☀️ Warm weather advice ☀️
✅ Provide shade and extra fresh drinking water for pets
✅ Plan dog walks for early morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler outside
✅ Dogs and cats can develop sunburn just like us, so keep them out of direct sunlight where possible
✅ Be heatstroke aware; drowsiness, drooling, seizures and collapse can all be signs of heatstroke. Contact us immediately if you notice these signs in your pet

Introducing Pepe 🐶

Pepe came in for a confidence clinic as he is a little scared of veterinary equipment. Nurse Katarina laid down a stethoscope and some syringes whilst feeding him treats so he can see they are not scary things ☺️

He enjoyed his visit and by the end he was eating treats next to the equipment he is a little nervous of ⭐️

This little one was brought in to us by a member of the public found as a stray - M14 area.

The cat IS microchipped but the number we are ringing is not picking up 😔 so we are unable to get in touch with the owner to let them know the cat is here with us.

🐇Keep your pets safe this Easter 🐣

With Easter around the corner, here are the most common toxins to look out for:

🍫 CHOCOLATE - Contains theo bromine which is extremely toxic to dogs. The higher the Cocoa content, the more toxic it is. It can cause severe digestive upset and can be fatal if left untreated. If your pet ingests any chocolate please seek veterinary advice immediately.

🍇 RAISINS - We all love Hot Cross Buns at Easter, but due to them containing raisins and other dried fruits if ingested this can lead to kidney failure in both cats and dogs. If you think your pet has ingested any, please seek veterinary advice immediately.

🐣 EASTER GRASS - Easter baskets may contain plastic grass and toys which may be appealing to play with for your pets. However, if ingested can cause digestive obstruction and lead to surgery.

🌿 XYLITOL - Xylitol is an artificial sweetener often found in sweets and other foods. It can be extremely harmful to dogs, with even just a little bit being toxic. If you believe your pet has ingested anything containing xylitol, please seek veterinary advice.

💐 SPRING FLOWERS -
Lillies are extremely toxic to cats, all parts of the flower including the water it's in can be toxic and can cause kidney failure and can be fatal if untreated.

Daffodils - these can be poisonous go dogs and can cause digestive upset and lethargy.

Amaryllis - the bulb is the most dangerous part of this pretty plant and can cause digestive upset and sometimes respiratory issues.

Tulips - similar to the others noted, it can cause digestive upset and in severe cases respiratory and cardiovascular problems.

☀ Whilst the sun is making an appearance (slowly) we may take to some gardening over the bank holiday weekend. Just a reminder that pesticides i.e slug pellets are also toxic to our furry friends so please take care if using.

Danni is our newest member of our Care Coordinator team, so please say hi when you see her in the clinic 😊
She has a Goldendoodle called Teddy, and grew up with lots of dogs in her family 🦮
Danni loves interacting with clients and their pets, especially the puppies and kittens!
In her spare time, Danni enjoys reading, travelling, and taking Teddy on long walks.

Liz is one of our lovely Care Coordinators who you will often see taking care of everyone in our reception area.
Liz started working at Harrison Family Vets in October 2023, and loves making a fuss of everyone’s pets when they come in to see us!
At home she has a cat called Bam, who is a big ginger Maine C**n that loves a cuddle 🐈
In her spare time, Liz enjoys baking, reading and going to metal gigs.

Dentals 🦷

Below are pictures of Noodles teeth before and afters.
Her teeth were in a good need of a deep clean which we did and they were left sparkling white!

However looking at her incisors on the x rays the vet suspects some damage to them which may of happened in the past, meaning they all needed to be extracted 🦷

If you’re unsure if your pets teeth require a dental procedure or even just a scale and polish get in touch with us and we can get you booked in with one of our nurses for a dental check ☺️ 🐶 🐱 🐾
