What is that?! 👀

Believe it or not, this spiky little climber is a prehensile-tailed porcupine, found high in the rainforests of South America. 🌳

With over 20,000 quills for protection and a tail that acts like a fifth limb, it’s one of nature’s weirdest acrobats!

The baby you see here is part of a major breeding success, the first raised in the UK in over 15 years. 💚

😍 Exciting News from Our Lemurs! 🤎

We’re thrilled to welcome Lily, a beautiful red-fronted lemur, to her new home here at the zoo! ❤️
Lily joined us from Exotic Zoo in Telford as part of an important breeding partnership between our zoos.

In return, one of our males has travelled to Exotic Zoo to be paired with a female there, a wonderful exchange that helps support the species.

We’re delighted to share that Lily has already met her new mate, and the two became friends instantly! 💕 It’s a fantastic start, and we’re hopeful that their bond will blossom, hopefully leading to the patter of tiny lemur feet in the future. 👶🐾

Our Story

Opening in August 2015, the HCC offers visitors the chance to see some of the world’s most endangered and least understood species! We work as part of a large network of zoos, safari parks and wildlife centres around the world to ensure the survival of the species we care for.

We strongly believe that getting people closer to wildlife in a safe, fun, yet educational manner is the best way to inspire people about wild animals, their habitats and their conservation.

We’re also expanding and looking forward to welcoming a range of new animals and species to the centre in the coming months as well as brand new visitor facilities.
