Hello everyone!!

So, as you all know we have been struggling to recruit vets for a long time, years in fact! And as you also know we passionately believe in providing our own out of hours services for our clients and furry friends.
But due to staff shortages myself and Giles have had to cover pretty much all the on-call this year, and in all honesty, and as I hope you can appreciate, we need a rest to take care of ourselves, recharge, be healthy. And also importantly so we can continue to provide you with the high level of care we pride ourselves on.
We have therefore made the decision that the Park Vets at Glenfield will cover some weekends each month for the next few months for us. This is not a decision that has been taken lightly and a lot of thought and research has been made into finding a vets that will deliver the same level of dedication and care as we do and I must stress that this is not permanent.
I hope you will understand our reasoning. I felt it important to let you guys know what is happening and why, if you have any questions then please give the surgery a call.

important to keep your cat up to date with
regular, effective parasite treatments. This way
you can be sure to protect your cat and preserve
your bond.
Talk to your vet about how to protect your cat
against all the major feline parasites.

Parasites aren’t just uncomfortable - they can
also be dangerous.
Parasites aren’t just unpleasant for cats, they
can also cause a lot of damage, triggering
severe reactions. Certain parasites can also
transmit some nasty diseases to both your cat
and your family.
Regular preventative parasite treatment is highly
recommended!

Did you know a single pair of fleas can become
an infestation of over 25,000 in just 6-12
weeks?
Female fleas can lay an incredible 20-50 eggs
per day, and these eggs can drop off all over the
house. Getting on top of an infestation can be a
lot of work, and it’s much better to make sure
your cat is up to date with regular preventative
treatments.

What are the health risks of your cat having
worms?
The most common worms that cats pick up are
roundworms and tapeworms. Both can cause
nasty digestive symptoms for cats and can also
pose risks to human health.
Not all parasite treatments cover both
roundworms and tapeworms, so it’s important
to check that your cat’s treatment routine gives
them enough cover.
Check with your vet if you have any concerns.

All cats are different, and their lifestyle will
affect their risk of picking up parasites.
To check your pet has the right level of cover, you
can take a quick self-assessment questionnaire
and chat it through with your vet.
Your vet will then make sure your feline friend
has the right parasite treatment regime to keep
them safe and well.

Did you know fleas and ticks are a problem all
year round?
Unfortunately, because of central heating,
fleas are now a year-round problem. And while
ticks are more active in spring and autumn,
increasing temperatures have meant they’re
now around all year too.
It’s safest to make sure your beloved pet is
protected against these nasty parasites all year.

Regular parasite treatments can mean a better
relationship between cats and their owners.
The bond we have with our cats is so important,
but it can be more difficult to enjoy interactions
with our pets when we know or suspect they’re
carrying parasites.
Regular parasite treatment will give you peace
of mind, as well as protecting your cat and your
household from associated discomfort, illness
and disease.
By keeping our cats parasite-free, we will be
able to strengthen and support the precious
bond we have with our pets.

How long is a feline tapeworm?
Tapeworms inside cats can grow up to 60cm
long! You won’t see the whole tapeworm at once
though, as only tiny segments break off and
are passed out. Rather disgustingly, these little
segments can move of their own accord, and
they release lots of eggs.
Chat to your vet to make sure your cat’s
parasite treatment routine covers them against
tapeworm.

Feline parasites - which cats are at risk?
Indoor cats can still catch parasites!
Although outdoor cats are generally at higher
risk, indoor-only cats can still be affected, as
parasites can spread by “hitch-hiking” on other
pets, clothes and belongings.
This means all cats – old or young, outdoor or
indoor – are at risk of catching parasites…

Did you know 95% of a flea infestation is in the
home?
These little parasites lay loads of eggs, which
fall off into the environment. Here, they hatch
into larvae which like to burrow deep into
carpets.
Larvae then turn into resilient little pupae
which can remain dormant for several months!
To avoid a flea infestation in your house, make
sure you keep your cat up to date with regular
preventative parasite treatment.

How can you tell if your cat has parasites?
Sometimes you can’t!
Although it can be possible to identify parasites
in your cat’s fur or faeces, sometimes there
won’t be any signs that your cat has parasites.
That’s why regular parasite treatment is so
important, to prevent hidden infestations from
building up and getting out of control!
