🌟 Welcome, Murphy! 🌟

Meet Murphy, an 18-month-old Cavapoo who has just joined us for a 4-week residential training course! 🐾

Murphy is a sweet boy who has a few challenges to work through, including some resource guarding in the home and reactivity towards other dogs on his walks. Our goal over the next month is to help him build confidence, improve his social skills, and develop calm, positive behaviours that will set him up for success in all areas of life.

He’s already been introduced to our lively Poppy, and while he’s still figuring out how to handle her exuberance, we’re confident he’ll warm up and learn to enjoy her playful energy! 🎾

We’re so excited to work with Murphy and help him reach his full potential. Stay tuned for updates as he progresses on his journey! 🐶❤️

Pippa enjoyed her snow day ⛄️ and showed some great improvements in her recall skills 🥰 ❄️🌨️

I often get asked about recall training, what tools I use, and when it’s appropriate to let your dog off lead, so let’s go through some of the basics….

1️⃣ I do not let my dog or puppy off lead until they have a solid reliable recall.

I hear so often “his recall was amazing as a puppy, he followed me everywhere then it just suddenly stopped” 🥲… your puppy does not have a reliable recall just an image desire to follow you as the world is still a little scary and you make him feel safe… once they get to being a young teenage dog, you are suddenly less important to their feelings of safety and their desire to see other things and explore is far more interesting.

2️⃣ I build food drive and/or ball drive. Your dogs must have a reason to want to come back to you! Dogs do not recall from chasing deer or going to see other dogs because they love us!

3️⃣ A Flexi lead!!! There must be a consequence for ignoring our recall command, that may be as little as stopping them from getting to what they are interested in, and using the lead to ensure they come back to us before getting their reward.

I am always told “aren’t flexi leads dangerous, don’t they hurt your arms if the dog pulls” etc… and the reality is yes they can be dangerous if they are used incorrectly, and in the wrong environment. For example, they should never be used to walk Fido who pulls like a train down the street, you have very little control of which direction a dog moved on a flexi lead and a quick jolt to the side and they could be under a car 🚗 😐

Pippa sometimes feels a bit unsure in new or unpredictable situations. To help her grow into a confident and well-rounded dog, we’re introducing her to a variety of environments and challenges—one step at a time. 🦆🌳☀️ 🐿️

While she has a great food drive, it tends to dip in high-distraction areas or when she’s feeling uneasy. That’s why we’re focusing on maintaining her motivation and reinforcing her confidence, even in the trickiest moments.

🐾🌟 Hello Everyone! 🌟🐾

Apologies for being a little quiet on here recently—I decided to take a break and enjoy the festive season with family and friends, before a manic January begins! I hope you all had a magical Christmas filled with love, laughter, and plenty of good food! 🎄

On Boxing Day, I welcomed a new arrival for residential training. Meet Pippa, a beautiful 9-month-old Labrador who has joined me to work on her basic obedience training. 🐾 She’s full of energy, charm, and a wagging tail, and I can’t wait to share her journey with you all.

Keep an eye out for updates about her progress! Wishing you all a wonderful end to the year and a bright start to 2024. ❤️🐾🥰🎄🎅🏼

Meet Kenny 🤭 I just love his name!

Kenny is a 1 year old Romanian Rescue with several mixed breeds in his genetics.

Yesterday I received a desperate phone call from Kenny’s owners who had no where else to turn. There had been several altercations between Kenny and her older Yorkshire Terrier which most recently resulted in her being bitten.

After a lengthy assessment and 1-2-1 training session yesterday, we have put a training plan into place to make the home dynamics more harmonious.

Kenny’s owner was due to go away this weekend, and due to the seriousness of the altercations her previous plans for the dogs were no longer viable. Kenny will spend the weekend with me for some training and to keep him and everyone else safe.

He is by no means a bad dog, in fact he loves a cuddle, and in most cases was not the instigator of the fights.

Introducing Theia, and 8 year old German Shepherd. Just goes to show, you CAN teach and old dog new tricks 😜 🐶 🐾

Theia has recently moved into a local town, having previously lived in rural Scotland. Having the space to run free, and a lack of social boundaries, coupled with some negative experience with dogs at a local park, shortly after her move, Theia has some anxieties towards the outside world, displayed through reactivity towards people and dogs.

During a two week residential course, and an additional week of day training, we will be working through Theia’s emotions and putting her back on the right track to enjoy her later years 🥰 🐾
