ROLDA UK

ROLDA UK ROLDA UK activity consists of fundraising and rehoming of Romanian dogs in British homes (including transport of these dogs to UK)

ROLDA is an internationally supported charity working in Romania to efficiently solve the appalling problem of the country’s millions of homeless animals. Our keys focuses are rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming dogs and cats from our private shelters, but we also offer practical help and education locally to low-income pet owners. ROLDA campaigns nationally for animal rights and provides humanit

arian aid during disasters like the war in Ukraine. ROLDA UK is a small charity acting as “supporting organization” for the partner charity ROLDA Romania, the “global entity” to:
• raise awareness and financial support for ROLDA Romania for animals in need and for the poor Romanian communities struggling to look after their pets responsibly;
• find homes for rescue dogs by ROLDA Romania team, alongside compiling applications for grants to sustain our work;
• support other programs and campaigns initiated by ROLDA Romania, including providing Worldwide aid to animals and their people located in areas affected by natural of humane made disasters e.g. the war in Ukraine;
• build a network of fosters careers in order to bring dogs over for people to meet before they make a decision and also as a back-up for any unsuccessful adoptions.

Helen’s story shows the incredible difference one person’s legacy can make ♥️

Helen dedicated her life to helping animals. She lived simply so that, one day, she could leave as much as possible to those who had no voice of their own.

Today, her gift lives on through ROLDA’s work rescuing abused and abandoned stray dogs in Romania -ensuring food, shelter, and care for countless animals. 🐾

This , could you consider making animals part of your legacy too?

Everyone, say hi to Claressa in the comments, she’s been waiting so patiently to be seen 🐾💖

This sweet girl was rescued from the streets and has been quietly hoping for her second chance ever since. She’s gentle, affectionate, and would love nothing more than a calm home and a human to love.

At around 8–9 years old, Claressa is gentle and full of love. Just look at those eyes… pure gold 🥹

She’s vaccinated, microchipped, and desexed — ready for adoption or sponsorship today.

Could you help us give abandoned animals a second chance and build a safer future for those yet to come? 🐾

Every day, over 1,000 animals rely on ROLDA for food, medical treatment, and shelter. Hundreds more community pets are saved from death each year through free sterilisations, education, and support for seniors who struggle to care for their beloved companions ❤️‍🩹

Gifts in Wills make all of this possible and ensure that this work doesn’t stop with today’s rescues. They are the reason we can keep reaching neglected dogs, vulnerable cats, and families in crisis for generations to come.

They also give us the chance to dream bigger. With legacy support, we can bring to life projects like PawzUp - a new centre that will be home to sanctuaries for rescued horses and donkeys, an adoption hub for dogs and cats, and a therapy centre where vulnerable people and animals can heal together 🐾

Rambo needs a home! Could you be his human? 🐾

At 13 years old, this sweet boy has been through a lot - rescued from the streets, overlooked for years… and still, he greets the world with kindness.

Rambo is gentle, calm, and incredibly dog-friendly. He adores the company of both people and other pups.

He’s spent years waiting for his chance to have a ‘home’ all of his own and we’d love to make that happen for him.

He’s fully vaccinated, microchipped, and desexed - all ready for a forever home to call his own. At just 13kg, he’s the perfect size for a cosy corner of your life.

💛 Rambo is available for adoption or sponsorship, find out more here: https://uk.rolda.org/adopt-a-dog/

Remember Cris - the tiny white kitten we rescued after her elderly owner passed away, leaving her and her sisters alone in a village yard? ❤️‍🩹

Two of her sisters were adopted quickly, but Cris was still waiting for her forever home when, in February, everything changed.

Her foster reached out in a panic: Cris had turned yellow, stopped eating, and was barely hanging on. After two emergency vet transfers and days of uncertainty, we finally got the diagnosis of FIP and mycoplasma. Both are devastating on their own… together, they were nearly fatal.

That was three months ago.

Today, Cris is thriving. She’s completed her GS treatment, gained weight, and her bloodwork is finally stable. She’s full of energy (and always hungry!), and now begins her final observation period. If all goes well, she’ll soon be officially cured 🥰

Cris wouldn’t be here without your support. At ROLDA, we don’t just rescue strays, we also help much-loved pets whose families can’t afford lifesaving care

Meet Nala, a brave little cat with a damaged spine and paralysis in her hind legs 😔

When her owner realised she needed urgent help, they reached out to one of our trusted partner organisations. We help support them financially, and because of donations from people like you, we can act quickly in cases like this to give pets the medical care they need.

In Romania, many loving pet owners face an impossible choice when their animals get sick or injured, with veterinary care often out of reach financially. Your support means we can step in to make sure those pets still get the treatment they desperately need.

