Ever wondered why a side saddle looks like it does? The two pommels give it that distinctive shape. The top one, known as the fixed head or queen, is there to support the rider's right leg. The lower one, the leaping head, sits over the top of the left thigh and prevents the rider being jumped off over fences - not for the faint-hearted!
If you'd like to see a sidesaddle up close and personal and have a go at riding sidesaddle on a mechanical horse, then our taster event on 2nd June at Croft End Equestrian Centre is for you. You can find out more or book tickets here ๐ https://www.tickettailor.com/events/thebhsmanchester/1157258
