I’ve been walking Eddie for 18 months + now & this is our first sleepover together❤️ Normally I come in, put his harness on & we go for a walk. Now I’m sat in his living room he’s thinking ‘what are you doing in my house??’😂😂 Netflix & Chill tonight with Eddie😍🤣🤣

Why it’s not a good idea to let your dog run up to other dogs…

Potential Aggression or Fear:
Dogs that are on a lead may have specific reasons for being restrained, such as aggression, fear, or anxiety. If a loose dog runs up to a leashed dog, the leashed dog may feel threatened or trapped and could react aggressively, resulting in a fight. Some dogs are on leads specifically because they do not interact well with other dogs.

Health or Medical Concerns:
A dog on a lead might have health problems or be recovering from surgery or illness. Such dogs may be in pain, have limited mobility, or be unable to handle the stress of an unplanned interaction. Running up to such a dog could exacerbate its condition or cause injury.

Training or Behavioral Issues:
The dog on a lead could be undergoing training, such as learning how to walk calmly or behave properly around other dogs. An unexpected interaction could set back this training or reinforce negative behaviors, making it harder for the dog to learn good habits.

Owner and Dog Safety:
A sudden interaction between a loose dog and a leashed dog can cause physical harm to both dogs and their owners. The owner of the leashed dog may become entangled in the lead or injured while trying to control their dog in an unexpected situation. Additionally, if the leashed dog reacts aggressively, both dogs could get hurt.

Stress and Anxiety for Both Dogs:
Not all dogs enjoy meeting other dogs, especially unexpectedly. Some dogs may feel stressed or overwhelmed if another dog runs up to them. This stress can lead to behavioral problems, such as leash reactivity, anxiety, or fear aggression. Even a friendly, off-lead dog can cause anxiety if they approach a dog that is uncomfortable with such interactions.

Respect for Other Dog Owners:
Owners of leashed dogs may have valid reasons for keeping their pets on a lead. Allowing your dog to run up to theirs can be seen as disrespectful, inconsiderate, or irresponsible. In the UK, the "Yellow Dog" campaign promotes awareness that dogs wearing yellow ribbons, leads, or other accessories need space; approaching such dogs is particularly inappropriate.

Legal and Regulatory Issues:
In some areas, there are local laws and regulations regarding dog behavior in public spaces. For example, the UK has laws under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 that require owners to maintain control of their dogs in public. Allowing a dog to run up to another dog uninvited could be seen as a breach of these laws if it results in an altercation or injury.

To ensure safety, respect, and well-being for all dogs and their owners, it is best to ask for permission before allowing your dog to approach another dog on a lead. Taking a cautious and considerate approach helps create a positive environment for both dogs and humans in public spaces.

I’ve added a photo of Eddie wearing yellow and written on his harness states ‘reactive’. If you see a dog wearing yellow please give them space! Time and time again he’s had dogs run at him and the owners have always been surprised when he reacts🙈 This is why he has become reactive as he’s had so many unexpected off lead dogs charge at him so now he believes every interaction with a dog will be a bad experience.

I want to raise awareness. As a Dog Walker this experience is becoming more and more common, which is now happening on a weekly basis. I will always stand up for my dogs and do anything to protect them.

Poor Richmond was in a bit of a state yesterday!!😢

We left him home alone for about 3 hours. When we got back firstly he didn’t bark when we walked up the drive?! Straight away we knew something wasnt quite right.

He wouldn’t settled, kept stretching his back legs, yawning, grunting when he moved & then moments later he was sick. He’d also had an accident (which can be normal for him🤣) but not when he’s just been on a walk beforehand.

Anyhow we rushed him to the vets as we suspected he had ate something. An X-ray later which shown a lot of air/gas in his abdomen and then treated for Gasritis. No idea what caused it or why! Poor Richmond was in quite a lot of discomfort. With him being a Dachshund too I didn’t want to risk it as they can develop back problems.

He’s home now & feeling a lot better. While I’m out today Seans keeping a close eye on him. He’s super sleepy & feeling sorry for himself 🙈 Our dogs & cats love to worry us!!😂

A friendly reminder for the Group Walk price increase starting 1st September 2024🐾

Also please check your emails as I have just sent one out. Hopefully you have received it!

Starting from 1st September 2024, the price for the 1 hour group walk will be increasing to £13, with an additional £5 for each extra dog from the same household. This decision has not been made lightly as I know many of us are all feeling the effects of the rising cost of living. The adjustment is necessary to continue providing the high level of care and service that your dogs deserve. I understand that any increase in expenses can be challenging and I greatly appreciate your continued support.

Over the past few months I've been making small changes to my weekly schedule. This change has allowed me to achieve a better work-life balance ensuring I am in a great mindset. With more time to rest and recharge, I can give your dog the full attention and energy they deserve. We can do more exploring, find new walks and take our time. A 1 hour walk is always plenty but I love being able to spend more time out.

Finally, in order to limit my screen time on my phone as I am glued to that thing! Messages and calls will be replied to between the hours of 8am-6pm, Monday-Friday. If its an emergency or you really need an answer asap of course I will respond as soon as I can. I will always do my best to get back to you on the same day.
