Max the kill shelter rescue dog from Elcee's Rescue He has been in for a much needed groom today. You can see on the video he’s never been groomed before.. he didn’t like the dryer (allot of dogs don’t) so for my dryer’s safety and his teeth I did muzzle him while it was on. He was the sweetest boy and is so cute!!

🐾 Have you just welcomed a puppy into your life? 🐾

Why Is it important to get your puppy used to grooming?
Some breeds of dogs need grooming on a regular schedule. It is critical that you begin desensitizing them to the grooming process. This will help make the experience enjoyable for them and fear-free.

What age should you start introducing grooming to your puppy?
You may find allot of confusing & conflicting information online about when is best to start your puppy having grooms. You should allow your puppy to start going to the groomers around 12-14 weeks of age. As long as your puppy has had all of their injections and are allowed to go out walking they are safe to start their grooming education.

When should my puppy have their first hair cut?
Before your puppy has their first hair full cut it is extremely beneficial to them to have some previous experience at the groomers being brushed, bathed and experience equipment that will need to be used. You’d expect for your puppy to be having their first full hair cut at around 15-20 weeks old. There is a myth that you cannot have a puppy’s coat cut before they are 6months old, this just isn’t true. Most groomers will see a high volume of very matted puppy’s and owners are very distressed to see their very cute fluffy puppy come out the groomers for the first time completely naked. No one likes to clip off dogs And send them home naked, but de matting a puppy is not part of our job description. It is absolutely unethical. (Other than minor knots)

What brushes should I use on my puppy?
That depends on what breed you have, as your local groomer or message myself and we would gladly advise and send links to the best brushes for your dogs coat type.

What packages do you offer?
I’m glad you asked 😊
Age must be between 12-18 weeks old.
Here at Barkbers dog grooming I do a puppy package that is £60 this is 3 sessions including:
* Meet & greet - I will meet you and your puppy, leave your puppy with me for around 15 minutes where I will spend sat on the floor feeding treats then introduce to the table (you supply as to not upset your puppy’s tummy) and gaining trust/bonding.
* Brush & sound- this session i will have treats (supplied by you) and we will spend time on the table& in the bath using different brushes to brush through the coat.. we will have some sounds on like the shower, clippers & dryer to help desensitise your puppy.
* Bath & dry- will consist of a light brush through the coat, bathing and very slow light dry.. if your puppy does well we may also trim around their eyes and hygiene areas.

These sessions must be 1-2 weeks apart.

This is a great way to start your puppy’s education into grooming.
Each puppy is different & some will move slower or faster than others

Having a GSD Typically, a thorough grooming session every 4-8 weeks is recommended. However, more frequent grooming may be necessary to manage their blowout during spring and fall shedding seasons.
