Meet Sadie ๐Ÿ‘‹

Sadie is a lovely 8 year old German Shepherd Dog. Sadie had a sore left foreleg back in September with intermittent lameness.

After discussing the options in a consultation with a veterinary surgeon Sadieโ€™s owner opted to get a diagnosis to we could fully understand what was going on and how best to manage her.

Sadie was diagnosed with a few mobility related issues including hip dysplasia and osteoarthritis, lumbosacral disease with spondylosis, left shoulder tendonopathy and left digital collapse.

A treatment plan was started which included pain management, physiotherapy, weight loss and exercise modifications.

We are pleased to to report Sadie is making good progress and enjoys her visits to us. ๐Ÿ’š

Pain and mobility clinics in practice are a great way to optimise care for our osteoarthritic patients. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

It requires a team approach to integrate and successfully run, but the benefits to our patients and clients can be profound. โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน

A multimodal approach is essential and different members of the team can be involved to support the patients and make better use of time in a busy clinic environment. ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐Ÿ’š Learn how to engage your team, integrate photobiomodulation into our management plans, objectively measure responses to treatment with stance analysis, and provide additional treatment in the form of targeted intra-articular therapy with PRP.

๐Ÿ’š How to effectively integrate PBM into management plans to treat pain, improve mobility, and empower your team

๐Ÿ’š How to use simple tools to obtain objective measures to monitor treatment responses and change management plans accordingly

It is not just our canine and feline patients that can benefit from stem cell therapy.

Bernard, a 28 year old vulture has also undergone stem cell therapy in order to treat his arthritis.

His breed the Eurasian black vulture is an endangered species and Bernard is playing a vital part in producing chicks. His arthritis has become a limiting factor in producing future young.

The hope is that stem cell therapy can allow him to be pain free, mobile and back to his important job!

Meet Floyd ๐Ÿ‘‹

Floyd is a gorgeous 13 year old cocker spaniel and over the last 9 months has lost an incredible 5.1kg in weight! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿฅณ

This has been down to the hard work from Floydโ€™s owners in changing his feeding habits and following a weight loss plan to get him to this point. Floyd was originally seen by our Vet Suzy for ongoing lameness issues and was found to have a body condition score (BCS) of 9/9 and body weight 26.2kg. We ideally look for our patients to have an ideal BCS of 4 or 5/9. ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ•

65% of dogs in the UK are overweight or obese and 37% of these dogs are juvenile dogs. Adipose (fat) tissue secretes hormones that causes inflammation and this inflammation is linked to pain. Studies show that obesity is associated with a state of chronic, low-grade inflammation, a condition that predisposes pets to diseases such as osteoarthritis and diabetes mellitus. It is reported that a reduction of around 6-8% body weight in a patient who is overweight or obese can assist in decreasing lameness and the pain associated with this. โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน

Floydโ€™s owners moved him onto a formulated weight loss diet which was overseen by one of our veterinary nurses at the practice and his progress tracked carefully to ensure he was not losing weight too quickly. Over the months his weight has steadily reduced and he is now weighing in at 21.1kg and has a BCS of 6/9. Floyd is still working hard towards achieving his ideal body weight of around 20 kg but his progress has been amazing! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ‘

If you feel your pet would benefit from some weight loss or you would like more advice on this please speak to a member of the regen team.

Meet Iqhwa ๐Ÿ‘‹

Iqhwa start showing signs of lameness at only 6 months old. Her owners were quick to investigate and elbow dysplasia, an extra lumbar vertebrae, hip dysplasia, iliopsoas and shoulder tendinopathies were diagnosed.

At 7 months old, Iqhwa was treated with regenerative medicine including having her own culture stem cells and platelet rich plasma implanted into all her problem areas. Iqhwa had a course of laser treatment and hydrotherapy as part of her rehabilitation.

Iqhwa has been since living a happy, active and pain free life. Recently her owners brought he in for a review, although Iqhwa was showing no signs of discomfort her owners know her conditions require lifelong management and bring her in for annual check ups. ๐Ÿฅฐ

Andy was able to pick us on her musculoskeletal exam that she has some discomfort in her elbows and that the range of motion had reduced, reduction in shoulder muscle mass, hip pain and some iliopsoas spasm.

Although mild changes were present her diagnostics including x-rays and musculoskeletal showed no progression of her osteoarthritis or her spine!

With the return of these symptoms it indicates a good time to intervene with an additional round of regenerative medicine and prevent any deterioration.

After a short time of restricted lead exercise to allow the regenerative medicine treatment to work, Iqhwa will be back to her active self. ๐Ÿ’š
