Fear of dogs protocol 🐾 Last night T read me a story he had written as one of his tasks!
It was brilliant! About a dog called Marmalade, that used to pinch his human's toast 👌🤣🐾

It is often said that dogs dont generalise cues ('commands' in old money), very well. Meaning just because they can do a behaviour in one environment or in a specific set of circumstances, it doesnt mean they can automatically transfer the behaviour to another.
However, through shaping, I've trained Flo to lie on specific blanket, that we'll use for out and about.
I also introduced a completely different blanket into the kitchen, and she toddled off and lay on it as soon as I popped it on the floor! 👌👏
No verbal cues or prompting from me. Popping a blanket on the floor, is the cue itself. If there's a blanket out, she's gonna go and lie on it *in small doses!👌🤣Happy days 🐾

When Flo met Scout (Flo is already bigger😱 🐾) This was perfect for Flo, as Scout is one of those wonderfully neutral, pretty much bomb proof dogs 👌 Flo has some good play skills, and reads dogs fairly well, and she can ignore others. What we havent done a lot of, is walking with, but not playing with other dogs, until tonight. It's a big ask for a 6 month old pup really. I don't want to spend whole walks fighting with a rottweiler on a long line 👌🤣 She did super well, and read Scout's signals well 👌 Scout did super well. Thanks Katie Ryan 🐾

It's that time of year again 🙈! CPD to enable me to remain on the social work register. I am the only dog trainer locally, and i think regionally, that is a qualified children's social worker, and dog trainer. I am also a kids around dogs approved professional.
I have extensive experience of working with children and families, both as a dog trainer and in my career prior to setting up Short Bark 'N' Strides . Maintaining my social work status is really important to me, and seems to be well regarded by my customers with children and dogs. So I'd best get on with it 👌🐾

Just because you can take your dog somewhere, doesnt necessarily mean you should 😊
A friend asked me this morning when i was going to bring Flo to watch Oscar's ⚽️⚽️
I havent really any plans to take Flo at the moment, even though I could 🐾
Reason being lots of dogs around, and many off lead in an area I'll need to have Flo on lead, so I'm not convinced it would be a positive experience for her.
She likes to play with our spare ⚽️balls, and may be frustrated over an 80 minute period where she cannot get to the ball, potentially resulting in that frustration tipping over into lead pulling etc (i am not saying dogs should never experience frustration, but not for 80 mins!)
Risk of her being clouted with a ball, and 16 year olds kick the balls hard. Red was hit years ago and that was hard enough 🤷‍♀️🙈🤣
I wont be concentrating on her, but on the football.
So... just because we can, doesnt mean we should. I dare say the same goes for shops, pubs, school runs and lots more.
(I know some dogs may enjoy these outings, but I'd guess, if we're honest with ourselves, not many do, and most just put up with them)
