ROLDA UK activity consists of fundraising and rehoming of Romanian dogs in British homes (including transport of these dogs to UK)

ROLDA is a Romania animal welfare charity. We operate in Romania to efficiently, humanely and responsibly control the homeless animal population, estimated to be 2.5 million. Our six keys focuses are: rescue, rehabilitation, sheltering, sterilisation, social programmes and education (and cuddles). We have a strict no-kill policy. acting donations and rehoming rescued stray dogs where possible. With an estimated 2.5 million stray dogs, we at ROLDA need as much help as we can get to make sure these poor animals are given the home they deserve.

🚨One of the incredible rescues we support, Pisicute Norocoase, is facing an extremely tough time and they need your help!

They exist to help animals in the most heartbreaking, extreme cases, like Issy, a 5-year-old cat found crawling on her back legs in a dire state, weighing less than 2kg 💔

Right now, Pisicute Norocoase is at capacity, caring for 99 cats and 15 dogs. Their costs are overwhelming, and they're struggling to provide daily food for their animals.

158 Lives Changed Forever! 👏

We recently teamed up with The Great Catsby, another Romanian rescue organisation we support, for a sterilisation campaign in Tulcea, Romania.

I go 10 years back in time with no effort because I remember each moment. Why? Because even if I was located on a different continent, my heart and mind were in Australia every moment. I remember how it all started, how much efforts were put into ROLDA Australia, how difficult each step was, how impossible the beginning looked like. 10 years later, I have a statement to make: “ROLDA will continue to exist in Australia because love has no border and because, no matter how far we are from each other, our hearts beat for the same goal we gathered together: to continue to help the animals from Romania, who have no one else. And 10 years later, I thank you from my heart for keeping this beautiful dream alive.”

This brave little guy along with his mom and siblings lived on the streets in Romania as strays.

One morning we found Filby in rough shape, a traumatic injury had left his eye severely damaged, and we knew we couldn't leave him to suffer.

We also rescued his sister, Blossom, to keep her safe.

Can you imagine being abandoned with nowhere to turn, struggling to keep your babies safe? 😥

That was Lynsey’s reality when she and her five puppies were left to fend for themselves on the streets.

Unfortunately, Lynsey fell seriously ill, and her milk dried up, leaving her helpless pups vulnerable and hungry.

To give them the best chance at survival, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to separate them so Lynsey could receive urgent medical care ❤‍🩹

Do you remember this sweet senior girl, Uma?

After finding a wonderful foster home in the UK, Uma became ill, and the vet found a cancerous lump that needed immediate surgery 😥

To give Uma a fighting chance we covered the cost of her surgery, which was a success! Sadly, the vets don't know how long this sweet girl has left as the cancerous cells can come back but we are so happy that she'll be spending the rest of her life with her forever family!

Here at ROLDA, we see many emergency cases, but Masyanya’s story is one of the most heart-wrenching we’ve encountered 💔 This little puppy was hit by a car, suffering multiple fractures to her tiny body. Thankfully, her surgery was successful, but Masyanya has a long way to go. With the loving care of our team, Masyanya is slowly regaining her strength, showing small but encouraging signs—like wagging her tail, eating more, and taking a few wobbly steps 🥹

Her progress fills us all with hope and joy, and we know that soon she’ll be able to run and play like any other happy, healthy puppy 🐾

This is TOLEA …..

Tolea has been in the shelter for many years 😞 he is an old boy of around 11 years old.
He doesn’t particularly like other dogs and has had limited contact with people and so is unsure of them.
I am so worried for Tolea as I am afraid he won’t last much longer.
He was taken from his pen today for some new photos and a video and he seems so unsure and wobbly.

Here is the hard part …. Is there anyone who is …..

Pet free
Has a garden
No young children
And lives a fairly quiet life who could offer a retirement foster home for this old boy before it’s too late.

