It's time to talk about winter care for seniors 👇

If you've got an older dog you might be wondering whether to brave the colder temperatures for a walk - but getting outside is still important for giving senior dogs the exercise and stimulation they need.

This Senior Pet Awareness Month we've got some useful tips for helping you both get the best out of your daily outing and keep your older dog active.

🐾 Dress for success - senior dogs will not have the muscle mass they once did, so some extra warmth from a well-fitting coat is a must. Opt for one that doesn’t restrict their movement.

🐾 Stay visible – as the nights draw in quickly, LED lights and reflective gear are important for keeping you both visible and safe, especially as your older dog may not be as aware or as quick to react as younger dogs.

🐾 On the lead – with snow and ice around, it can be easy for a dog to slip up, particularly if they are unsteady on their feet.

🐾 Check paws - when you get home check for cracks, redness and any bits of ice or salt that might be stuck in paws. Rinse them in warm water if needed.

🐾 Warm up at home – there’s nothing better than getting cosy after some fresh winter air. After his exercise, give your dog the chance to warm up and rest - if you have a rug by the fire, even better!

Finally, your older dog might be feeling extra stiff at this time of year too thanks to the colder temperatures. Giving some Joint Aid for Dogs daily sprinkled over their food is an easy way to help keep them active all year round.

Huge congratulations to our GWF Champions Sarah and Eric a.k.a. – they’ve only made it through to the World Agility Open in the Netherlands next year! 🎉

The FitPaws World Agility Open is an annual international event, showcasing the highest level of agility training in human/canine partnership. They will be proudly representing Northern Ireland alongside other elites in the field. 🐾

Eric’s been supplementing his daily intake with joint and muscle support from Joint Aid for Dogs for a few years now, which will stand him in good stead for what will be a challenging competition. It has been so exciting to watch him go from strength to strength - we’re all rooting for you team! 👏

If you're celebrating Halloween at home we've got some handy tips for keeping things safe and fun around your animals too.

In the meantime, eat, drink and be scaaary!! 👻

🐾 If your pet loves a good costume, don't forget to make sure its not too tight or easy to trip on! A bandana can be a great alternative for pets not so keen on a full costume.

🐾 Remember, chocolate and sugar free treats are toxic to pets, so make sure you place these out of paw's reach.

🐾 Same goes for decorations - these can be easy to choke on or knock over so having these up high is ideal, especially candles.
