For the attention of all our dog walking clients… due to the heat this week, walks may be shorter than normal and may be earlier than normal or in some circumstances depending on breed pop ins may be done instead.

As I am sure you agree the welfare of all your dogs is our upmost priority and we will go on the weakest one in the group.

We normally give your dogs much longer than the hour on occasions but we have to be mindul of your dog’s health and wellbeing.

What are our warm weather protocols ?

As a general rule, walking your dog at any temperature below 20C is ideal. Most dogs are comfortable at temperatures between 15-25°C, but this is very much dependent on their age, breed, size, coat length, amount of exercise they're engaging in, health and fitness.

The hotter the temperature, the higher the risk to your dog.
Some dogs are at higher risk from the heat than others, so we are extra careful with:
Overweight dogs
Brachycephalic breeds, such as French Bulldogs and Pugs
Older dogs over 8-years-old
Younger dogs under 6-months-old
These dogs may have shorter walks or pop ins when the temp is over 20 degrees.

No dog will be walked over 25 degrees at all.

Things we have planned for

Cooling jackets
Fresh water in the vans
Fans in the vans as well as air con
Onlead walks if temp over 20
No ball play over 20 degrees
Walks in shady areas rather than open fields
Walks on grass rather than concrete paths
Walks with streams or lakes whenever possible so they can cool down.
Cutting walks short if neccessary.

Hope you all understand

With the weather expected to exceed over 20 degrees both today and for the following week, I have wrote a blog on my website regarding signs of Hyperthermia and what to do if you see the signs.

As the summer sun finally graces us with its presence, it's essential to remember that our furry friends can struggle with the heat more than we do. Dogs don't sweat like humans and can easily become overheated. Here's a

Who are we ?

Paws 4 A Break has been established since 2015 and as quickly grow from strength to strength. Amanda, Martyn and the team are passionate about all animals and the welfare and comfort of all animals in their care is paramount in importance.

Amanda Jane Burton came up with the idea after hearing that people were getting more reluctant to leaving their dogs in traditional kennels. They are fully licensed, insured, canine First aiders and DBS checked and are hoping to expand their business further by handpicking local carers to care for more dogs whilst their owners are away. Paws 4 A Break have many repeat bookings and that is a testimony to their client’s faith in them to take great care of their pooches and enable them to have a worry-free holiday. Infact early booking is now essential to guarantee a place for your pooches. All dogs and clients receive a free consultation at their own home before the stay and are registered on to the service. They also recognised the need for dog walking and other pet care services in their local areas.

Not all cats like to leave their home and go to a cattery so Paws 4 A Break started a cat visit service where they can take of your cat in your own home with as many visits as you choose. Their services offer you peace of mind that your pets will be well cared for, giving you the assurance that both you and your dog/cat both deserve.