❤️ Meet Royce ❤️ Royce is nearly 5 and has been at the shelter for 4 years 😩 This was the first time he has been taken out of his enclosure since arriving. There was an application for him but it’s been cancelled 😞 As always, I asked for a couple of videos. Even though he has no interest I am still going to post his videos in the hope that someone falls in love with him 🙏 Royce would probably be best in a home where he is the only dog. He prefers human company even though he can be a little shy to start with, hardly surprising considering he has been locked away for so long 😞 He is a big boy, as you can see, lots of floof that needs brushing out ! So Royce has had a little bit of freedom, please don’t let it be his last 💔 you can see how happy he is scratching up the ground ! I will post the other 2 short videos in the comments. The fire at our large shelter was not man made, it was due to extreme dry weather and vegetation surrounding our facility. Big thanks to firefighters who came in less than 10 minutes from town, equipped with 2 cars and stopped it, preventing a tragedy from happening.

❤️TOLEA❤️ This poor old boy is Tolea. Tolea is 11 now and has been in the shelter for years, abandoned by his owner 😞 This is the third time he has been promoted. He was reserved 3 years ago and I was so happy for him but his adoption was cancelled 😞 This video was taken 2 years ago and this was the last time he was taken out of his pen 💔 My heart breaks for this old boy - imagine getting a tiny short glimps of the outside world - a few new sniffs of grass and then being taken back 💔 possible never to leave again …. At Toleas age, this may be his last chance of freedom. Is there anyone who could even foster this poor boy, just so that he at least has a chance of some life before it’s too late ….. 🥰Meet Max🥰 This lovely happy boy is Max. He is 5 years old and has been at the shelter for a couple of years 😞 He was abandoned by his owner. It’s quite a big deal for our dogs to get a video - when someone asks about a certain dog, I ask for a video of them. This is often the only time they are taken out of their pen. So when the adoption or interest is then cancelled, the dog goes back in to wait and wait and wait 😞 it is truly heart breaking and always rips a little bit more of my heart out 😞. ❤️ Here is the very beautiful Uma ❤️ She has had a lovely shower and is now all ready to set off from the shelter on Monday to go to her foster home in the UK with Yvette ❤️ Such a good girl 🐾🐾 This was probably the first shower she had in her whole life ! Olena was not allowed to film people during her rescue mission in Kherson Ukraine, however she did film some of the houses they searched to save animals who had been abandoned, left behind injured and hungry. Thank you so much Olena for saving them. Everyone at ROLDA is proud to support you. 💙💛❤️

When this poor dog was spotted injured and alone in the rubble, Robert went on a mission to save it. Caught in an explosion, the poor pup was hidden under the ruins of buildings devastated by war. This is the work we are doing in Ukraine, helping rescuers like Robert save dogs like this. 💙💛❤️

Our Story

ROLDA mission is to save responsibly, efficiently and humanely the strays and abused animals in Romania.

It all began with Printz, the German Shepherd Dana found abandoned in her local park. He had been in a dog fight and was terribly wounded. Dana carried him back to her parent’s apartment where, with love and rehabilitation, he made a full recovery. Due to aggressive behaviour from his many dog fights, Dana was unable to personally rescue another dog until he passed in 2002, but saving this soul sparked a desire to help more suffering strays and she worked tirelessly to persuade friends and family to lend her their homes and gardens to provide safe shelter for any stray that needed her.

Dana, only speaking Romanian and a stranger to the computer, began building the foundations of ROLDA, quickly identifying international countries as a life saving source of support. ROLDA started as a small group, with a very modest website but enough to start fundraising. In 2005 Dana attended a Dog’s Trust shelter management course in London and ROLDA build their first set of kennels while keeping the highly regarded UK model in mind. This model insulated dogs from the bitter Romania winter and gave them comfort where they previously had none.

With sheer determination to help the millions of stray dogs in her country and in collaboration with the largest steel producer in Europe, Dana organised the build of a large, modern shelter, capable of housing up to 700 dogs. ROLDA’s shelters have been an example to other Romanian animal rescue organisations and have attracted visitors from far and wide.
