Breed Facts Friday: Czecholslovakian Wolfdog ๐Ÿบ

The Czechoslovakian Wolfdog is a breed of wolfdog that began as an experiment conducted in Czechoslovakia in 1955. The breed was known as Czech Wolfdog until 1982.

After initially breeding working line German Shepherds with Carpathian grey wolves, a plan was worked out to create a breed that would have the temperament, pack mentality, and trainability of the German Shepherd and the strength, physical build and stamina of the Carpathian wolf. The breed were originally used as Border patrol dogs but were later also used in search and rescue, Schutzhund sport, tracking, herding, agility, obedience, hunting, and drafting in Europe and the United States.
It was officially recognized as a national breed in Czechoslovakia in 1982, and was officially recognised as a breed by Fรฉdรฉration Cynologique Internationale (FCI) in 1989.

Breed Facts Friday: Cornish Rex ๐Ÿฑ

The Cornish Rex is a breed of domestic cat. The Cornish Rex has no hair except for down hair. Most breeds of cat have three different types of hair in their coats: the outer fur or "guard hairs", a middle layer called the "awn hair"; and the down hair or undercoat, which is very fine and about 1 cm long. Cornish Rexes only have the undercoat. The curl in their fur is caused by a different mutation and gene than that of the Devon Rex. The breed originated in Cornwall, Great Britain.

Breed Facts Friday: Boston Terrier ๐Ÿพ

The Boston Terrier is a breed of dog originating in the United States of America. This "American Gentleman" was accepted in 1893 by the American Kennel Club as a non-sporting breed. Boston Terriers are small and compact with a short tail and erect ears.

Like many breeds the Boston Terrier takes his name from the area where he was developed โ€“ in this case the New England city of Boston USA. The first club was founded in the 1890s in Boston and membership was confined to Bostonians. However, its fame soon spread throughout America and by the 1950s it was the most popular breed in the USA.

The Boston is the smallest of the Bull breed i.e. containing Bulldog blood. The founding father of the breed is reputed to be a dog known as Hooper's Judge, born in Liverpool, a cross between a Bulldog and an English White Terrier and exported to America. He inherited the brindle markings from the Bulldog and white markings from the Terrier, with the smart brindle/white being the accepted colour of the breed to this day. The colour pattern of white on legs, chest, collar and head make the Boston a very 'Dandy' dog and the term 'Boston marked' is sometimes applied to other breeds with similar colour patterns e.g. Mantle Great Danes.

Breed Facts Friday: Burmese Cat Breed ๐Ÿˆ

The Burmese cat (meaning copper colour) is a breed of domestic cat, originating in Burma, believed to have its roots near the Thai-Burma border and developed in the United States and Britain.

Most modern Burmese are descendants of one female cat called Wong Mau, which was brought from Burma to the United States in 1930 and bred with American Siamese. From there, American and British breeders developed distinctly different Burmese breed standards, which is unusual among pedigreed domestic cats. Most modern cat registries do not formally recognise the two as separate breeds, but those that do refer to the British type as the European Burmese.

Originally, all Burmese cats were dark brown (genetically black), but are now available in a wide variety of colours; formal recognition of these also varies by standard. Both versions of the breed are known for their uniquely social and playful temperament and persistent vocalisation.
