**IMPORTANT UPDATE PLEASE READ**

Last Friday on the 1st of September 2023 the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons issued a change to some of the guidelines on the dispensing of certain medications that may affect you. This is relevant for veterinary surgeons when we supply prescription-only medications. The new guidelines relate to controlled drugs, antibiotics, antifungals, anti parasitic (flea and worm treatment) and antiviral medications.

There is no change if you are in the clinic with the vet, but the rules have changed for dispensing repeat prescriptions on some medications.

We will do our very best so that the changes impact you as little as possible, however we have no option but to follow the rules set out by our governing body.

We thank you for your understanding as we expect there will be circumstances where clients are affected.

Thank you and best wishes

The Buchananvets team

☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

Please be careful when visiting the practice today - the pavements are extremely hot already (we have done a palm test and was burning our hands so it will definitely hurt dogs paws!)

The building is nice and cool with aircon but if you have a dog who can't wait inside for any reason please call us when you arrive and wait in your car (only if you have aircon) and we will call you when ready so you can come straight in.

If you don't have a car or aircon in your vehicle when the dog is and can't wait inside then please consider rescheduling.

Thanks! Keep those pooches safe 🥰

17/07/2022

With temperatures expected to reach highs of 37°C next week, please only come to the practice if your appointment cannot be reasonably delayed, especially if your pet fits into one of these categories as the risk is far greater to them:
- brachycephalic breeds
- obese pets
- very young pets
- elderly pets

We do not have air conditioning at our Timperley branch, but we do have AC here at our Baguley branch 😊

As Red and Amber extreme heat warnings are announced across the UK, vets issue urgent advice on keeping pets safe from heat-related illnesses.

10/07/2022

How hot is too hot? 🤔 🤔

Remember to walk your dog either early in the morning, or late a night.

06/07/2022

The Baguley branch will be closing at 12 today.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
We will be back open at 8.30 Thursday morning.
Please call Timperley to speak to a member of the team 0161 980 3663.
Thanks

⚠️ LUNGWORM ⚠️

Scarily, we have had multiple confirmed cases of lungworm in some of our patients over the recent weeks. After checking the lungworm map (which can be found at lungworm.co.uk), we have discovered that the areas around Baguley appear to be a hot spot for this parasite.

Lungworm is a parasite found in slugs and snails that can affect dogs. This is very preventable with correct and regular worming treatment. Sadly, this parasite can be deadly if it’s not quickly identified and treated.

Do you know if your pet is covered for lungworm? Give the practice a call on 0161 945 0880 to check your pet is covered.

⚠️❗CHANGE TO OPENING HOURS❗⚠️

From 1st July 2022 we are reducing our opening hours, and will now be open from 08:30-16:00.

This is not a decision that has been lightly and we are hopeful that this is only temporary.

Our Timperley branch will remain open from 08:00-19:00 if you need any assistance outside of these hours.

Thank you for your understanding 🥰

Fun Friday fact!
10/06/2022

Fun Friday fact!

Daily reminder that Turtles are not “inside” their shells. They *are* their shells.

A tortoise/turtle shell contains nerves that connect to its central nervous system. So they can feel pain and pleasure when their shells are touched, stroked, knocked, dropped, or injured.

Contrary to what many people believe the shell is an inseparable part of their anatomy, forming part of its skeletal structure. The ribs and spine are fused inside the shell and contain nerves connected to the nervous system.

Take away - be gentle with your tortoise and give their shell a stroke, they will probably enjoy it 🐢

🐥 BABY BIRDS 🐦

Found a baby bird? Follow this guide made by the RSPCA for advice on what to do 👇

We are able to assist with initial emergency treatment if the bird is injured, but as we are closed over night the bird would have a better chance of survival going to a wildlife centre, if you are able to take it to one. Our nearest wildlife centre is Lower Moss Wood, based in Knutsford.

If in doubt, please call us for advice on 0161 945 0880.
