Meet Barry, a dog who is so terrified of fireworks that he refuses to go to the toilet. πŸ’”

Owned by one of our team, Barry is one of the many animals affected by fireworks, making celebrations like New Year's Eve very challenging.

Currently on behavioural medication, Barry's phobia is so severe that he has struggled to go for walks since Bonfire Night and now reacts fearfully to sounds like car doors slamming.

We urge you to put pets first and reconsider any plans to host or attend at-home fireworks displays. πŸŽ‡

Tootsie is finally in a home for Christmas! Alone and vulnerable, Tootsie was struggling to survive on the streets of London.

Her situation took a turn for the worse when some children spotted her and tried to run her over with their bikes. πŸ’”

Crying in fear, she was rescued and brought into our care, where she began her recovery.

She was soon moved to our Southampton rehoming centre where she began displaying nervous and aggressive behaviour due to the trauma she had experienced.

The team spent several weeks gently building Tootsie’s confidence, and eventually, she relaxed, after realising she was in a safe space.

Tootsie's outlook on life changed dramatically, and after 53 days with us, she finally found a loving home where she felt safe. πŸ’™

Monty's experience serves as a warning to be extra vigilant with pets during the Christmas season. ⚠️

Clearly, Monty wanted to join in on the Christmas festivities when he broke into a hamper and consumed some boozy fruitcake.

Luckily, his owner noticed quickly and rushed him to our animal hospital in Victoria.

The rich fruitcake contained sherry-soaked sultanas, nuts, cherries, and brandy.

Sultanas and raisins are toxic to cats and dogs, and even small amounts can lead to severe kidney failure. While alcohol can be fatal to pets.

Thankfully, Monty made a full recovery, but it's a reminder that the festive season holds many hidden dangers for pets. πŸŽ„

Terrified and undernourished, three puppies were desperately searching for food when they found themselves in our care. It was obvious that the siblings had seen and experienced very little of the world, given how shutdown they were and the fear they displayed when encountering many everyday sights and sounds.

The team knew they had a real job on their hands. As well as building their physical strength, the team had to start training and socialisation from scratch. Thanks to the emergency resources available, they were able to help the pups come out of their shells and learn to trust. Without your donations, this wouldn't be possible.

Found freezing, limp and lifeless inside a carrier by a kind passerby, by the time she came through our hospital doors, the team feared this poor cat was already dead - until she let out a tiny cry for help. 😿

Named Finsbury after the London park she was found in on a cold and wet day, she was hanging onto life by a thread. Rushed into intensive care, she had collapsed and tests confirmed she was critically ill with hypothermia and a respiratory infection. She was also covered in fleas that had left her with fur loss and scabs all over her body.

To give her a fighting chance of survival, she was given much needed warmth and medication and miraculously, she began to recover. Once stable enough, she was transferred to a foster home where she enjoyed lapping up all of the attention. Now thriving in a loving home, her previous trauma is thankfully a distant memory. Just look at her journey!

Finsbury made it to us in the nick of time, and thanks to the emergency care available, we were able to save her life. Without your donations, this wouldn't be possible. Introducing the most festively named of kitties - Mr Figgy Pudding Paws! πŸŽ„πŸŽ…

So shy when he came into our care, Figgy would make a nest with his blankets and hide away from anyone that came near his pen. Following some inappropriate toileting in his former home, he was suffering from urinary crystals – a potentially fatal condition if left untreated.

But after a course of medication, Figgy started to feel brighter and his natural curiosity overcame his anxiety. Cautiously he introduced himself to the Blue Cross team and hasn't looked back since! Could you make his and welcome him into your home? πŸ‘‰ https://bit.ly/4ixDzie

At just four weeks old, Emma was not where she should have been at Christmas - close to her mum in a warm, loving home. Instead, she was abandoned in a box and left on a doorstep. πŸ’”

Covered in fleas and showing signs of cat flu, she was terrified. Fortunately, the homeowner made the right decision to bring her into our care.

Luckily, Emma was a fighter, responded well to the treatment, and found a loving home just in time for Christmas.

We rely on your support to carry out our work helping vulnerable pets like Emma.

If you can, please donate today to help provide emergency items for our veterinary and rehoming teams. πŸ™

In just nine short months of life, Elsie has been through more change than any cat should in a lifetime. πŸ˜₯

Coming into our care as a stray, Elsie has been rehomed and then returned and needed space in multiple foster homes while she waits patiently for somewhere permanent. All she wants this Christmas is a home that she never has to leave again. ❀

Despite so much uncertainty, she's happily explored and settled in each home she's been in and is playful, loving and affectionate. She'll make the most wonderful company! Meet her πŸ‘‰ https://bit.ly/4g4Fnh8

Caked in grime, the team initially thought Midge was actually white with brown-coloured patches, but they were in fact, large mounds of fleas, filth and grot. πŸ’”

But she was one of the lucky ones. Thanks to the emergency resources available, we were able to act quickly to get her back on her paws but without your donations, this wouldn't be possible.

Who's ready for a Christmas miracle? ✨

When Tabitha was spotted hanging around outside our cattery looking a little dishevelled, the team took her in and set about posting an appeal on social media to try and locate her owner.

After a week of beginning to lose hope, a gentleman came in showing pictures of a cat that looked just like Tabitha. They arranged a meet at the centre and it was immediately clear from the reunion that the kitty belonged to them. Thanks to the care and hard work of the team, the 13 year old went home with her family to spend Christmas where she belongs. ❀

Although Tabitha is clearly a much-loved cat, her owners weren't aware that it's now the law for all cats to be microchipped. Had this been the case, they would have been reunited even more quickly. Find out more πŸ‘‰ https://bit.ly/462lcv2

Passing by the forecourt of a Lexus car garage, when a member of the public heard meowing, they alerted the staff who found a tiny black kitten under the bonnet of one of the cars!

Named Alexus (what else!) she was brought to us and apart from being riddled with fleas, she was in good health. She thrived in foster care and it wasn't long before she went off to a new home. Just look at her with her new best friend. 😻

Alexus' story highlights the importance of keeping cats safe in the colder months. With the temperature dropping, cats may crawl into a car bonnet or engine to keep warm but when the engine is started up, cats can be seriously injured or even killed. When it feels cold out, be sure to check or give your bonnet a quick bang before setting off. πŸš—
