Welcome to this week's edition of Amical's Feel Good Friday.
This week, we would like to show you a video from 2weeks ago. An RSPCA inspector arrived with an emergency: a grass snake who had gotten stuck in a drain grate. Dr Carter came to the snakes aid, with Nurse Laura and pharmacy administrator Sabrina. Dr Carter assessed the snake and gave him a small sedation to help relax his muscular body so Laura and Sabrina could try and remove him from the grate. Because of his entrapment (or food) there was a swelling behind the grating, closest to his tail which meant we had to try and get the longest part of his body back through the grate.
As you can see, it was not a easy task! However, the snake was freed and went to East Winch Wildlife Hospital to recover before his release.
As always we wish you all a wonderful weekend and we will see you again next week for another edition of Amical's Feel Good Friday.
It is going to be hot today. Please enjoy the sun safely. Paddling pools can be excellent for helping to keep pets cool. Nurse Louise's dog loves having a paddle in her pool!

Sam's Feel Good Friday!
Welcome to this week’s edition of Amical’s Feel Good Friday! 🎉
Let us introduce you to a brave dog, a 9-year-old beagle called Sam, who has recently been in to see us after hurting his knee while playing and running in a field.
Sam has been known to Amical for many years as he has had various medical complaints throughout his life so far. Upset tummies, feeling under the weather, the odd lump and bump…the normal complaints. 🐶
In 2019, he damaged his cranial cruciate (inner knee) ligament and required a repair to his right knee. Sadly, this condition often becomes a bilateral (both sided) problem as the ligaments can degenerate and come weak meaning that they can break under stress and strain. This is commonly seen as a sudden intense pain while jumping, running, or playing followed by lameness that often doesn’t resolve with pain relief and rest alone.
So, Sam sadly had his left ligament give way at the end of July. He was having a whale of a time running around a field with his house friend, Frankie under the watchful eye of his owner, Mrs. Cushion. Sam was heard to suddenly cry out and he started limping on his left hind leg. 😢
Due to having had this problem before, Mrs. Cushion noticed right away that Sam had injured himself and sought prompt medical advice. Unfortunately, Sam was acutely lame and due to significant pain levels, he was booked in for a cruciate repair procedure as soon as possible on the 5th August. He had a positive draw test when his stifle (knee) was examined, meaning that his cranial cruciate ligament was broken. As you can see from the video, he was ever so sore before the surgery was done. Despite his clear discomfort, Sam was very brave and tolerated all examinations and interventions with grace. ❤️
Dr. Valley carried out the procedure with Scrub Nurse Laura RVN and his Anaesthetist Nurse Michaela RVN. The surgery went very well. 🎉
Luckily, Sam had not damaged the meniscus (shock absorbers/cartilage) in his kn
