💊 Did you know that your pet’s medication can potentially have a negative impact on our ecosystems?
💊 Help us become a more sustainable practice and make your home as safe as possible for yourselves and other family members by bringing back your unused medications for us to dispose of correctly.
💊 This can include:
• Empty medication bottles
• Partially used medications
• Out of date medications
• Unused medications
💊 Please note that we are unable to provide refunds for returned medicines (this includes unused items) as we are unable to re-stock them once they have left the practice.
Thank you 🐾

🦴 Happy World Radiography Day 🦴
Today we’re celebrating more than just X-rays, we’re celebrating the wonders of modern veterinary care and the incredible work done by our team.

Did you know that X-rays were first discovered in 1895 by the German professor Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen? Fast forward to 2024 and they’re now an essential diagnostic tool.

This year alone, our team has taken X-rays from 165 pets so far, helping to diagnose everything from bone fractures to the mysterious ‘I ate something I shouldn’t have’ moments.

Whether it’s a curious puppy with a potential bone injury or a rabbit with a mysterious tummy ache, X-rays give us a peek inside, making the diagnostic process quicker and more accurate.
Here are a few of the many X-rays we’ve taken over the year 🩻

🎆 Fireworks season is almost here and while it’s fun for some, it can cause distress and worry to our pets.
Here are a few tips and ideas of how to help them during this time.
• Walk dogs during daylight hours.
• Provide a ‘den’ or a safe hiding place indoors.
• Close windows and curtains.
• Use background noise such as the radio or TV.
• Distract your pet and keep them busy with something tasty on a LickiMat and use treats and toys.
• Stay calm and don’t react to the fireworks yourself.
• Don’t leave them alone.
• Don’t punish your pet if they’re worried, it will cause more distress.
• If possible, keep cats indoors.
• Look in to calming products such as a ThunderShirt.
• Supplements and pheromones can be useful such as Adaptil, Calmex, Feliway, Pet Remedy or Zylkene.
• You can book an appointment with one of our vets if your cat or dog has previously had a problem with fireworks, there are medications that we can prescribe to help.

🥕 It’s the final day of Guinea Pig Awareness Week 2024🥕
Our last information snippet comes from The Guinea Pig Vet.
‘Guinea pigs should have plenty of places to hide, this can include deep hay, tunnels and hidey houses so they can move around their enclosure with minimal time in the open’.

🥦 This week is Guinea Pig Awareness Week 🥦
Guinea pigs need lots of good quality hay for their teeth which are open rooted and grow continuously.
The rough hay helps to keep the teeth worn down to a healthy length🌾
Guinea pigs have 20 teeth in total, 4 incisors, 4 premolars and 12 molar teeth 🥕

🥦 It’s Guinea Pig Awareness Week 🥦
Did you know that Guinea pigs aren’t related to pigs at all? They are rodents.
Their scientific name is ‘Cavia porcellus’ which is why they are referred to as ‘cavies’. The word ‘porcellus’ is latin for ‘little pig’.

😻Our next Cat Clinic is Thursday 19th September😻
Between 8am and 3pm we aim to have a quieter practice with appointments for cats, rabbits and Guinea pigs (poorly dogs will still be seen).
Since June this year, in England we legally have to microchip our cats. If you haven’t already, the Cat Clinic is an ideal time to get this done and on Cat Clinic days, we do this at a reduced cost.
Please call us on 01629 55666 if you’d like to book an appointment 🐾