Nala was admitted to the clinic, where she began eating again and responded well to her first treatments. She underwent surgery and is recovering really well. Her test results looked good, aside from slightly elevated liver values from not eating for several days.

Sweet Nala will soon be able to go home, where she will be reunited with her beloved human 💛

We’ll be sharing her full recovery update soon - for now, know that your kindness is giving Nala, and so many animals just like her second chance.

Psst: if you’d like to get access to Nala’s full story, join our Patreon where you can get exclsuive updates: http://patreon.com/roldaorg 🐱

When Mrs. Gustea was forced to move to the outskirts of her town because her rescued animals made too much noise for her neighbours, the cost of relocating left her struggling to provide food for them. 💔

Despite living on a very low income, she had opened her heart and home to countless animals from the streets, and she refused to abandon them. 🐾

That’s when she reached out to ROLDA. Through our initiative, we were able to step in and provide the food her dogs and cats so desperately needed. 💙

This programme exists for people like Mrs. Gustea - seniors and vulnerable owners doing their best to care for beloved animals despite financial hardship. By providing food, vet care, and support, we prevent animals from being abandoned and keep families together where they belong.

👉 Comment FRIENDS and we’ll send you the link to support more pets and humans like Mrs. Gustea and her rescue dogs 💛

At ROLDA, we believe the best way to help more animals is by working together.

Across Romania, there are small shelters and independent rescuers doing life-saving work, often with very limited resources.

Instead of duplicating efforts, we support them directly: helping with food, vet costs, shelter repairs, and emergency aid, alongside rescuing animals and running our shelters in Romania.

We do the same in Ukraine, where the war continues to leave animals abandoned and vulnerable. As well as in Turkey and Bulgaria, where many rescuers are overwhelmed and underfunded.

Real change doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens when we lift each other up, pool resources, and focus on what really matters:
keeping more animals safe.

If you’ve ever supported ROLDA, you’ve supported grassroots rescuers across Eastern Europe.

Thank you for being part of something bigger than borders - and giving countless animals a second chance 💙💛❤️

These are just some of the incredible dogs whose lives have been transformed thanks to your support. Each one was rescued with no one else to turn to, and today, they’re safe, loved, and thriving in their forever homes.

Every adoption is more than a happy ending. It’s the start of a new chapter filled with trust, joy, and second chances. 💛

Your kindness makes this possible. Together, we can give even more dogs the homes they deserve.

These two tiny puppies were found near a railway track in the freezing cold, too weak to stand. If our ROLDA Rescue Hero hadn’t spotted them, they wouldn’t have survived the night 😔

They were rushed into care and soon diagnosed with babesiosis and parvo. For dogs this small, either illness can be deadly, but these two are fighters 💛

Now they’re full of energy, play-fighting with each other and pestering every cat in the shelter (sorry, cats 😅).

We’re so grateful we reached them in time, but the truth is, puppies shouldn’t be born into these conditions in the first place.

You may have noticed we’ve rescued many abandoned litters in recent months. There is a crisis of homeless dogs in Romania and an urgent need for sterilisation drives.

Sterilisation prevents pain, prevents abandonment, and gives dogs a future beyond just survival.

Sterlilsation helps us break the cycle - be part of the change and help us sponsor more sterilisations: https://rolda.org/sterilization/

Our Story

ROLDA mission is to save responsibly, efficiently and humanely the strays and abused animals in Romania.

It all began with Printz, the German Shepherd Dana found abandoned in her local park. He had been in a dog fight and was terribly wounded. Dana carried him back to her parent’s apartment where, with love and rehabilitation, he made a full recovery. Due to aggressive behaviour from his many dog fights, Dana was unable to personally rescue another dog until he passed in 2002, but saving this soul sparked a desire to help more suffering strays and she worked tirelessly to persuade friends and family to lend her their homes and gardens to provide safe shelter for any stray that needed her.

Dana, only speaking Romanian and a stranger to the computer, began building the foundations of ROLDA, quickly identifying international countries as a life saving source of support. ROLDA started as a small group, with a very modest website but enough to start fundraising. In 2005 Dana attended a Dog’s Trust shelter management course in London and ROLDA build their first set of kennels while keeping the highly regarded UK model in mind. This model insulated dogs from the bitter Romania winter and gave them comfort where they previously had none.

With sheer determination to help the millions of stray dogs in her country and in collaboration with the largest steel producer in Europe, Dana organised the build of a large, modern shelter, capable of housing up to 700 dogs. ROLDA’s shelters have been an example to other Romanian animal rescue organisations and have attracted visitors from far and wide.
