It seems the use of cross ties for horses to have become more and more common, at times even as if it was the only way possible to groom them or do whatever else... And to me this speaks volumes about the most common kind of relationship between horses and their humans, a relationship where the humans are basically afraid of their own horses, who just cannot have any voice at all about what's happening to them. In fact cross ties take away their ability to communicate and their right to have autonomy of their own body: they cannot scratch an itchy spot, they cannot look behind, they cannot give any calming signal, they cannot move away to communicate a discomfort...In short they just cannot do anything at all and they end by feeling completely vulnerable, with all of this only in order for their humans to feel safe and...not afraid to deal with their "dangerous beasts"... So terribly sad πŸ˜‘
