It’s that time of year again that some horses ( and owners ) dread 👀
We were delighted to welcome the lovely Billy and his owner to the yard yesterday who has always found clipping a very stressful time and needed sedation to manage him .
In just a short 20 minute groundwork session we were able to help him feel more confident and relaxed and he stood quietly with no sedation whatsoever for the first time in over 5 years.
Well done Billy!

Gary Witheford is currently recruiting for part and full time roles at his established remedial, rehabilitation and training yard.
Are you a motivated, hard working self starter with a passion for equines?
Do you want to work with a team of professionals working with a variety of horses from all disciplines.
Do you have attention to detail, a ‘can do’ attitude and willingness and desire to learn?
Then we may have the role for you.
We are looking for someone to help with all day to day yard duties, give first rate care and management to our residential horses and those coming for rehabilitation, veterinary and remedial work as well as those visiting our water treadmill.
Good personal skills are a must, as well as the ability to work on their own initiative when required. Riding is a bonus, but not a pre-requisite of the role.
In return we offer good rates of pay, accommodation if needed and plenty of training. Working closely with Gary Witheford this is a hands on job with plenty of opportunity for the right person.

Next step of my Emperor’s training was a visit to the peerless @withefordequine last night and a demo he was giving to a local vets. Gary knows more about horses and why they behave the way they do more than anyone I’ve ever met and to watch him working them is always a joy - so easy and calm and non stressful 🙏

Uzincso wins a shade cozily after being rather tricky on his last start and throwing away his race by rearing in the stalls. Our boys have worked him at homer since and he wins impressively for @jbutlerracing at @kemptonparkrace. Well done to all connections and of course our boys who accompanied him this evening to make sure he was on his best behaviour.

Gary and Craig Witheford are specialist trainers of horses with behavioural issues. Having been known as the 'go to man' for starting stalls issues for many years, Gary has been totally dedicated to his work in racing since he first 'got the bug' at a young age.
With Craig joining the team over 15 years ago, together they have become well respected in the industry. With Gary's repeated hints at retiring (that'll be the day!) Craig is poised to continue the good work so the last couple of years has seen many changes in the business and this continues into 2019.
With an ever-growing demand from Trainers all over the UK, Ireland & Europe, we offer a unique service at trainers' yards all over the UK, dealing with horses who have issues with starting stalls. This also involves follow up attendance at racecourses all over the country for stalls tests and support for tricky cases on a race day.
Gary is also an Official Advisor to the Turkish Jockey Club, spending several weeks each year in Turkey, training the stalls teams, stewards and starters and advising on welfare and safety improvements.
Gary's passion for improving racing also brought about the introduction of Barrier Trials in the UK.
These were introduced at Lingfield Park in April 2015 and are organised by Witheford Equine. They have become a key part of many trainers' programmes, with Wolverhampton Racecourse becoming involved in 2019. Gary and Craig believe these trials are key to supporting trainers throughout the UK and the aim is to introduce trials at other tracks in the future.
Since we stopped accepting residential remedial cases, changes have been put in place for the next phase in our transformation. With the excellent facilities at Westcourt Stables, the team is continuing our work with the rehoming of ex-racehorses as well as providing livery for horses needing post-operative rehabilitation, convalescent or retirement livery and holiday grazing for racehorses.
Our offering now includes full and part livery services and the re-introduction of Natural Horsemanship courses at Westcourt in the form of group workshops and one-to-one training for owners wanting to learn the basic techniques to build on their relationship with their horses.
