🐾 Helping Your Pet Feel Safe and Comfortable at the Vets 🏥💕

Did you know that bringing something familiar from home, like your pet's favourite toy or blanket can help them feel more relaxed during their stay with us? 🐶💤

Familiar scents, like those from a blanket or even a piece of your clothing, can provide comfort and reassurance. These smells can help your pet settle into new surroundings and feel more secure.

So, we would always recommend bringing an item for the duration of their stay with us ❤️

🐹 Is your guinea pig getting enough Vitamin C? 🥕🍓

Did you know that guinea pigs can't produce Vitamin C on their own? This essential nutrient must come from their diet to keep them healthy and strong. Vitamin C supports:

🦴Collagen production
🛡️ Immune system health
🧬 Antioxidant protection
🦷 Healthy bones and teeth

You can make sure your guinea pig is getting all they need by providing high-quality guinea pig pellets fortified with Vitamin C. 🥕 You can also supplement them with fresh veggies like bell peppers, courgette, and very small amounts of fruits like apples and strawberries! 🥒🍓

Did you know that pets commonly lose body heat when anaesthetised? ❄️🐾

This happens because of reduced muscle activity, a slower metabolism, and the effects of anaesthesia on the body’s ability to regulate temperature. But don’t worry – our awesome team of veterinary nurses have got it covered! 🙌

We use a variety of patient warming techniques to keep your furry friend comfortable during surgery, like heated pads, heated tables, blankets, bubble wrap, hot air blankets, vet beds, and heated discs. And yes, they may even rock some adorable baby socks! 🧦✨

So, if your pet has been in for surgery with us, there's a good chance they've been sporting their very own pair of glamorous baby socks while staying nice and warm! 🐾💙

This female cat has been seen around the Matlock Green area for the last two to three weeks. She’s sadly spent the last two to three nights under a kind gentleman’s car port. We’d like to help reunite her with her owners before Christmas 🎄

Do you recognise her? She’s very friendly but has no microchip. Please share or contact the practice if you believe she belongs to you 🐱

🎁 Plants to avoid at Christmas 🎁
During the festivities, we often bring plants indoors or gift them to friends and family.
If there are pets at home, the following can be dangerous and are best avoided.
🎄Mistletoe
🎄 Ivy
🎄 Poinsettia
🎄 Christmas Cherry
🎄 Lilies
🎄 Pine needles
❓If you’re unsure whether a plant is toxic to pets, we’d recommend you do some research first, you can also contact us if you need any advice 😊

🎄With Christmas fast approaching, don’t forget that some well loved traditions may be dangerous to our pets (especially those kitchen counter surfers!).
🎄In 2021, research by the Kennel Club highlighted that dogs are 75% more likely to be treated for poison ingestion in December than in any other month.
🎄Common Christmas dangers include:
• Chocolate
• Christmas pudding & mince pies
• Onions, garlic, leeks, shallots and chives
• Alcohol
• Macadamia nuts
• Sweets
• Anything containing the artificial sweetener xylitol, also listed as E967, birch sugar, wood sugar or birch bark extract
• Mould (particularly important for the cheeky bin raiders)
🎄 Please remember to keep the wrapped chocolates and sweet gifts from under the tree and safely out of the reach of inquisitive noses. Santa won’t mind if he doesn’t get a mince pie this year 🎅🏼.

This week we have celebrated Jasmine, one of our lovely receptionists, turning the big 3.....0......
Jasmine only joined the DVV team three months ago but in that time has slotted right in. She is a friendly face on the front desk, great with our patients and has picked up the DVV ethos like a duck to water 🦆
Most importantly she is a real team player and the whole DVV team now can't remember what it was like not to have her around.
We want to wish her the very best for her big birthday and look forward to celebrating many more birthdays with her being part of our team 💙
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAZZ 🎂 🥳 🎉

💊 Did you know that your pet’s medication can potentially have a negative impact on our ecosystems?
💊 Help us become a more sustainable practice and make your home as safe as possible for yourselves and other family members by bringing back your unused medications for us to dispose of correctly.
💊 This can include:
• Empty medication bottles
• Partially used medications
• Out of date medications
• Unused medications
💊 Please note that we are unable to provide refunds for returned medicines (this includes unused items) as we are unable to re-stock them once they have left the practice.
Thank you 🐾

🦴 Happy World Radiography Day 🦴
Today we’re celebrating more than just X-rays, we’re celebrating the wonders of modern veterinary care and the incredible work done by our team.

Did you know that X-rays were first discovered in 1895 by the German professor Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen? Fast forward to 2024 and they’re now an essential diagnostic tool.

This year alone, our team has taken X-rays from 165 pets so far, helping to diagnose everything from bone fractures to the mysterious ‘I ate something I shouldn’t have’ moments.

Whether it’s a curious puppy with a potential bone injury or a rabbit with a mysterious tummy ache, X-rays give us a peek inside, making the diagnostic process quicker and more accurate.
Here are a few of the many X-rays we’ve taken over the year 🩻
