MBM Vets Equine Our equine clinic, based in Kilmarnock, has a team of dedicated, exclusively equine clinicians. We also accept referrals from other veterinary surgeons.

We provide first opinion and emergency services to clients and their equines in Ayrshire, Greater Glasgow and Renfrewshire. For cases requiring further investigation or treatment we have in-patient stabling, with competent caring nurses and yard staff.

Routine dentistry (includes teeth rasping, picking out/flushing diastemas) where a full oral exam will be performed using the oroscope (camera to look in horses mouth), sedation, power tools if required.

If advanced dentistry procedures are required (diastema widening, fillings, extractions, ect) these will need to be booked to be performed at a later date. Estimates will be provided ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฆท

Does your horse or pony suffer from sweet itch?๐Ÿ˜ฑ

A vaccine originally developed for the treatment of ringworm, but anecdotally has been shown to prevent or decrease the symptoms of sweet itch in some horses and ponies.

Treatment with the vaccine involves a course of two injections, two weeks apart that can be topped up in the summer/autumn months with a booster. The initial course is best done before the start of the midge season, usually in February.

When our equine friends are in for lameness investigations, we employ the use of 'nerve blocking' where we inject local anaesthetic into a region of the lame leg to numb it. If the block improves the lameness, this helps us to identify the source of the lameness. Whilst we do sometimes need to use restraint methods to achieve this safely, we try to make this procedure as pleasant as possible when we can and often a tasty lickit offered by the nurses & grooms is a very welcome distraction for our four legged patients - delicious! ๐Ÿคค๐Ÿด
