Send-Away
Both dogs โoff leadโ at the same time doing a Send-Away. The one year old Dalmatian in this video is deaf. Training a dog with this disability is not always easy, but this certainly demonstrates what can be achieved with patience and consistency. Very well done to all. ๐๐
Having fun.
Training your dog isnโt about you taking ultimate control, it is about setting boundaries that work for you both, increasing a bond and developing a relationship. It is most certainly about still having fun too. ๐๐พ
Checkin-in
This sweet girl has been attending the training classes and as you can see never travels too far before she comes back and โchecks inโ. Not the easiest of environments to do this in as there are plenty of distractions.. The training certainly makes a difference. ๐๐.
In this particular class not many of the dogs are familiar with each other, which certainly adds to the distraction level. No over use of cues, they make it look easy. Super clever . ๐๐๐
Off lead focus.
Both dogs are โoff leadโ in this video and clearly remaining focused on their owners. Super well done. ๐๐๐พ
This video demonstrates how much dogs read our body language. Physical cues were used rather than verbal ones and this lovely dog responded perfectlyโฆ ๐๐พ
A very windy walk this afternoon, 18 seconds of footage and notice that Dita โChecks inโ four timesโฆ Never very far away and always circling back to meโฆ Building focus on to you as the owner is so important. ๐๐พ
Impulse Control exercises using other dogs/humans and movement too as a distraction. Very well done indeed. ๐๐พ๐
Scentwork..
All dogs are doing so well in the Scentwork classes at the moment and they are not just the working breeds that most would assume would do well at it. Look at this little Chihuahua, who has mastered doing a โSitโ (Passive indication) once he finds the Scent. Very clever little dog. ๐๐๐พ
The Send-away
Ive shared this video before but it clearly demonstrates that that the โSend-awayโ exercise can be useful in many situations. In this scenario Dita is being sent to her lead, it continues to build her focus on to me in an environment where her attention could clearly be elsewhere. ๐๐พ
Focus
I am always advising owners to get more focus on to them; they are โthe game giverโ and iโm not talking about toys or a ball. Habituation to life is really important and we need to teach dogs that even though things go on around them, they donโt always need to get involved. Giving dogs the opportunity to continue to repeat unwanted behaviours is not constructive when we are trying to teach them better ones. Ditaโs recall is 100 percent proofed in all environments but when I was initially training her I would be doing so on a long line in environments that were more distracting. Once I could see that she was more focused on to me, I took the opportunity to practice โoff leadโ. Checking in, Scent game and Recall. Always setting up to succeed! ๐๐พ
Clever little Cockerpoo ..๐๐. This little dog demonstrates a lovely passive indication when she finds the scent. We changed the small scent tin for a scent induced rubber acorn, so we could definitely see that it was the Scent the dog was alerting too and not visualโฆ SCENTWORK UKโฆ Dogs just love Scentworkโฆ
