🪑Sit is probably the most asked for cue
🐕 It's often used to get focus from our dogs, but they can sit and still not be focused.
🐶 Instead of asking for a sit, try asking for you focus cue instead - this could be your dogs name or a word they know like 'look' or 'watch'

Obviously I don't mean, take them out to watch the fireworks and definitely don't take them to a firework display.
But if your dog's already scared of fireworks or there's going be a big display close to you and you don't want to potentially create a fear of fireworks for your dog get them out of the area. Take them out somewhere that's going to be quiet.
Take them for a drive, they're not going hear the fireworks over the sound of the engine or the car driving along the road. Or go round to a friend or family members house. Just make sure that they're not having fireworks anywhere near them either.
Make sure you're in the car and already out of the area before the display starts and that you don't come back until it's finished. Don't attempt to put them in the car if the display has already started as you risk them bolting.
This gives your dog a nicer evening where they don't have to be terrified of fireworks and you can even buy them a burger from the local drive through.

🐶 Give your puppy the best chance to succeed
🚶♂️ Going on their first walk can be daunting for puppies, especially if they've not been on lead before and not left their house before.
🐕🦺 Practise walking on lead in your garden first
🌍 Carry them for socialising
🐕 This means they will have experienced the 2 difficult things before you combine them

➡️ If your dog is going to pull, it's going to pull.
🐕🦺 No matter what piece of equipment you've put them on - harness, collar, choke chain, prong collar (not that I support using anything other than a harness or collar) they will pull and only thing that is going to stop them is training.
🤔 People believe that just because a dog's in a harness, it will make it pull, which is wrong.
🦮 I have taught my dogs to loose lead walk, heel and pull in harnesses, but they won't pull unless they're wearing their canicross harness and they've been asked to.
🐶 Equally they will default to loose lead walking unless I've asked them to heel.
💪 Its all about the training you've done and what you're actively asking them to do
👩🏫 If you don't train them to walk nicely, they won't.
🙏 If you don't ask them to walk nicely, they won't

🕴 it's natural for your puppy to jump when they greet you because they're little and it gets them attention
🚫 if you just tell them no they won't understand because we use no in too many contexts
🪑you might get a sit because puppies quickly learn sitting gets them attention - also looking up at you puts their head up which puts their bottom on the floor
❔️before they jump if you cue them to sit or stand you can reward them for that and they will learn to great you that way
🐶 if you dont mind your dog jumping thats totally fine, mine jump up when they greet me
🐕🦺 If you don't want them jumping up visitors mange the situation, use stairgates or put them on lead and reward them for being calm

🐕🦺 Put simply pulling gets your dog what it wants.
🏞 They drag you all the way to the park where you let them off lead.
👃 They drag you to every sniff that they want to sniff.
🏆 The whole time they're pulling you continue to walk which massively reinforces the pulling.
🛑 The simplest way to stop this is to simply stop walking the second your dog's lead goes tight.
✋️ wait for them to slacken it off, they take a couple of steps toward you and then continue again.
🐶They still get to go to the park, they still get to sniff all the sniffs, they still get to walk. The only rule is that they re not allowed a pull.
🎉 If you're consistent with this, your dog will very quickly learn that a slack lead gets them what they want but a tight lead doesn't

🐶 It's really important that we offer our dogs the chance to consent or to say yes or no to being touched or anything happening to them.
😠 A lot of dogs will accept things that they don't like happening to them begrudgingly.
👌 And it can appear that they're okay with this because they don't really put up too much for a fight about it. And most people miss subtle body language signals such as looking away, yawning, lip licking etc
🤜 But if something they don't like happens to them often enough without them being able to say no, they might start escalating their behaviours to be listened to. This could mean that they will start growling or snarling or potentially leading up to a bite.
😲 This is where bites can "come out of nowhere" when the dog has been saying for a long time that it doesn't like what's happening to it.
🐕 Stroking them for a short period of time, then removing your hands and seeing what they do is the easiest way to allow your dog to consent

🐶 When you're training with your dog it's really important you can access your treats quickly and easily.
👍 You only really have a couple seconds to give them that treat after they've done the behaviour so that they understand the reward is for that behaviour.
🤏 So many treat bags are tiny and you literally can not get your hand in them and grab a treat.
🐹 There's one sold by a well known pet shop, which is as big enough to be a hamsters sleeping bag!
✅️ Bonus points if you can strap it around you or clip it to your trousers for hands-free access
❌️ Also, get rid of the plastic bag, just put your treats loose in the treat bag. Or you might find that your dog won't do anything until they've heard the rustle of the treat bag because it means theres a treat coming

🦺 The safest way to use a long line is to always attach it to a harness.
🐶 If your dog fails on a recall and run to the end of their long line. That could be a big impact, which if they're on a collar would just be taken around their neck.
🩹 With a harness, it spreads any impact over their chest, which is least likely to do them damage.
❌️ And no a harness will not make them pull

This is why I've been a bit quiet on here recently. Unfortunately everything possible went wrong with my move including the man with a van company not showing so I had to be saved by my amazing brother, sister in law and teenage nephew - who brought the muscle! 💪
luckily the dogs took it all in their stride and coped better than i did! Now jts done and the dogs are settled it's back to business as normal
Moving house is one of the most stressful things we do. Imagine how weird it is for your dogs
Suddenly, they're in a different house that smells of the previous owners, but your things are there but in boxes 🤷🏼♀️
Don't forget to change your address on your dogs: 🏡 microchips,
🐶 Id tags on their collars and
🩺 at your vets
