ROLDA UK

ROLDA UK ROLDA UK activity consists of fundraising and rehoming of Romanian dogs in British homes (including transport of these dogs to UK)

ROLDA is an internationally supported charity working in Romania to efficiently solve the appalling problem of the country’s millions of homeless animals. Our keys focuses are rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming dogs and cats from our private shelters, but we also offer practical help and education locally to low-income pet owners. ROLDA campaigns nationally for animal rights and provides humanit

arian aid during disasters like the war in Ukraine. ROLDA UK is a small charity acting as “supporting organization” for the partner charity ROLDA Romania, the “global entity” to:
• raise awareness and financial support for ROLDA Romania for animals in need and for the poor Romanian communities struggling to look after their pets responsibly;
• find homes for rescue dogs by ROLDA Romania team, alongside compiling applications for grants to sustain our work;
• support other programs and campaigns initiated by ROLDA Romania, including providing Worldwide aid to animals and their people located in areas affected by natural of humane made disasters e.g. the war in Ukraine;
• build a network of fosters careers in order to bring dogs over for people to meet before they make a decision and also as a back-up for any unsuccessful adoptions.

🎉 ROLDA is officially on billboards in Manchester and London! 🐾💛

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters and the partners who sponsored these placements, our rescue dogs are now shining bright in two of the UK’s busiest cities.

Every set of eyes on these billboards helps raise awareness for the dogs who are still waiting for safety, care, and a family of their own. This visibility means so much to a charity like ours, and we’re endlessly grateful to everyone who made it possible.

Have you spotted one of our billboards yet?

Let us know in the comments - we’d love to see your photos! 📸✨

Your rescue dog knows what love feels like - now they can share it with another dog still waiting for their turn ❤️‍🩹

This Christmas, your dog can give back by sending a special gift to a shelter dog through our Santa Paws initiative.

With gifts from $5–$5, your dog can:
🍽️ Fill an empty bowl with food for two weeks.
🧸 Share the joy of play with a toy for a dog who’s never had one.
🛏️ Send the gift of warmth with a cosy blanket.
🎁 Or go one step further and be a Secret Santa Paws, sending a full Christmas pack with a meal, toy, and blanket, and receive a special thank-you message in return.

Every gift helps us keep shelter dogs warm, fed, and cared for through the coldest months of the year, until it’s their turn to go home.

🎄Visit: https://uk.rolda.org/dogs-christmas-2025/ to choose your Santa Paws gift and help us bring the hope to rescue animals this festive season!

🚨 Teddy’s chance at a home may be gone forever because of his tail. Please help us find this sweet boy a UK foster home while we still can. 🚨

Teddy has only a short window left to travel. Once the new UK legislation comes into effect, dogs with docked tails or cropped ears will no longer be allowed to enter the country. This includes dogs like Teddy, whose tail was not docked for cosmetic reasons but was surgically removed after it was crushed in an accident.

😔 He is a young puppy who survived a horrific injury after his tail was run over. Emergency surgery saved his life, and he has remained gentle, affectionate, and incredibly trusting through every stage of recovery.

He is the kind of dog who should never be overlooked, yet this legislation may leave him without a single chance of adoption.

We support the intention behind the new law because it will protect countless animals from cruelty and stop the illegal mutilation trade. The reality is complicated for rescue dogs. Injuries, trauma, and life-saving surgeries do not fit neatly into legislation. Dogs like Teddy now face a future where they may never be chosen simply because they needed help.

We are urgently looking for a UK foster who can take Teddy as soon as possible so he can travel before the law changes. A foster home will give him safety, stability, and the time he needs to find a forever family. Our team will provide full support with transport and guidance.

‼️ If you are in the UK and can foster Teddy, please send us a DM or complete this foster application: https://uk.rolda.org/fostering/

If you cannot foster, sharing this post will help us reach the person who can.
Teddy deserves a life beyond the shelter. With your help, he still has a chance to find it.

*Please note only homes in the UK can be considered and all home checks apply.

At 10 years old, little Betty was rescued from a puppy mill. She was in poor condition and suffering from a painful hernia that required surgery.

It was clear that her life up until then had not been kind. Like so many dogs trapped in puppy mills, she had been used for breeding - never loved, never truly allowed to be a dog 💔

Today, Betty, now Franka, has left that life behind. She’s healthy, safe, and finally living her best life with her forever family. 💛

Swipe to see just how far she’s come in the short time she’s been with her new humans 🥹

Dogs like Franka, often seen as “designer breeds,” endure unimaginable suffering at the hands of breeders. Please, choose to adopt, and give more dogs like Franka the second chance they deserve.

When our ROLDA Hero in Ukraine found Busya, she was a tiny puppy crying out in pain, unable to move 💔

X-rays revealed an old, complex fracture that had never healed properly. Despite her size and the pain she was in, Busya faced surgery with incredible bravery.

A stabilising device was fitted to help her leg heal, and now, she’s finally pain-free, safe, and surrounded by love as she recovers.

Her journey isn’t over yet, but thanks to your compassion, she’s getting the second chance she deserves.

Can you help support Busya’s ongoing care and recovery? Support her journey: https://rolda.org/donate/ 🐶❤️‍🩹

Our Story

ROLDA mission is to save responsibly, efficiently and humanely the strays and abused animals in Romania.

It all began with Printz, the German Shepherd Dana found abandoned in her local park. He had been in a dog fight and was terribly wounded. Dana carried him back to her parent’s apartment where, with love and rehabilitation, he made a full recovery. Due to aggressive behaviour from his many dog fights, Dana was unable to personally rescue another dog until he passed in 2002, but saving this soul sparked a desire to help more suffering strays and she worked tirelessly to persuade friends and family to lend her their homes and gardens to provide safe shelter for any stray that needed her.

Dana, only speaking Romanian and a stranger to the computer, began building the foundations of ROLDA, quickly identifying international countries as a life saving source of support. ROLDA started as a small group, with a very modest website but enough to start fundraising. In 2005 Dana attended a Dog’s Trust shelter management course in London and ROLDA build their first set of kennels while keeping the highly regarded UK model in mind. This model insulated dogs from the bitter Romania winter and gave them comfort where they previously had none.

With sheer determination to help the millions of stray dogs in her country and in collaboration with the largest steel producer in Europe, Dana organised the build of a large, modern shelter, capable of housing up to 700 dogs. ROLDA’s shelters have been an example to other Romanian animal rescue organisations and have attracted visitors from far and wide.
