Georgina Davidge Saddle Fitting MSFC Saddle fitter based in Derbyshire
AH and Black Country saddles
Reflocking and rebalancing I have passed my flocking qualification for the SMS.

As a rider for 30 years with experience of a multitude of equestrian disciplines, though not to a high level, my veteran and I have taken part in ODEs, Endurance and Fun Rides, Unaffiliated Dressage and Local Showing with our latest challenges of Working Equitation and Horseback Archery! I have studied Anatomy and Biomechanics with Gillian Higgins, trained with the MSFC and have passed a flocking

course run by Laurence Pearman of Cirencester Saddles and the SMS. I stock AH and Black Country saddles. I'm based in Matlock in Derbyshire but am happy to travel within an hour. I will also travel across Dorset, Hampshire, East and West Sussex and Surrey every 3-4 weeks so please call to discuss what your requirements are. During a saddle fit assessment, I will evaluate your horse's gait, complete a back exam and check your saddle for safety as well as how it suits both you and your horse. I can reflock and rebalance your saddle without needing to take it to another saddler. If you have leather repairs, I'm happy to complete these, time permitting

On Wednesday December 4th, I said goodbye to my heart and soul.

My heart horse, Yaz, headed boldly over the rainbow bridge.

Some of you may already know, and those that did have the blessing to meet his Worship....

Suffice to say I am broken without him.

Afternoon one and all, how is everyone? Suitably soggy? I certainly have been.

So dates for Hampshire and West Sussex visits for the next few months are booked in. Primarily because Yaz needs to have his holiday home booked, what can I say, the old man is spoilt!

So I have a few people in for each set of dates so far, if you want a space send me a message to get your name on the list for the trip you want and any restrictions on availability. I'll be working out a route approx 10 days before departure so if you cant make times I'll see what I can work around. Bear in mind if you have no lights then I'm stuck for when I can see you with shorter days on the horizon.

October 20th to 24th
November 11th to 14th
December 9th to 12th

If there isn't enough interest then I will cancel the trip and shift people on to the next trip, it's not cost effective to come down from the Midlands for only a handful of people.... I'm not trying to be awkward, it's just the way it is!

Morning All!

Having recovered from the cold from hell, had my car go away for repairs (and be left with an electric piece of junk) and booked Yaz's holiday home, I'm looking at being in Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire and Dorset next week the 14th to 17th of May... I have a few spaces available and I'll sort a route by Tuesday, trying to make it work for everyone....

Going forward, June I'm looking at the 18th to 21st and July 15th to 18th. August is in planning as I have a couple of courses to work round...

Call, message or Text for this week if you need a space and I'll see what we can work out for you! Looking forward to seeing folks in the sunshine!

An interesting note for the coat change...

MOULTING: Yes it's that time of year again when the horses start to shed their Winter coat. I know we all hate getting covered in hair and are relieved when they have their lovely smooth summer coat, but have you ever thought about what goes on inside their bodies during this process?

Horses that are metabolically 'well' should sail through moulting but if this process triggers other symptoms then it might be worth checking out what is going on with their metabolism and whether they need support. It is a very demanding process for the liver and kidneys as there is a large protein turnover.

If you would like to read a bit more about how to help your horse, then check out this page which has plenty of information, but if you have any specific symptoms then please contact me for some advice.

It's not just saddles that need checking to fit your horse.

Most people I speak to say that they cant find one single bridle that has all the components that fit well. Invariably the cheek pieces are too long and the browband too short pulling the headpiece onto the sensitive ears.

If you want your bridle checked, bridle fitters are around to do that for you. It will likely make a difference in your horse's way of going....

Why not “off the peg”?

Many off the peg bridles won’t completely fit your horse, or may not suit your horse:

the fit of the bridle may mean that when the buckles are done up they sit on sensitive facial nerves, or pieces of the bridle that are too tight or too lose can pull the bridle or rub the horse.

the look of a bridle may not suit your horses head due to standard styles and strap thickness.

Off the peg bridles may not be as safe, due to a lot of the bridle manufactures who machine stitch parts or the whole bridle, which often means that the stitching wears and breaks quicker. With traditional hand stitching if one stitch wears or breaks the whole line won’t undo compered to machine stitching. Most manufacturers split down the buckle turns and billet platforms as it makes them easier to stitch. I leave them full thickness which means they are far stronger.

Very valid point a few people have asked about...

Young newly backed horses that aren't as strong yet, the veterans that aren't coping with age as well as, those recovering from injuries or coming back into work potentially need a lower weight limit until they are strong enough to carry the weight safely.

Food for thought especially if you have the weighbridge due out...

Sometimes the maths doesn't work out even with every tool in our tool box, we're not trying to be awkward...
