Humphrey’s Progress
Today we’re reflecting on dear Humphrey’s progress. Humphrey is and Old English Sheepdog who has had issues with herding his family since he was a puppy. Now that he’s older, this has progressed to herding his family on walks and tugging in frustration. With 1:1 training and guidance from Adapt K9 combined with his parent’s engagement in his training, Humphrey has come on leaps and bounds. As his mum so rightly said, “progress is not linear” so it’s important to reflect on footage to help us see the whole journey. We still have work to do with this loving boy, but I’m so proud of how far he has come.
Important notes: Nipping and tugging can be dangerous, so do not attempt the methods shown without guidance from a professional trainer. Humphrey’s behaviour here is not aggressive, this boy does not have one bad bone in his body.
Yana’s second 1:1 training session
Welcome to our January new recruits! Each day this week I’ll be introducing you to each of our new students and share how we’ve been getting on so far.
Name: Yana
Age: 2yrs
Breed: mix
Yana is a young rescue girl who was brought to the UK to live a happy and fulfilling life with her new parents. While Yana is an angel in her home, she can be overly social when out on walks and wants to engage with every person and every dog she encounters which has led to mild reactivity stemming from her frustration. We’re working on Yana’s engagement with her handler and teaching her how to ignore distractions. She is picking up her basic training very quickly and her engagement has already improved massively. Check out the video from Yana’s second 1:1 session with me, she learnt turns so quickly and stayed engaged around a lot of distractions!🐶
Emergency stop proofing
Proofing the emergency stop while loose leash walking with Chacha in a high distraction environment. Now we’re advancing to performing this at a distance alongside his whistle recall. After just a few months Chacha has progressed so well, I’m especially proud of how he can control his excitement in new places around dogs and people 🐶
