Watching.. always watching π§π§
Is your dog a starer? π§
Flo is going through a phase of doing this at the moment. Red and Rita would too. Many / most puppies and adolescent dogs do this. Herding and guardian breeds (of which Flo and all my dogs have been), do this a lot ππ They're just processing the world, and are highly attuned to environmental change and movement. With Flo in particular I feel like I can see her brain 'wiring' whilst she does it π
Sometimes she's so interested, she struggles to disengage. All totally normal. We work through it.
However, it can be unsettling for another dog, the one being watched!
And personally, i care about how Flo and I walk through the world, and ANY impact we have on others πΎπ
So we're developing strategies so she can process and gather the information she needs without causing annoyance to anyone else. Continuous interruption and pulling along could easily end up resulting in some frustration based behaviours, but sometimes we have to. But most often i reward heavily when she disengages by herself, and have strategies for when she can't π
Does your dog stare? How do you manage it?
