they let go you need immediately MARK that event. In this case we are using the work This will allow them to make the connection that what they just did, made the reward happen.
So in this case Red’s reward has an even more fun game and is learning that I can make this happen for him.
Repeat the process until it becomes reliable and then start adding verbal cues as they are performing the behaviour.
BE PATIENT, stay in control and most importantly…HAVE FUN!!🤩

~Muzzle Training with Big Mac ~
~Muzzle Training with Big Mac - Pt1~
Recommend Muzzle:
Baskerville Style
- Secure, durable and aerated with an overhead strap and safety clip to help hold it in place. Unlike some other muzzles these allow your dog to fully open their mouth to take in food, water and exhume heat through panting.
***Link in the comments***
Most XL Bully breed will be size 4/5 for Females and 5/6 for Males.
Before you try anything with your muzzles READ THIS FIRST!
DO NOT simply take your muzzle out of the box and just strap it on your dog’s face!
Muzzles are inherently aversive and scary things to dogs, they have no idea what they are, what their function is or why one is needed in the first place.
And to just slap one of these on your dog’s most sensitive parts without any reason, warning or way of getting off is more likely than not going to set both of you up to fail, damage the relationship you have with your dog and possibly cause serious injury to your dog as they try desperately to get it off! (Just think about how you would feel to have a cage over your face you have no way of removing it)
A slow and positive association to the muzzle needs to be built gradually. THIS CANNOT BE RUSHED!
Today we have Mac starting his training for the first time desensitising and creating a positive experience around the Muzzle. Last week we had him taking treats, playing with toys and interacting with the muzzle simply being present and around him in a positive way.
So today is the day we begin to get that massive adorable schnoz of his inside of it, WILLINGLY! And for increasingly longer periods of time. We are aiming for duration here, with the end game being he needs to love wearing this outside for at least 30mins to an hour on a walk.
We have some SUPER rewarding treats for him to keep him motivated and asking for more (in this case hotdogs).
The best time to do this is when your dog is in a relaxed state, so get them out on an adventure, have a decent play session wi
Can your dogs do this? Ours can! And yours can too!
Each of these dogs has come to us with common and sometimes severe behavioral issues from extreme pulling to on leads, canine reactivity, and fear aggression!
All of these dogs have been through an intensive behavior modification and environmental socialization program giving them the skills they need to understand the world around them and live in harmony with us.
Their owners have been given the knowledge they need to understand the language of Dog, understand their needs, and how they can apply the skills they have learned to everyday life to promote harmonic and loving relationships with their faithful friends based on leadership, respect, adventure, and love.
We will soon be introducing a highly revised and in-depth program for the 2024 Spring Season.
Welcome to The Pack!

Dotty has previously had a traumatising experience with them when she was younger so we’re working things out!
We’re in this together folks!
Some cute dog videos for you…
This is the textbook definition of anthropomorphism. (Applying human traits and emotions to non-human entities).
And this, ladies and gentlemen is the very same reason we have so many dogs that are messed up in the head!
Every single one of these dogs are trying to diffuse a tense situation they have no understanding of to the best of their abilities.
- Head tilting
-Looking the other way
-Avoidance
-Lip licking
-Body freezing and stiffness
They have absolutely no idea why their owners are giving them an angry tone, and stare down, spacial pressure…they just want them to stop.
Add some funny music, cute emojis and comedy sound effects, make it a smash hit on tiktoc and maybe your messed up dog can be famous too!
This is why the Dog world is on its arse. If you think this is cute and funny, you are part of the problem.
Can I play too?
As friendly as he was, I don’t think these guys appreciated this dude inviting himself to the party. Can anyone spot the owner? Me neither.
The nose in action!
Its hard for us to visualise how a dog’s nose functions as it is SO much more than just a nose!
A Cupcake to a dogs nose wouldn’t just be a cupcake, it would be the eggs, milk, sugar, water, flour…a identified separately and combined to form a bigger picture.
Today we got a little glimpse from of how incredibly powerful the nose is and how it influences the vast majority of decisions your dog makes.
This scent could just as easily be a sheep, a deer, a horse….this is why we train the recall folks.
