I know I don’t need to ‘bark’ on about heat stroke and walking dogs in these temperatures… but you can pretty much expect that it’ll be house and garden visits for those booked in during the day this week.

We want all dogs to be smiling like Dukey here, and we won’t put any at risk for the sake of a walk when it’s this hot ☀️

The Woof Pack are back! We had a great time travelling around France for 8 days in our campervan and we are now refreshed and ready to get back to it 🇫🇷🥳

We were very pleasantly surprised at how accepting restaurants, museums, beaches, cafes and shops were of dogs. There was no question about them being allowed in and it made us think of a few things;

🐾 we didn’t see any tense or anxious behaviour from any dog
🐾 we didn’t see any dog mess anywhere
🐾 we didn’t see any dogs pulling their owners around, all very polite on leads
🐾 we didn’t see any dogs begging rudely at tables
🐾 we didn’t hear any barking or whining

Now, is this because the dogs are so widely accepted in busy establishments abroad and treated as a member of society themselves, that they have learnt to behave in an orderly manner?

Does being involved in every aspect of daily family life promote a happy and open existence for the dogs? To be able to enjoy the world in a non tense environment, rather than being left at home alone for hours feeling anxious while the rest of their family are out enjoying themselves?

Should we in the UK be looking at what other countries are doing and offering more dog friendly places?

What’s better than cuddling dogs all day? Well not much compares….BUT when you receive recommendations from your pack members and they sing your praises to others…. That’s a pretty close second!

We don’t like to advertise and have grown our pack through word of mouth. We couldn’t be more happy with our clients and their beautiful pups if we tried, and we wanted to say THANK YOU to each and every one of you.

We are very happy summer has finally arrived! ☀️ ☀️ ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

Gentle reminder, we always monitor our walks on a case by case basis with the dogs’ welfare being paramount at all times.

Therefore please expect this week that it will very likely be too hot for many of our dogs to be walked and as such, bookings will change to house and garden visits only.

Those on holiday cover will be walked either very early or very late if the temperature allows.

Charity Triathlon Update;

26 days till our challenge at Lake Coniston 😮‍💨😳

Plagued with constant illness from my side since about April, I’m not going to lie, I’ve been worried about being fit enough.

Luckily I have Sophie to keep me motivated, tell me to sort my sh*t out and suggest fun ways of getting fitter.

Cue this muddy ride around Sherwood Pines after the storms on Saturday. We have since bought mud guards for the bikes 🤪

Your support and sponsorship is a great help keeping us on the straight and narrow and a reminder of why we are putting ourselves through this gruelling challenge.

🌟polite notice of a change to booking with us

Those that know me personally, will know I HATE talking about money and if I could, I’d do this for free. Sadly with the cost of living and sheer speed of time, I’m needing to make a slight tweak to taking future bookings for holiday cover.

We will now require a small non refundable deposit to secure the booking (obviously refunded if we have to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances). We can longer hold places without the security of knowing they won’t be cancelled with short notice and us receive nothing for our time spent turning others away believing the place to be filled, conducting our free meet and greet and behind the scenes admin.

We do have a cancellation policy that I’ve previously not implemented because I’m a soft touch, but this will now become part of our arrangement with our clients and will be highlighted within our email exchange when issuing the pet sitting agreements.

I hope you can all understand the need for this to be introduced and i want to thank you for your continued support of The Woof Pack 🐶🧡

With Ashleigh coming to the end of her college year very soon 🤯 she has availability for dog walks, home checks and housesitting over the summer.

She would also be available to care for a wide variety of creatures too, including horses, rabbits, guinea pigs etc.

🚨 Wording stolen from my 2023 hot weather post, but absolutely still applies… please read 👓 🚨

🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

Pack members will already be aware of this, but just as a gentle reminder or to those I’ve not yet walked over the hotter months…

🟠 The dogs’ welfare will always take priority. I will carry water, walk in shaded areas and at a steady pace

🟠 If I feel the temperature is too warm or the pavements at risk of burning paws, I will not walk the dog(s) and I will provide alternative care. This could be in the form of a one hour home visit, with garden time, mental stimulation and play

🟠 This may differ from dog to dog - for example; weight, fitness, age and pre-existing conditions all play a part in a dogs’ ability to cope with the weather. Whilst one dog may manage a gentle walk in 20 degree heat, another may not

🟠 The dogs who are on holiday cover will be walked either very early morning or late in the evening when it’s the most cool (unless it still hasn’t returned below 20 degrees)

🟠 If you do not agree with the above I will respect your decision, however I will very likely cancel the appointment if I feel the dog will suffer for the sake of a walk in hot weather. I’d rather lose business than risk a dog be poorly with heat stroke

We always like to check these little details as we try to keep every dogs’ routine as near to normal while we are looking after them.

Of course, each to their own opinions and rules, but personally we like them as close and snuggled up to us as possible 🧡

Now that Ashleigh has passed her driving test 🎉 we have availability for additional walks and holiday care during half terms when she’s off college, now I don’t need to ferry her around!

We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and currently surviving on cheese and leftovers, not knowing what day of the week it is!

When we return next week, we are going to be implementing a change to our walks. This isn’t something that’s not been taken without great thought and consideration, however we have to remain fair to ourselves and our Pack. It takes such a lot of organising and arranging of our diary to ensure we can fit everyone in, that last minute cancellations really throw us off course.

Therefore we will be asking for 50% of the cost of any cancellations for walks with less than 24 hours notice.

Our holiday covers and housesits will remain subject to the contract cancellation charges so there’s no change for these services at present.

I hope everyone understands this change and we do appreciate last minute things do crop up for people unexpectedly from time to time but this doesn’t help pay our bills!

We would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support in getting our lovely business off the ground. What an amazing time we’ve had since our set up last August, and we have met some wonderful people - but most importantly, their incredible canines 🐾 🐾

We are so lucky to be in high demand (thanks to you all 🥰), and be able to care for your homes and pets as if they were our own.

As a result of this, I’m sure you all understand that we need to bring our prices up a little to keep in line with our competitors and to justify the input passion we have for what we do. As much as we love to do it and it doesn’t feel like work, we provide a service that keeps us away from our own homes and creatures and we also need to keep in line with the cost of living.

Naturally, we want to provide sufficient time for the change and we won’t be implementing the new pricing until 1st January 2024. If you would like a copy of the new price list, please reach out to us.

The changes are purely for boarding/holiday cover/housesitting. Walks/lunchtime checks are not included in the changes at this time and the costs remain the same.
