✨ Coping With Anniversaries After Pet Loss ✨

As we inch closer to the 1-year anniversary of our Harryboy’s passing, I’ve been thinking about all the other “firsts” we’ve been through — our first Christmas without him, his birthday, and all those little moments that reminded us of how much love he brought into our lives. 💔🐾

Losing a beloved pet never truly leaves our hearts — and special days can bring all those emotions rushing back. It could be their gotcha day, their birthday, Christmas, or simply a day that meant so much to you and your pet. These moments can feel heavy — but they can also become gentle ways to remember the love you shared. 🌈

Here are a few ways to get through those tender days:

🐾 Allow yourself to feel — Sadness, love, even guilt… all are normal. There’s no “right” way to grieve.
🌿 Create a small ritual — Light a candle, visit their resting place, or look through your favourite photos.
💌 Share their story — Talk about them with family or friends who understand. Their memory deserves to be spoken of.
🕯️ Do something in their honour — Donate to an animal charity, plant a tree, or spend time with another pet who needs love.
💞 Be kind to yourself — Healing doesn’t mean forgetting — it means learning to live with love in a new form.

Your pet’s love was real and everlasting — and so is your bond. 💖

✨ One Year Ago Today ✨

One year ago today, we opened our doors for the very first time. Was it daunting? Absolutely. Were we scared? Without a doubt. We poured our hearts, souls, and everything we had into this business — with no guarantee it would work.

But here we are, one year later — happier than we could have imagined. 💛

Our phones started ringing on day one and haven’t stopped since. We’ve met so many incredible people and shared so many touching stories. Many of you still reach out to tell us how you’re doing — sharing photos of new pets you’ve welcomed, memorials you’ve created, and even tattoos in honour of your beloved companions. 🐾

We’ve learnt so much from every single one of you, and we’ll never stop being grateful for the trust you’ve placed in us during such emotional times. Thank you for being part of our journey — you’ve made this first year truly unforgettable. 🤍

Keeping Animals in your life.
(even when you’re not ready for a new pet) 🐾

Losing a pet can leave a huge space in your heart and home. 💔
You might not feel ready to bring another animal into your life—and that’s completely okay.

There’s no right or wrong timeline for healing. Take the time you need. 💛

If you still miss the comfort of being around animals, there are gentle ways to stay connected without the commitment of a new pet:

✨ Volunteer at a local shelter or rescue
🏡 Foster animals in need, even short-term
🐕 Help a friend by walking or pet sitting their pets

Sometimes, simply being around animals again can bring quiet comfort and help you heal at your own pace. 🌿

Sharing this post from Loose Women 💔

It really is so important to talk about pet grief — and why we should never feel embarrassed about our loss. I completely understand that some people just don’t get it, and that’s okay. Sadly, pet grief still carries a certain taboo.

The truth is, there’s no timeline for healing. For some, it may take weeks; for others, it can take years. There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to love or loss.

It’s nearly a year since we lost our beautiful boy Harry 🐾 — and not a day goes by where I don’t think of him. My grief is still there… just a little easier to carry now.

Sending our love and thoughts to Nadia and her family at this sad time ❤️

COPING WITH THE LOSS OF MULTIPLE PETS 💔

Losing more than one beloved pet in a short space of time can feel truly overwhelming.

It’s more common than many realise — especially when our pets are siblings or of a similar age. They share so much of life together, and sadly, they often reach old age around the same time too.

When losses come close together, it can be hard to untangle your grief — to know which feelings belong to which pet — or to feel like you’re honouring each one as they deserve.

This experience even has a name: “cumulative grief”, or grief overload. It’s a very real, and very human, response to deep love and repeated loss. 🕊️

💞 Coping with Grief Overload

There’s no single “right” way to grieve, but here are some gentle ways to support yourself through it:

🐾 Take your time. Each pet deserves their own space in your heart. Allow yourself to grieve them individually when you’re ready.

🌿 Create small rituals. Light a candle, frame a favourite photo, or plant something in their memory — simple gestures can help bring comfort and connection.

💬 Talk it through. Whether it’s with loved ones, a counsellor, or a pet loss support group, sharing your feelings can ease the weight of grief.

🤍 Be kind to yourself. Grief can come in waves. Rest when you need to, and don’t rush the healing process.

You loved deeply — and that love doesn’t disappear. It simply changes form.

The 5 Stages of Pet Loss Grief

Losing a beloved pet is heartbreaking, and grief doesn’t follow a set path. You may move through these stages—or experience them all at once. However your grief unfolds, know that your feelings are valid.

🐾 Denial – “This can’t be happening.”
You might expect to hear their paws on the floor or instinctively reach for their leash. Denial helps soften the initial shock.

🐾 Anger – “Why did this happen?”
Frustration, guilt, or even resentment can arise. This is a natural part of grief and a reflection of how much you loved them.

🐾 Bargaining – “If only I had done more.”
Regret and “what ifs” may fill your mind. Be kind to yourself—your pet knew they were loved.

🐾 Depression – “I don’t know how to move forward.”
Sadness may feel overwhelming. Allow yourself to grieve, knowing your pain is a testament to your bond.

🐾 Acceptance – “I will always love and remember them.”
Healing doesn’t mean forgetting. It means carrying their memory with love instead of pain.

Grief is not linear. There is no “right” way to grieve, and lighter days do not mean you care any less. Take your time, honor their memory, and know that you are not alone.
